Gorth Posted May 4, 2007 Posted May 4, 2007 (edited) http://fallout.bethsoft.com/ Urghh! >_ Ok, so I didn't like Oblivion. I still hoped Bethesda wouldn't completely miss the mark though. Not a lot of optimism left Edited May 4, 2007 by Gorth “He who joyfully marches to music in rank and file has already earned my contempt. Dark_Raven Posted May 4, 2007 Posted May 4, 2007 (edited) Who owns the source code to Van Buren or is it considered abandon ware? Edit. Nevermind I found it. Van Buren assets * The assets of the cancelled Black Isle Studios (BIS) game Van Buren (Fallout 3) were mostly purchased by Obsidian in the deal mentioned above. Assorted pieces have been released through No Mutants Allowed (NMA). Bethesda also received a large amount of Van Buren assets and documention, but Todd Howard of Bethesda has indicated that they will not use any Van Buren assets in their game, but will "start fresh." Pop Posted May 4, 2007 Posted May 4, 2007 (edited) So in a perfect, foreign world, Van Buren could be released as a sort of Tactics-y side project to Beth's F3. Hmmm. At least the devs have all of their work back. It was fun going through KOTOR2 and trying to find all the little bits of VB that made it into that game in some form or another. Pop Posted May 4, 2007 Posted May 4, 2007 Well, uh, what I think that means is, eh, Obsidian has the rights to the concept art, and the engine, and all of that jazz, but they can't actually release a Fallout game without Bethsoft's express permission, they being the owners of the license and all. Gorth Posted May 4, 2007 Posted May 4, 2007 Obsidian also bought some other old Interplay assets, didn't they? Perhaps they want to build their own little museum. They could open up a bar in the office and call it the Cafe of Broken Dreams >_ “He who joyfully marches to music in rank and file has already earned my contempt. Xard Posted May 4, 2007 Posted May 4, 2007 I prefer Caf How can it be a no ob build. It has PROVEN effective. I dare you to show your builds and I will tear you apart in an arugment about how these builds will won them. - OverPowered Godzilla (OPG)
Xard Posted May 4, 2007 Posted May 4, 2007 Yes, if. Which is something I really doubt as Beth has license and I can't imagine why Beth would allow OE to touch their license How can it be a no ob build. It has PROVEN effective. They could open up a bar in the office and call it the Cafe of Broken Dreams Cafe of Broken Dreams rules. They may not be able to make a Fallout game with Van Buren's remains, but they could make their own post Apocalyptic game with it. Hades was the life of the party. RIP You'll be missed.
Zoma Posted May 4, 2007 Posted May 4, 2007 Feargie did mention about expressing interest in making their own fantasy apocalyptic game when the chance arrives in one of the interview. While we couldn't go with the campy 50's feel of Fallout (campy as in the Pip Boy look, not campy as in culture references), I think the tension created by having all the different fantasy societies trying to scrape by and rebuild would make for an interesting world to explore. Something along the lines of Arcanum, but Mad Max style.

metadigital Posted May 5, 2007 Posted May 5, 2007 So, would that be making a post-apoc game out of a game that suffered an apocalyptic event ... a post-apoc game of a post-apoc game? OBSCVRVM PER OBSCVRIVS ET IGNOTVM PER IGNOTIVS OPVS ARTIFICEM PROBAT
Dark_Raven Posted May 5, 2007 Posted May 5, 2007 Sure why not. Hades was the life of the party. RIP You'll be missed.
Tigranes Posted May 5, 2007 Posted May 5, 2007 Oh god, don't start another forum drama about Hungarians. The point is that naiming it the Cafe of Broken Dreams would be a reference to the original fallout games, no matter the actual meaning of the name. So naming it something else wouldn't really work. Now let's move on. Let's Play: Icewind Dale Ironman (Complete) Let's Play: Icewind Dale II Ironman (Complete) Let's Play: Divinity II (Complete) Let's Play: Baldur's Gate Trilogy Ironman - BG1 (Complete) Let's Play: Baldur's Gate Trilogy Ironman - BG2 (In Progress)

Tigranes Posted May 5, 2007 Posted May 5, 2007 (edited) It's a freaking reference to popular culture, nobody's going to sue you for having an OFFICE PARTY CAFE THING called the cafe of broken dreams. Let it go. Has anyone finished the tech demo? It had pretty bad performance for me so I haven't bothered yet. I understand it's only like 15 minutes long? Pop Posted May 5, 2007 Posted May 5, 2007 I fooled around with the vault door for a little while, opened the door and couldn't walk through it, closed the door and then walked through it. From there, you meet some vault-dwellers who need a generator fixed. So I had to find a toolkit, but I couldn't, so I flamed everybody I could find. Then I found out the door to the generator room was locked, so I flamed it. The game did not see this coming, and promptly crashed. I loved what I saw, though. Ranged pistol whip ftw. Girias_Solo Posted May 6, 2007 Posted May 6, 2007 Maybe Sawyer could work away on this game instead of the NWN2 mod he is cranking out.... Yeah I know, pigs might fly...
Morgoth Posted May 6, 2007 Posted May 6, 2007 Maybe Sawyer could work away on this game instead of the NWN2 mod he is cranking out.... Yeah I know, pigs might fly... Sure they can. And yes, while it's cool that J.E. works on TBH with the NWN2 engine, working with the old VB engine would make me flying! Rain makes everything better.
