Atreides Posted April 24, 2006 Posted April 24, 2006 What do you guys think on collaborating when it comes to campaign/mod-making? Everyone has their own forte, whether it's unnatural knowledge of Star Trek, constructing art objects or writing dialogue for example. Relative to NWN2, what could/would you contribute? Personally I can give some feedback on an economic/finance model for the campaign and maybe the financial impact of future events (insuranec, for example) framework. Plus I know a little about Japanese culture and a lot about soccer. I don't claim to be an expert though. Btw I posted this in PnP because it's largely theoretical at this point and applicable to campaign making. Plus we're not Devs. Devs welcome to join btw, if they want to talk about particular skills that didn't get used on NWN2 ) Spreading beauty with my katana.
Llyranor Posted April 24, 2006 Posted April 24, 2006 Hahahahaha, it's been tried before. Numerous times. HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA (Approved by Fio, so feel free to use it)
Walsingham Posted April 24, 2006 Posted April 24, 2006 I have technical skills for toffee. I can just about manage helping come with possibly challenging fights, and I can script dialogue used by mobsters, military men, and morons. Very willing to chip in. "It wasn't lies. It was just... bull****"." -Elwood Blues tarna's dead; processing... complete. Disappointed by Universe. RIP Hades/Sand/etc. Here's hoping your next alt has a harp.

Nick_i_am Posted April 24, 2006 Posted April 24, 2006 I tried this once. My mistake was trying it with Llyranor. (Approved by Fio, so feel free to use it)
Diogo Ribeiro Posted April 24, 2006 Posted April 24, 2006 I can do Llyranor and Musopticon?. Simultaneously.
Morgoth Posted April 24, 2006 Posted April 24, 2006 I actually do have some level design and Art skills, but instead of wasting my talent with a bunch of Obsidian dwellers, I rather would do a mod on my own behalf. Rain makes everything better.
Musopticon? Posted April 24, 2006 Posted April 24, 2006 Great. More manlove for us then. kirottu said: I was raised by polar bears. Shadowstrider Posted April 24, 2006 Posted April 24, 2006 I've made mods with people, and they can turn out really good, or downright terrible. Right now I'm planning a Persistent World for NWN2, and a series of SP modules, all with some friends of mine. Sawyer has a very good post about mod organization posted in some forum above. I recommend you check it out before you start.
Morgoth Posted April 24, 2006 Posted April 24, 2006 If NWN2 doesn't allow me to do custom art assets (and I mean from scratch with all it's own models, animations and exporter supported for all major 3d animation packages), I'm not really interested in it either. The NWN2 Toolset sounds very powerful from a designer standpoint, though from an Artist standpoint who wants 100% control I'm not so hopefully.... I'm just doing some examples with Source (HL2 engine) right now, and after some horrendous nights, I finally managed to get the animation of my sweet alien working in a HL2 testlevel..... I feel sooo proud now! Source is a bitch, but once beaten you can do awesome things with it! Rain makes everything better.
Kaftan Barlast Posted April 24, 2006 Posted April 24, 2006 I heard some very confusing comments on importing Models etc. into NWN2 during the devchat. We've used 3D Studio Max exclusively for this project. At this point in time that's the only package we have plug-ins for in terms of getting data out of. I believe there are plans for eventually releasing the exporter plug-in. This should cover all non-skinned objects. We're still currently investigating a solution for skinned objects (i.e. creatures). Morgoth Posted April 24, 2006 Posted April 24, 2006 (edited) Morgoth> Ive seen the same type of split occur in the face of other models, do you have any clue of whats causing it? Is it in the texture or the mesh? <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Oh that... " Normally, someone would say it's either messy UV Seems or you forgot to merge and soften (Smoothing Groups called in Max) the symmetry vertices. I did that all in my case, and although the Texture seems to be okay in Maya, in Source it doesn't render properly, and I've no clue why yet. Kaftan Barlast Posted April 24, 2006 Posted April 24, 2006 Its one of those things that makes you go nuts because often theres no real reason why it behaves like that. If you use the wrong ATI drivers in KoTOR2 you will get the same result. I think alot or even most of it has to do with the renderer, I know that in MAX a texture rendered with Mental Ray can look great while being hacked to pieces using ..ah, Ive forgot what its called.. the default renderer. And vice versa. Does the seam of the texture and/or normalmap run along the symmetry line in your model? Morgoth Posted April 24, 2006 Posted April 24, 2006 Does the seam of the texture and/or normalmap run along the symmetry line in your model? <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Yes, and it's a mirrored model, therefor I'm also sharing texture space. But I merged the UV Seams, so that can't be the problem. In the testlevel however, when I get closer to the model, these seams disappear, so I guess it's maybe a graphics driver issue, or I ****ed up something with my light setup or whatever!!! Arghhh!!! ARGHHHHHH!!!!!! And oh yeah, I agree on the "Going nuts" part. One more so I can sleep better: ARGHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!! Rain makes everything better.

Kaftan Barlast Posted April 27, 2006 Posted April 27, 2006 If you can guarantee that your module will be a "high profile" one then Ill be happy to supply proffessional quality graphics and animations to it. If someone was to pull together a large enough project, I have access to some very nice hardware (like our pro grade MoCap studio) and a whole bunch of very talented people.
