Deadly_Nightshade Posted May 1, 2009 Posted May 1, 2009 So in 10 years if you still want to play it you buy it from whatever the equivalent of Steam will be for $1.50 Oh yes, because I'll be willing to spend my money twenty-times for the same thing. Well... In some rare cases I might do this -I have, in fact, bought Fallout and Fallout II multiple times- but the majority of games are not worth the added price. Saying since I might not be able to play it in 10 years so I won't play it at all doesn't make much sense. It does if you do not want to support the "rental" system. "Geez. It's like we lost some sort of bet and ended up saddled with a bunch of terrible new posters on this forum." -Hurlshot
taks Posted May 1, 2009 Posted May 1, 2009 And FO sold MILLIONS of copies. actually, no, at least, every number i've heard has put it in the few hundred k ballpark. millions play it, however, as it is heavily pirated, particularly in eastern europe. anyway, that's not why i'm posting. i got WoW. started it last night. i haven't really done anything yet, other than whack some dwarf on the street and pick up a fallen paladin (he's a fighter now) that drinks too much (my kinda guy, another beer lunch for me today). well, i went searching for an inn since there doesn't seem to be one in the first area. the only comments i have so far are a) the writing, what little i've seen, seems fairly high quality, and b) the few VOs that they did are done well. taks comrade taks... just because.

Magister Lajciak Posted May 1, 2009 Posted May 1, 2009 Saying since I might not be able to play it in 10 years so I won't play it at all doesn't make much sense. It does if you do not want to support the "rental" system. Exactly - the only way not to support the "rental" system is not to participate in it. Also, it is hardly as if Mysteries of Westgate is being picked on - I apply this policy of non-purchasing automatically to any and all games with online activation and/or limited installs. Even if a game like Dragon Age, probably my most anticipated game coming out in the near future, has online activation, I won't buy it regardless of how much I am looking forward to it at the moment. Heck, I wouldn't even buy KOTOR 3, Diablo III or Starcraft II if these had online activation and there are probably no other games I would like to see more than those. It is a blanket policy - no exceptions - no matter how much I was looking forward to the product before its online activation anti-feature was announced, I will simply not participate in the rental model.

Bos_hybrid Posted May 2, 2009 Posted May 2, 2009 How about we leave DRM discussion in the DRM thread? Personally I was very impressed with MoW, I wasn't too sure about it after playing the Bio modules, but Ossian did a great job with MoW. To tell you the truth I enjoyed it more then SOZ and recommend it to anyone that has enjoyed NWN games. Hopefully we will get a few more adventure packs in the future.

Having my PC fast and clean all the time is no loss for me... I was commenting more on MoW. Clearly you've got a conflict that's legitimate with DRM, you're upgrading regularly, and you're doing OS reinstalls often. You're a rare case, and I see why you have an issue. I said earlier, that I would complain about DRM if I had a problem. I've never had one that's been so bad that I've felt the need to jump over the fence. My only issue from what I can recall, and this is EVER, are some of the DLC that was released for Oblivion, the Downloaded content didn't work for me and wouldn't activate, I got a refund, and bought Knights of the Nine instead. That is my one, single DRM horror story. I came up with Crate 3.0 technology. Crate 4.0 - we shall just have to wait and see.Down and out on the Solomani RimNow the Spinward Marches don't look so GRIM!
Gorgon Posted May 2, 2009 Posted May 2, 2009 DRM factors into my buying games in that I will not impulse buy anything with limited installs and required internet access. I'll buy it anyway if the game is good enough though. My experience with STEAM has been pretty decent. I guess I'm more likely to get something protected by STEAM than other schemes. I can't say that I'm that interested in anything on the NWN2 engine anymore. It's out too late, and they have only themselves to blame. By "themselves," I hope you don't mean Ossian Studios, because they're had the game done for some time. It was, in fact, delayed for the sake of the DRM.
