Morgoth Posted February 13, 2010 Posted February 13, 2010 I get the feeling Obsidian will be the same talkative about this game as AP or NV. Meaning, "we can't talk about it, wait for the publisher's announcement. Sorry". Rain makes everything better.
Maria Caliban Posted February 13, 2010 Posted February 13, 2010 So... What is this? A giant clusterf**k in the making. "When is this out. I can't wait to play it so I can talk at length about how bad it is." - Gorgon.
Sid Nitzerglobin Posted February 13, 2010 Posted February 13, 2010 Never read these, not heard much about them that really interested me. Does sound like a kinda weird arrangement to me. I'll root for it to work out well for Obsidian though.
Kaftan Barlast Posted February 13, 2010 Posted February 13, 2010 Not more fantasy garbage! I thought we had seen the last of this crap with DA. ...my sympathies to the team who has to work on this game DISCLAIMER: Do not take what I write seriously unless it is clearly and in no uncertain terms, declared by me to be meant in a serious and non-humoristic manner. If there is no clear indication, asume the post is written in jest. This notification is meant very seriously and its purpouse is to avoid misunderstandings and the consequences thereof. Furthermore; I can not be held accountable for anything I write on these forums since the idea of taking serious responsability for my unserious actions, is an oxymoron in itself. Important: as the following sentence contains many naughty words I warn you not to read it under any circumstances; botty, knickers, wee, erogenous zone, psychiatrist, clitoris, stockings, bosom, poetry reading, dentist, fellatio and the department of agriculture. Purkake Posted February 13, 2010 Posted February 13, 2010 (edited) Not more fantasy garbage! I thought we had seen the last of this crap with DA. ...my sympathies to the team who has to work on this game If it starts of with Trollocs burning down my village, I'll just uninstall it. That said, you can pretty much do anything with fantasy, dismissing it because of that is silly. There aren't even any elves or dwarves or dragons(at least not the flying fire-breathing kind) in WoT Edited February 13, 2010 by Purkake
Humodour Posted February 13, 2010 Posted February 13, 2010 This doesn't seem terribly interesting, but best of luck to the Obsidian team that has to work on it.
HoonDing Posted February 13, 2010 Posted February 13, 2010 There aren't even any elves or dwarves or dragons(at least not the flying fire-breathing kind) in WoT Aelfinn/Eelfinn The ending of the words is ALMSIVI.
Purkake Posted February 13, 2010 Posted February 13, 2010 (edited) ...who are neither elves, dwarves nor dragons. (or very prominent in the story for that matter) There are quite a few supernatural/weird creatures, but most of them aren't classical Tolkin style things, except for Trollocs and maybe Ogier. Edited February 13, 2010 by Purkake
Junai Posted February 13, 2010 Posted February 13, 2010 I hope it'll be a long game, with lots of classes, spells, skills, open areas to explore, no forced companions, and.. uhm.. horses? Climbing? Swimming?.. k. Looking forward to it. Release date 2015? :D J.
Darth InSidious Posted February 13, 2010 Posted February 13, 2010 So... What is this? A giant clusterf**k in the making. This. OE don't exactly have the best record with bugs, and couple that with a third party's (most probably crap) writing, it looks set to be an all-round disaster. This particularly rapid, unintelligible patter isn't generally heard, and if it is, it doesn't matter.
Slowtrain Posted February 13, 2010 Posted February 13, 2010 Quite to the contrary, Red Eagle Games will have an internal development team of its own. However, rather than staffing up a 200 person studio from scratch, we decided some time ago that for our first games it would be far more prudent to hire a small in-house team (e.g. positions such as Art Director, Game Designer, Story Writer, Software Architect, Quality Assurance Director, etc.) and rely on a third party developer to provide the majority of developers and their associated overhead and infrastructure. In this way, we will be providing technical and creative direction to our external developer Unless this quote (from the link in the OP) is incorrect or has a different meaning than I am seeing, this is not going to be an "Obsidian game". This is going to be a "Red Eagle Games game" with technical support from Obsidian so that Red Eagle doesn't have to front the capital for a huge staff and tech infrastructure. I mean, I hope it works out well for Obsidian and gets them some cash and work, but it's just another video fantasy game without anything in particular to recommend it unless you happen to be a fan of the WoT stuff. Notice how I can belittle your beliefs without calling you names. It's a useful skill to have particularly where you aren't allowed to call people names. It's a mistake to get too drawn in/worked up. I mean it's not life or death, it's just two guys posting their thoughts on a message board. If it were personal or face to face all the usual restraints would be in place, and we would never have reached this place in the first place. Try to remember that.
Hurlshort Posted February 13, 2010 Posted February 13, 2010 Yeah, I mentioned that earlier Slowtrain, but no one listens to me.
Slowtrain Posted February 13, 2010 Posted February 13, 2010 Yeah, I mentioned that earlier Slowtrain, but no one listens to me. I listen to you, Hurlie. Though I think you are way too generous when it comes to evaluating games sometimes, but I do listen (or read as the case may be). Notice how I can belittle your beliefs without calling you names. Raithe Posted February 13, 2010 Posted February 13, 2010 There's just too little data about it to go one way or another... So we just clamour for more info and spin wild theories and speculation on limited knowledge.. But hey, that's what forums are for, yes? "Cuius testiculos habeas, habeas cardia et cerebellum."
Syraxis Posted February 13, 2010 Posted February 13, 2010 Is this that game they're developing on Onyx? Either way, I'm not really interested in this. Best of luck during the development process Obsidian!
Sannom Posted February 13, 2010 Posted February 13, 2010 Is this that game they're developing on Onyx? I was thinking "yes", but the more I think about it, the more I think "no". The game will probably use the Onyx Engine, but I don't think it's the one Feargus and George are working on!

Rain makes everything better.
Hurlshort Posted February 13, 2010 Posted February 13, 2010 Except according to the press release they aren't developing the WoT game.
Pidesco Posted February 13, 2010 Posted February 13, 2010 They are developing it in the sense that they are committing resources to its production. "My hovercraft is full of eels!" - Hungarian tourist I am Dan Quayle of the Romans. I want to tattoo a map of the Netherlands on my nether lands. Heja Sverige!! Everyone should cuffawkle more. The wrench is your friend.
Hurlshort Posted February 13, 2010 Posted February 13, 2010 They are developing it in the sense that they are committing resources to its production. We have no real clue how many resource they are devoting to it. So the point I'm making is this could have a minimal impact on the games they are developing in studio. Again, it sounds like a consulting job, which can mean a lot of different things but probably is not a full development team.
RPGmasterBoo Posted February 13, 2010 Posted February 13, 2010 So essentially they're not making a WoT game? Imperium Thought for the Day: Even a man who has nothing can still offer his life
Morgoth Posted February 13, 2010 Posted February 13, 2010 We need the almighty Ferg to clarify that for us. Rain makes everything better.
Gromnir Posted February 13, 2010 Posted February 13, 2010 We need the almighty Ferg to clarify that for us. why would he? he managed to find a gig for his boys that would get obsidian paid. am doubting he feels much need to clarify, and as obsidian ain't the publisher or even the named developer o' this wot game, is probably not in his best interest to say... anything. HA! Good Fun! "If there be time to expose through discussion the falsehood and fallacies, to avert the evil by the processes of education, the remedy to be applied is more speech, not enforced silence."Justice Louis Brandeis, Concurring, Whitney v. Sannom Posted February 14, 2010 Posted February 14, 2010 Does someone remember what was Feargus' exact title on that fantasy RPG project they teased us with? I can't remember it...
