Humodour Posted April 21, 2010 Posted April 21, 2010 Predicted customer response: Well, if you say so. Has Steve Jobs just given the world the best argument for ditching the iPhone and grabbing an Android handset? Over on the Technically Incorrect blog today you can read about an email exchange between Apple CEO Steve Jobs and a customer concerned with Apple's stance as moral policeman over its decision to block the work of political satirist and cartoonist Mark Fiore, and other interconnected matters including porn. Jobs responded by acknowledging the decision to block Fiore's app was a mistake, but went on to confirm this customer's concerns. "We do believe we have a moral responsibility to keep porn off the iPhone. Folks who want porn can buy and [sic] Android phone." Why, you might ask, does Jobs reference Android specifically? At a guess he is referring to a new Android app store for adults called MiKandi. The store, which apparently sells pornographic content, is intended for a range of adult content, including Japanese Hentai cartoons, video games and apps like drinking games. Maybe adult content isn't your cup of tea, but do you think you should have the right to your phone in whatever way you see fit? http://www.cnet.com.au/apple-if-you-want-p...d-339302586.htm
mkreku Posted April 21, 2010 Posted April 21, 2010 Gotta love Apple! I wouldn't touch the Iphone with a ten foot pole. I am, however, seriously considering getting an Android phone. Porn only solidifies that decision. Well, not porn in and of itself, but the way Google isn't trying to decide for me what content I should have access to in my daily life. Orogun01 Posted April 21, 2010 Posted April 21, 2010 You know, usually when it comes to censorship i'm adamant to fight it but in this case I have to agree with Apple. People have always found a way to hack the Iphone and run programs on it; namely porn. But I really don't want to go to the App store and find smut. Plus is their product they have a right to monopolize it's content. I'd say the answer to that question is kind of like the answer to "who's the sucker in this poker game?"* *If you can't tell, it's you.
Deadly_Nightshade Posted April 21, 2010 Posted April 21, 2010 Meh, Apple allows the Sports Illustrated and PlayBoy applications so I guess what they really mean is "we're against porn unless you can pay us enough." "Geez. It's like we lost some sort of bet and ended up saddled with a bunch of terrible new posters on this forum." -Hurlshot
Humodour Posted April 21, 2010 Author Posted April 21, 2010 You know, usually when it comes to censorship i'm adamant to fight it but in this case I have to agree with Apple. People have always found a way to hack the Iphone and run programs on it; namely porn. But I really don't want to go to the App store and find smut. Plus is their product they have a right to monopolize it's content. So what you're saying is, Apple should add an adult content filter, such that adult content isn't displayed by default? Honestly Orugun01, it's not hard to satisfy everyone without being inconsistent authoritarian ****.
mkreku Posted April 21, 2010 Posted April 21, 2010 But I really don't want to go to the App store and find smut. So because you don't want to be able to find smut, noone else should have access to it? Anything else you don't like you want to mention right now? I mean, so we know what we should censor out of our lives because you don't like it. All six billion of us. Swedes, go to: Spel2, for the latest game reviews in swedish!
Hurlshort Posted April 21, 2010 Posted April 21, 2010 I'd imagine you can still go on adult sites and stream video with your 3G connection, so it's not all that much of a censorship.
Gorth Posted April 21, 2010 Posted April 21, 2010 It has probably more to do with corporate image than any sense of moral obligation. It only takes one rotten Apple after all... Apple is probably trying to position itself the same way Disney does with cartoons. Safe for the entire family or whatever. I still think my ancient Nokia is way bloated with features because it has a camera built in (which I've never used). “He who joyfully marches to music in rank and file has already earned my contempt. Aram Posted April 21, 2010 Posted April 21, 2010 Meh, Apple allows the Sports Illustrated and PlayBoy applications so I guess what they really mean is "we're against porn unless you can pay us enough." If you think those are porn I got an innernet you need to take a look at.
Deadly_Nightshade Posted April 21, 2010 Posted April 21, 2010 If you think those are porn I got an innernet you need to take a look at. You're saying that those are not soft-core porn? If so, what are they? "Geez. It's like we lost some sort of bet and ended up saddled with a bunch of terrible new posters on this forum." -Hurlshot

Deadly_Nightshade Posted April 21, 2010 Posted April 21, 2010 Pictures of sexy dames. I'd let a five year old look at a Playboy for christ sake. I thought that "pictures of sexy dames" was what soft-core was -I'll admit that I don't know the exact definitions- although I will agree that there's nothing in PlayBoy that would scar a fire-year-old. mkreku Posted April 21, 2010 Posted April 21, 2010 We could give it a try.. Post a picture of one of these "sexy dames" on here. If it's deleted and you're warned, it's soft porn. If not, it's not. Swedes, go to: Spel2, for the latest game reviews in swedish!
Orogun01 Posted April 21, 2010 Posted April 21, 2010 Quite frankly if someone needs to have porn on their phone they should find help; either psychiatric or treatments for sore elbows. So Apple is doing a good thing really. I'd say the answer to that question is kind of like the answer to "who's the sucker in this poker game?"* *If you can't tell, it's you.
Guest The Architect Posted April 21, 2010 Posted April 21, 2010 ^ Oh yeah? If, for example, you had to stand around waiting for something or someone at the shops for a long time, or got stuck in busy traffic, what would you rather be doing

Gorth Posted April 21, 2010 Posted April 21, 2010 Maybe there is a business opportunity there, selling brown paperbags for iPhones? “He who joyfully marches to music in rank and file has already earned my contempt. Walsingham Posted April 21, 2010 Posted April 21, 2010 Quite frankly if someone needs to have porn on their phone they should find help; either psychiatric or treatments for sore elbows. So Apple is doing a good thing really. You are quite mad. Porn is as old as stone carving, FFS. You can get porn in the local newsagents here in the UK. It being on offer in your phone is a given in my opinion. It's ADULT content. The clue is in the name. "It wasn't lies. It was just... bull****"." -Elwood Blues tarna's dead; processing... complete. Disappointed by Universe. Amentep Posted April 21, 2010 Posted April 21, 2010 All it takes (here at least) is for one dude to be streaming porn on his phone and one over-reactive parent thinking their little Timmy or Sally can see it to cause a lawsuit. I cannot - yet I must. How do you calculate that? At what point on the graph do "must" and "cannot" meet? Yet I must - but I cannot! ~ Ro-Man
Orogun01 Posted April 21, 2010 Posted April 21, 2010 Didn't know we had so many supporters of porn here Okay, the problem is not with having porn on your phone is that you usually take your phone with you to public places. I don't care what people do on the privacy of their homes but I don't want to dine next to a guy that's watching nasty schoolgirls spank each others buttocks. Sure there are public places that are away from the public's eye, but if someone needs to get up and interrupt their business because they need to look to porn in their phones on the bathroom I would say that's an addiction. Plus is a bad idea; you know that phone is going to pass through hands. Do you really want people asking, what does this app do? and then you have to tell them about the birds and bees and why some birds like to be gagged and tied. I'd say the answer to that question is kind of like the answer to "who's the sucker in this poker game?"* *If you can't tell, it's you.
Amentep Posted April 21, 2010 Posted April 21, 2010 Didn't know we had so many supporters of porn here Their numbers are in the same general area as athletic supporters, I hear. A friend of mine once brought his brother's PSP to school because his was broken, and he proceeded to go through the files. Among them was a file labeled "Ice Age 2", which had just premiered that week. Turns out, it wasn't Ice Age 2. It wasn't Ice Age 2 at all.
