Pope Posted May 19, 2008 Posted May 19, 2008 Lately, I've been having some log-in problems. Even though my user name and password are stored in Firefox, I always need to log in. I also constantly find that after about an hour of being logged in, I automatically log out again. On top of that, sometimes logging in once is ineffective, and I need to do it again. Is this a general problem or is something wrong with my Firefox settings?
taks Posted May 19, 2008 Posted May 19, 2008 it happened to me for about a day or two last week. generally speaking, if your ISP changes your IP #, you will need to re-login. it could just have been that the IPs were resetting often for whatever reason. not a problem the past few days for me at least. taks comrade taks... just because.
alanschu Posted May 19, 2008 Posted May 19, 2008 I had that problem and was about to complain a few days ago, but then it went away so I said meh.
Deadly_Nightshade Posted May 19, 2008 Posted May 19, 2008 It sounds like your IP address might be changing, that could cause the issues you mentioned. "Geez. It's like we lost some sort of bet and ended up saddled with a bunch of terrible new posters on this forum." -Hurlshot
Musopticon? Posted May 19, 2008 Posted May 19, 2008 (edited) Nowadays(when compared to say...two month ago), I have that problem as well. Though I do use a lot of different computers. Guest The Architect Posted May 21, 2008 Posted May 21, 2008 Yeah that's happened to me. I'll be typing a post or a comment, go to enter it then bam, I can't because I've been auto-logged out and I'm like "**** you!" But I'll live with it. If it happened regularly I'd PM the Green Dragon about it, but as it is...
shadowplay107 Posted May 22, 2008 Posted May 22, 2008 it keeps happening to me too A certain annoying, pathetic, furry, purple dinosaur should be: 1. Held up as a loving role model for children
SteveThaiBinh Posted May 22, 2008 Posted May 22, 2008 This seems to be an issue with a number of people's accounts, and has only started fairly recently. We're trying to gather as much information as we can to hand over to admin. If you're experiencing this problem, could you check and see if there's anything you can add to your report above, such as which browser you're using, when the problem started, how often it happens, and anything else that might be relevant? Fionavar Posted May 22, 2008 Posted May 22, 2008 Thanks to Steve for raising this. If people continue to have trouble - it would be most helpful to know browser, version, OS and anti-virus programme. As well, a cut & paste of any error would also be of benefit. F The universe is change; your life is what our thoughts make it - Marcus Aurelius (161)
Gfted1 Posted May 22, 2008 Posted May 22, 2008 It now seems I have to log in daily, both from my work and home PC's. Specs: IE7 WinXP Pro Norton AV "I'm your biggest fan, Ill follow you until you love me, Papa"
Musopticon? Posted May 22, 2008 Posted May 22, 2008 Hmm, I need to log in from both my girlfriend's and my dad's computers each time, although both the Mozilla setting and the forum setting is set to "remember me". Dad's comp: Mozilla Firefox(newest) WinXP Home F-Secure(disabled, except application control) GF's comp: Same version of Firefox, I think Vista No security other than Vista native. kirottu said: I was raised by polar bears. alanschu Posted May 22, 2008 Posted May 22, 2008 I primarily use firefox, and at home it's on WinXP, at work on some form of Linux.
taks Posted May 22, 2008 Posted May 22, 2008 one day last week i had to re-login probably 4 times, and i assumed it was because my ip changed (we're dynamic, though normally it does not change but once a month). it may not have been a result of that because i have a buddy that has an ssh tunnel into our network and he did not have to change his ip that day. haven't had a problem since. several other times over the past year or so i have had an ip change, and my buddy also had to reset his ssh, which is why i posted the above comment. oh, as for the "error," there really isn't any that i see other than the guest screen when i come here. it still has the ****** in the password box as well as taks in the login box, so i simply hit the button and i'm back in. maybe the software is having cookie issues (i.e., they're expiring quickly)? taks comrade taks... just because.
The Guildmaster Posted May 22, 2008 Posted May 22, 2008 Hi all, I made a few cookie changes so let's see if this helps. Sorry for the inconvenience!
walkerguy Posted May 22, 2008 Posted May 22, 2008 Despite password being "remembered" by OE and Mozilla (which I now use ) I have to log again later once I disconnect from the internet. I don't "fall off" after an hour though. Twitter | @Insevin

kirottu Posted May 22, 2008 Posted May 22, 2008 Hi all, I made a few cookie changes so let's see if this helps. Sorry for the inconvenience! Seems to be working. This post is not to be enjoyed, discussed, or referenced on company time.
walkerguy Posted May 22, 2008 Posted May 22, 2008 Is it only with this site walkerguy? Can you please clear your browsers history and cache too as a troubleshooting possibility? I'll let you know whether or not my log in keeps, again, it is only after I disconnect the connection and return later that I must login in once more. Twitter | @Insevin
Gorth Posted May 24, 2008 Posted May 24, 2008 Do you have dynamically assigned IP addresses? I noticed that I need to log on everytime I switch IP address, not when doing it from the same address. “He who joyfully marches to music in rank and file has already earned my contempt. Pope Posted May 24, 2008 Author Posted May 24, 2008 I haven't had the problem lately. Seems like it's fixed. Thx.
taks Posted May 24, 2008 Posted May 24, 2008 twice just now, though with two different tabs. drtaks comrade taks... just because.
Fionavar Posted May 27, 2008 Posted May 27, 2008 taks - can you confirm that you are still having this problem? The universe is change; your life is what our thoughts make it - Marcus Aurelius (161)
