No thread for Dollhouse? Shame on you!

So has anyone seen it? Was it good? Firefly good?

The premise reminds me a little of Planescape: Torment. The main character is "imprinted" with a new personality in every episode, but gradually begins to remember some of her past as well.

First episode felt like Alias.

Meaning what? Good? Bad? Hot red-headed chick who wears wigs and kicks everyone's ass?

Meaning the series seems to be made in a way so you can continue it as long as you have watchers. "Memory wipe" thingy at it

This post is not to be enjoyed, discussed, or referenced on company time.

I have decided not to watch it. After the whole Firefly incident I don't trust Fox to keep this show around. Why get interested in a series that is most likely to die before its first season ends?

Alias is laughably bad. You people have no taste, and no, one hot chick changing into various costumes and wiggling through air vents does not make up for it.

The plot and the characters are so out there that all the dialogue becomes virtually pointless.

I dated a girl here in boston whos roommate went to highschool with eliza (eliza was a few grades higher) and knew her. She told me she was pretty cool to her and most other ppl but she had a rep of being the school s*ut. Apparently she made her way around the high school guys at the time.

What does that have to do with with whether she's a good or bad actress?

Anyways, I found the show to be okayish. Definitely not great. Nowhere near the level of Buffy or Angel. I haven't see Firefly to comment yet on that. Still, only episode 1 so lots of time to give it a chance. The premise seems convoluted though for the sake of it.

Dushku is a solid actress who sometimes does great things, and other times not so good.

Rumours, myths and innuendo - right Volourn?. You're friend is probably jealous of Eliza Dushku's success.

I think he's implying she "works hard" to get her roles.

I've never seen her being even a barely competent actress. She always acts as if she's playing the same character, and even that, she doesn't do particularly well. Considering Dollhouse seems to hinge on a character who is supposed to change her personality constantly, this really doesn't bode well for the show. I didn't believe for a second that she was some sort of miracle hostage negotiator.

She did a pretty good job on Buffy and Angel. Not a big fan of hers, otherwise.

Sio, in order to avoid another Firefly your plan is to... NOT watch the show.

I sorta kinda watched the first episode on the intarwebs, and it's probably not my demographic. Basically it's an anime with American actors, and without the animation to make up for the general childish air of the thing. Much like Alias it's mostly about the protagonist slipping in and out of different costumes leaving plenty of time to dwell on her physiology, until episode 3 or 4 where she will escape from the secret facility a la Nikita, to go underground while the agents hunt her and she gets into various adventures while trying to recover her memory a la Bourne Identity. Maybe starting a detective agency or the like as well.

I feel like I've watched the first season already.

I hope this one sticks around longer so it'll actually air somewhere else. We never got Firefly, I had to import it on DVD to even have it now.

I'm going to have to download the first few episodes to see if it's any good because I'm conflicted. I absolutely dug Firefly and Serenity, but I can't stand Buffy and Angel.

I finally saw it. It's wasn't bad and FOX made Joss redo the pilot IIRC.

I think that they the kidnapping story and the negotiator persona were too ordinary or safe. They should have started with something crazy/funny, that's what Whedon does best.

I couldn't judge actors' acting if my life depended on it(unless they are so horrible that they wouldn't get paid for it) so I can't really comment on anyone's acting. Eliza looks a little weird, but I'll probably get used to it. They were trying to whore her out a little with the shortest dress ever™ and futuristic shower scene IMO.

I liked the scarred-faced-lady and the Dollhouse boss-woman played by Olivia Williams. The police/FBI dude didn't do much, though and the naked hairy dude in the end was just weird(would have been nice to get some explanation about him in this episode)

I think it has potential, Echo needs cooler and more diverse personas and less cliche zomg I was abused as a child side-effects. How about a male persona or something crazy like that. From what I heard the first 3-4 episodes were supposed to be pretty much stand-alone. Then it gets more serialized and Joss was pimping episode 6 as the best so far. Also the first season will have Felica Day at some point, yay!

I honestly don't see how it is anything like an anime, maybe you could explain that. I also don't see her escaping the facility or regaining more than fragments of her memory this season, but I guess we'll see.

Well, they are not schoolgirls, other than that it seems pretty similar to, for instance, Gunslinger girl. J poppy music, a nefarious organization keeps a stable of different specialists, each with handlers that they misguidedly trust. etc.

I'm not too familiar with anime, but I don't think this is where Joss Whedon is going with this.

I forgot, gunslinger girl also has the memory wipe thing, although it's a side effect of the schoolgirl's mental conditioning to follow orders.

Some of that and some it was a mostly tossing some trivia out there since the topic came up. I personally think shes a average, at best actress (A side from BtVS I cringe at her roles/acting), and find it hard to believe she has gotten the parts she has based on ability. Her looks, quickie on the casting couch I feel more probable.

But school sl*t or not I wouldn't turn her down if the encounter presented itself, heh. Side note, I have no reason to believe the roomie would make such up, in fact she generally spoke kindly of her but she did state she got around from what she saw/heard. Take it as you will.

I recently got Firefly and Serenity on DVD. The show was classic. I cried when it all ended. It doesn't look like Dollhouse will make me cry when it ends. It might be good, but so far it's nothing I haven't seen. I won't give up yet, because sometimes it takes a few episodes for things to get going, and Joss deserves a few chances, since he made Firefly.

I can't say the pilot really grabbed me. Seemed kinda bland and uninteresting for the most part.

Hmm, for some reason people are now singing praises to the second episode.

I liked the flashbacks, but I don't think this was any better than the pilot.

The main story went from boring rent-a-prostitute to a WTF why is he hunting her? The actor who played the bow guy was just horrible. Alpha the knife-villain left me totally cold, it seems that he wants to make Echo remember her old personality(maybe he was her boyfriend/father/stalker). The best way to accomplish this was to send a dude with a bow after her and drug her with some memory-inducing stuff. Also he cut everyone up really well with his knife... great. Helo, the supercop didn't do anything but stick his nose into everything, annoy as many people as possible and proclaim that the Dollhouse is real.

I am far more interested in secondary characters like the doctor with the scarred face, Boyd the handler, the cute lasagna lady and Oliva Williams the Dollhouse manager.
