Gonna have to decide on my masters topic soon. I want to do something with a hideous and unique new genre of TV in Korea, but gonna be sort of hard to research it from New Zealand. It's like a crazy blend of western reality TV, traditional Asian 'game shows' and hyper-internetised celebrity culture. Plus a fetishism for subtitles and excessive editing. Instead of being a hard rock station, it is now a 90's station. 90's station... now I really feel old when they put up a station that plays music that I grew up to (and MC Hammer with Alan's favorite) Victor of the 5 year fan fic competition! Considering releasing my own single player module as a project when I'm off from work to help counter summer boredom until vacation. Most my friends moved away out of state FFFFFFUUUUU, others are just losers who don't work or go to school. One of my "friends" tried to get me to join, went to one meeting, and I thank the almighty cat lord that I didn't stay. It just does something to a child's brain, enforcing teamwork and friendship and responsibility in a safe and sheltered environment that makes them weak and distorts their mind to reality. These types of things your kid obviously needs to learn but they need to be introduced erratically, offer some sort of jeopardy, and for god sakes it needs to demoralize and strip them of any self esteem they have before it's too late. They need to get used to life taking a dump on them or else they are going to think life's all fairy tails and squirrels when in fact life is just a series of depressing and painful events with scattered moments of near contentment when your feeding your fix of online pornography. There was a time when I questioned the ability for the schizoid to ever experience genuine happiness, at the very least for a prolonged segment of time. I am no closer to finding the answer, however, it has become apparent that contentment is certainly a realizable goal. I find these results to be adequate, if not pleasing. Unfortunately, connection is another subject entirely. When one has sufficiently examined the mind and their emotional constructs, connection can be easily imitated. taks Posted June 26, 2009 Share Posted June 26, 2009 Fair warning Taks because I like you and think your a cool cat but every single person I've known since elementary school that had joined the scouts ended up not being awesome. um, thanks for the kind words, but i was a cub scout, webelo, and boy scout. i quit not long after becoming a boy scout. interestingly, i can no longer even volunteer since i cannot claim reverence to a higher power as is required of members and adult volunteers. john doesn't know what that means, so he gets to ride it out till he understands. for the most part, it is a social club for kids. most of john's kindergarten friends are going to be in his pack, and he does not otherwise have any in our neighborhood (there are a few his age, but for various reasons, he doesn't associate with them). he is good friends with the two kids in the family we normally camp/ski with (one is 17, his babysitter, and the other is 9), but, obviously, they are older and he needs kids his age. in general, the scouts like to camp. that's our summer gig. not sure if they ski in the winter. that's our winter gig. john will be doing double blacks within two seasons and he is learning all the outdoor stuff from our busy summer camping schedule, too. i'm guessing he'll tire of the scouts at some point and stop attending just as i did 30 years ago. taks comrade taks... just because.
