Vilhelm Posted July 22, 2009 Posted July 22, 2009 http://www.variety.com/article/VR111800629...yid=13&cs=1 Sam Raimi has signed on to direct "Warcraft," the live-action film adaptation of the fantasy videogame franchise "World of Warcraft." Legendary Pictures and vidgame publisher Blizzard Entertainment are mounting the film, and Warner Bros. will co-finance and distribute. The team boasts an impressive pedigree: In addition to the director of "Spider-Man," the partners have added "The Dark Knight" producer Charles Roven to the creative mix. The plan is for Raimi to supervise development of "Warcraft" and shoot the picture after he completes work on "Spider-Man 4," which gets under way early next year for Columbia Pictures. Not exactly the director I was expecting, but good news nevertheless. Chris Metzen will co-produce the movie, maybe he'll have the rest of the producers on a leash as they yell "less yappering, more swordfighting!" and "bigger monsters!"

Blarghagh Posted July 22, 2009 Posted July 22, 2009 I guess it might become something interesting after all, then.
H Posted July 22, 2009 Posted July 22, 2009 World of Warcraft is a franchise of its own already? Looking forward to a movie based on the Fallout 3 franchise.
Maria Caliban Posted July 22, 2009 Posted July 22, 2009 Neat. "When is this out. I can't wait to play it so I can talk at length about how bad it is." - Gorgon.
Morgoth Posted July 22, 2009 Posted July 22, 2009 If Blizzard folks is involved in the production then there's potential it won't completely suck. Rain makes everything better.
Malcador Posted July 22, 2009 Posted July 22, 2009 Forgot this was being made, I'll probably get it on DVD. Why has elegance found so little following? Elegance has the disadvantage that hard work is needed to achieve it and a good education to appreciate it. - Edsger Wybe Dijkstra
GreasyDogMeat Posted July 22, 2009 Posted July 22, 2009 Why the hell are they doing a live action film when their cgi is pretty much the tops!? I think Blizzard should just stop making games and just make CGI movies.
Morgoth Posted July 22, 2009 Posted July 22, 2009 Why the hell are they doing a live action film when their cgi is pretty much the tops!? I think Blizzard should just stop making games and just make CGI movies. I don't know about you, but I still want Blizzard making games. Rain makes everything better.
WILL THE ALMIGHTY Posted July 22, 2009 Posted July 22, 2009 The costumes are going to be hilarious. "Alright, I've been thinking. When life gives you lemons, don't make lemonade - make life take the lemons back! Get mad! I don't want your damn lemons, what am I supposed to do with these? Demand to see life's manager. Make life rue the day it thought it could give Cave Johnson lemons. Do you know who I am? I'm the man who's gonna burn your house down! With the lemons. I'm going to to get my engineers to invent a combustible lemon that burns your house down!"
Morgoth Posted July 22, 2009 Posted July 22, 2009 Orcs, Elves, Minotaurs...this will be one hell of a nerdy fap-fest. Rain makes everything better.
WILL THE ALMIGHTY Posted July 22, 2009 Posted July 22, 2009 Screw the orcs and elves, I just want to see what they'll do about the shoulderpad problem. "Alright, I've been thinking. When life gives you lemons, don't make lemonade - make life take the lemons back! Get mad! I don't want your damn lemons, what am I supposed to do with these? Demand to see life's manager. Calax Posted July 22, 2009 Posted July 22, 2009 My guess is that they're gonna retell the story of how the orcs got to Azeroth in the first place. Given that most people who play WoW don't know exactly how it happened because they haven't played Warcraft 1. Victor of the 5 year fan fic competition! Kevin Butler will awesome your face off.
Maria Caliban Posted July 22, 2009 Posted July 22, 2009 I bet they crashed their spaceship into the planet after the dwarves shot them down. AmIright? The fans will watch the movie regardless of what it is. The premise of the movie will be something appealing to someone who's never played the Warcraft or World of Warcraft games. "When is this out. I can't wait to play it so I can talk at length about how bad it is." - Gorgon.
Niten_Ryu Posted July 22, 2009 Posted July 22, 2009 Seem to have a high production values but at some point even World of Warcraft will start to lose the momentum and it might happen around the time when movie is ready. At that point movie would have to be "Lord of the Rings" quality and I just don't think Warcraft in it's campy setting can offer that. Then again, Spiderman is ultimate campy hero and Sam Raimi made that work. Guy also made Evil Dead... hmm... I dont think they could have chosen the better director, no matter if movie works or not Let's play Alpha Protocol My misadventures on youtube.
kirottu Posted July 22, 2009 Posted July 22, 2009 film of warcraft is balls Ah, the golden rule 34. I bet Sam Raimi could direct totally awesome pr0n. This post is not to be enjoyed, discussed, or referenced on company time.
Hurlshort Posted July 22, 2009 Posted July 22, 2009 That's interesting. It doesn't necessarily mean the movie will be good, but it does mean that it will be wonderfully campy.
LadyCrimson Posted July 22, 2009 Posted July 22, 2009 I hereby request ... no, I demand ... that Bruce Campbell makes a cameo as Leroy Jenkins. “Things are as they are. Shryke Posted July 22, 2009 Posted July 22, 2009 why live action? blizzard's cgi cutscenes in-game are pretty badass when your mind works against you - fight back with substance abuse!
theslug Posted July 23, 2009 Posted July 23, 2009 I hereby request ... no, I demand ... that Bruce Campbell makes a cameo as Leroy Jenkins. leroy jenkins is black There was a time when I questioned the ability for the schizoid to ever experience genuine happiness, at the very least for a prolonged segment of time. I am no closer to finding the answer, however, it has become apparent that contentment is certainly a realizable goal. I find these results to be adequate, if not pleasing. Unfortunately, connection is another subject entirely. When one has sufficiently examined the mind and their emotional constructs, connection can be easily imitated. More data must be gleaned and further collated before a sufficient judgment can be reached.

LadyCrimson Posted July 23, 2009 Posted July 23, 2009 I hereby request ... no, I demand ... that Bruce Campbell makes a cameo as Leroy Jenkins. leroy jenkins is black Make up sticks. Creative license, too. Not to mention, while the musician Leroy Jenkins was indeed a black man, Ben Schultz, the face/voice behind WoW's Leeroy (yeah I mistyped it earlier), is most definitely not. Neither is the Leeroy on the WoW game trading card. I think Ben's original chr. had dark skin tones, but it's a game with green, purple, and blue skinned folk running around in silly outfits so who cares. He could be rainbow colored. Casting Bruce is still perfect. “Things are as they are.
