Tale Posted October 16, 2007 Posted October 16, 2007 I ordered the Protoculture collection from Amazon.com last night. Standard shipping. It arrived today. This is why I love Amazon, sometimes. "Show me a man who "plays fair" and I'll show you a very talented cheater."
ramza Posted October 16, 2007 Posted October 16, 2007 (edited) Anyone who likes heroic fantasy ought to watch Sorcerous stabber Orphen and Slayers (the 3 seasons + the movies). The former is quite ok, and the latter is very good (season 1 and 2 and the movies are the best). There's a lot of comedy in both series, so it shouldn't get much boring at any point. Has anyone ever heard of death note? I have read the manga and it's quite interesting. I haven't watched the anime but I believe it follows quite loyally the manga's story. Beware, when reading Death Note, I have found many inconsistencies which kinda ruined my reading. If you don't bother with such things , the story is pretty much ok. If you like american football, there's Eyeshield 21. I don't know about the anime, but the manga is E-X-C-E-L-L-E-N-T! It's a jewel: there's action, there's humor, there are funny faces everywhere... The football matches are a bit exagerrated, but I don't mind. There's also the manga entitled 20th century boys which was made by the same author who made monster. It is amazing and the story evolves at different periods of time: the 70's, the 90's and the 2010's. It's a must read. No anime has been made yet. Oh, and screw naruto and bleach... I am sick and tired of them. Edited October 16, 2007 by ramza "Ooo, squirrels, Boo! I know I saw them! Quick, throw nuts!" -Minsc "I am a well-known racist in the Realms! Elves? Dwarves? Ha! Avakki Posted October 19, 2007 Posted October 19, 2007 After 17 episodes of Claymore, it felt like watching Pokemon in disguise All that "Use <insert special ability> now to defeat that monster!" and constant annoying artificial crying and swordplay got on my nerves eventually. Then I picked Ergo Proxy and it has been absolutely magnificent so far. It has many similarities with Ghost in the Shell series; intelligent plot, interesting characters and most importantly I can take it seriously.
theslug Posted October 19, 2007 Posted October 19, 2007 First 8 or so episodes of Death Note were amazing. After that it spiraled into a fiery mess. Claymore was horrible as well. I finished Seirei No Moribito. Disappointing to le max. Episode three had awesome fighting and I thought that was going to continue. It did not. The story was slow and kind of boring....The concept and atmosphere was nice and of course the animation/art was high quality. I'm all for story driven games/shows but it just seemed like nothing interesting ever happened but it was all tolerable until the end. The ending was lame. I hated the monsters and I hated how it ended. I mean you kind of knew how it would end from the begining but still I wanted something more, it felt highly unfinished becuase in the end they weren't together. At the very least a romantic resolution would have been favorable. I also finished Darker than Black. From the begining it was a tad iffy just a run of the mill action show with a weird plot. Towards the end I began to be pleasantly surprised. It was actually getting really good. The story was coming together well along with the action. Then something horrible happened, the story ended up sucking. Same old lulz secret organization going to genocide some peeps and good cop bad cop and all this nonsense. I'm still not even quite sure what happened at the end either becuase there was lots of magic and lazers going pew pew left and right and crazy comatose grandma laughing in dream land. Really insane. Again no romantic resolution. Soon I begin gurren laggan though which is supposed to be very good. All these shows were supposed to be awesome but in the end they failed..extremely bad. Every time I think about why I continue watching I remember how crippling boredom can be and I cut myself. :'( There was a time when I questioned the ability for the schizoid to ever experience genuine happiness, at the very least for a prolonged segment of time. I am no closer to finding the answer, however, it has become apparent that contentment is certainly a realizable goal. I find these results to be adequate, if not pleasing. Unfortunately, connection is another subject entirely. When one has sufficiently examined the mind and their emotional constructs, connection can be easily imitated. More data must be gleaned and further collated before a sufficient judgment can be reached.
Musopticon? Posted October 19, 2007 Posted October 19, 2007 It would prove rather hard to finish Seirei no Moribito in style, considering it's the first book out of over 11. The story is anything but over. In any case, I've liked the series so far. kirottu said: I was raised by polar bears. I had to fight against blood thirsty wolves and rabid penguins to get my food. theslug Posted October 19, 2007 Posted October 19, 2007 Oh. I knew it was a book but not the first out of 11. Wonder if they'll have another season. Musopticon? Posted October 20, 2007 Posted October 20, 2007 (edited) Probably not, not anywhere soon at least. While having garnered decent critical acclaim, I don't think it was very popular. Edit: On a completely unrelated note:Watch this Edit2 upon reading this, I realised how much I watch this stuff without really enjoying any of it: pwnage spiral robot action, reclusive freaks with perverted imaginations, weird psychic super humans. martial arts fanatics with demons, lolicon wives, red haired chicks with no boobs, mermaids, mystical water spirits, teachers in despair who have strange names that kids make fun of, trees of life and a floating continent, ovas and movies, super smart poor girls that look like boys, pirates that have a grass floor on their ship, music talent, ninjas, emo-looking singers who have respiratory problems with pregnant friends, crazy doctors, hot guys with blue eyes, a weird girl who talks to ghosts and goes back in time, a messenger of death, logos, mutant humans with telekinetic powers, a psychotic freak with a book of death, guys in black coats and masks that can shock people to death, religious exorcists with a weird eye, another psychotic freak who kills his own sister for his conquest of world domination, girls with distorted torsos that can cause a group of thugs to vomit and not rape them, alchemists with metal disks for a heart, giant robots that fight alternate dimensions with robots, death gods with big-ass swords, a ronin(samurai without a master) who travels with a group of performers, buddhist monks who are HAWT, gamblers with weird noses, samurai with AFROS, a world of twelve year olds, a guy who travels around the world with no single motive talking to monsters, sucky ass animation with human eating monsters, a utopia with androids, anime promotional videos, and Kekkaishi, did I miss anything? With that notion on hand, I'll do something else with my free time for a couple of weeks. I'm soaking in this asian effluent as it is. Musopticon? Posted November 1, 2007 Posted November 1, 2007 To keep this forum's sanity and street creed as low as ever, I've resurrected this. In other news, last episode of Bleach(146): Ichigo riding on top of a hollow in a Herbertesque wormy fashion in the middle of a Spanish-influenced ouija spirit world seasoned with the much-maligned Japanese zaniness=complete winnage. kirottu said: I was raised by polar bears. theslug Posted November 2, 2007 Posted November 2, 2007 Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann. 9.7/10 Art style: Absolutely bad ass. Multiple types of style, sometimes really gritty and just insane out of boundaries almost childlike drawing and chaotic and other times just normal. Great stuff. Characters: Lot's of 'em, don't really get to see much farther than skin deep into them but still very good stuff. Story: For the most part, executed absolutely perfectly. There is nothing I can say bad about the first story arc, just absolutely beautifully done. The pacing and build up to the boss fight and finale of the first arc was so awesome, it was just pure insanity of awesomeness. However, the begining of the next arc kind of irked me. The whole show just took a 360 into, in my opinion, the wrong way. I was just put off by the drama and the unrealistic nature of character reactions, but then again what do I know. Either way from there it started building up again like the old days until the closing episodes which were bitter sweet. I'm not going to lie but at some point I was about to tear up, but with manly tears. Honestly I think they could have just stuck with the first arc and just spanned it out a bit more, not to 27 episodes but focus on the characters more and flesh them out to a much larger extent. Also they could of made progression a tad slower and have a bit longer fights but w/e the show was awesome. First arc and finale made up for any non-awesomeness. I'd recommend this show to just about anyone becuase it was probably by far the best show I have ever seen and it completely annihilates the stereotypical anime that is moderately good then has to have a ****tastic ending (i bleeped that myself) and suck with a bunch of horrible crappy anime stuff. Watch it. Now. Do it, just do it. There was a time when I questioned the ability for the schizoid to ever experience genuine happiness, at the very least for a prolonged segment of time. Landiskan Posted November 3, 2007 Posted November 3, 2007 Mahou Magister Negi! Oh and I just finished Girls Bravo, that was sooo funny. Fukuyama is amazing! Just about to start the second series of Slayers too.
Musopticon? Posted November 3, 2007 Posted November 3, 2007 *bangs head* Cats, Sex and Nazi...err I mean Sayonara Zetsubo Sensei, which continues the fine tradition of allusion-submerged zany nigh-fourth wall breaking school comedy. Very dark comedy this time as well. I'm also finishing Bakumatsu Kikansetsu Irhanihoheto, a fine piece of historical bamboozle if there ever was one. I don't know jack crap about the Meiji period, but I can understand over-the-top theater, flying fortresses sporting protonuclear dragon cannons and a man with a sword. I've also started Gankutsuo which I will go further into when I don't want to show off. Hopefully soon. kirottu said: I was raised by polar bears. theslug Posted November 3, 2007 Posted November 3, 2007 I couldn't handle Bakumatsu. Way toooooooo boring and the fights that I saw were lame. Gankutsuou on the other hand is awesome. Calax Posted November 6, 2007 Posted November 6, 2007 Gundam X. It's interesting, admittedly it's only four episodes in. but from the looks of it theres less of the quiet powerful type like heero yuy of wing fame. also its got less of the animation shortcuts that you see in Wing and in Seed. Victor of the 5 year fan fic competition! Kevin Butler will awesome your face off.
Tale Posted November 6, 2007 Posted November 6, 2007 So, I did buy Protoculture Collection a while back. There's just something so annoying about what they did to these series. They're not fooling anyone into thinking these three are related. The shoehorned cross series references grate. They introduce blatant plotholes big enough to fly the SDF-1 through. I think why I'm enjoying it is really in spite of it. They're actually good series on their own. I actually am hopeful for the Shadow Chronicles continuation, though. Since they'll be doing it on their own, they might be able to make a good series. There's no lack of effort in what was done to create Robotech. They obviously had passion for what they were doing, I just think it was an idiotic decision. "Show me a man who "plays fair" and I'll show you a very talented cheater."
Landiskan Posted November 8, 2007 Posted November 8, 2007 Anyone know where I can DL torrents for Negima!? (the second series / remake by SHAFT) I can't seem to find any live links for it...
Tale Posted December 6, 2007 Posted December 6, 2007 I'm dissapointed that nobody has subbed Galaxy Railways II past episode 14. 26 episodes and it ended back in March. It's mostly dissapointing because there's no US licenser, so I won't be able to buy it like I did with Galaxy Railways I. "Show me a man who "plays fair" and I'll show you a very talented cheater."
