Arkan
Crt's beat lcd's, this is like bragging about forth place. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> How so? I'm using my new 19'' LCD from some off brand company I think (X2gen) and it has an amazin picture. Looks just as good as any CRT I've seen. It's also about 10 percent of the weight. What is the ghosting and other stuff, anyway? "Of course the people don't want war. But after all, it's the leaders of the country who determine the policy, and it's always a simple matter to drag the people along whether it's a democracy, a fascist dictatorship, or a parliament, or a communist dictatorship. Voice or no voice, the people can always be brought to the bidding of the leaders. That is easy. All you have to do is tell them they are being attacked, and denounce the pacifists for lack of patriotism, and exposing the country to greater danger." - Herman Goering at the Nuremberg trials "I have also been slowly coming to the realisation that knowledge and happiness are not necessarily coincident, and quite often mutually exclusive" - meta

Nameless One
The only kind-of special thing about my PC: with the new and shiny (and expansive) power supply unit and the fanless GF6600GT and some good cpu-fan it's a quite silent machine. All the ones with water-cooling: shut up! I don't like you.

alanschu
I haven't seen burn in on any CRT monitor made in probably the last 15 years. The thing I like most about my CRT is resolution flexibility. EDIT: Consider yourself lucky then Arkan, you don't notice it so it's no big deal. SSgtSniper
This new Flat screen I got I love to death, it's soo small and space is at a fracking premium on my desk. How do I know if I'm LCD or Plasma, or what I am (Was given this monitor by the bossman) And shepherds we shall be, for Thee, my Lord, for Thee. Power hath descended forth from Thy hand, that our feet may swiftly carry out Thy command. So we shall flow a river forth unto Thee, and teeming with souls shall it ever be, In Nomine Patris, et Fili, et Spiritus Sancti.

LoneWolf16
What's with all the LCD talk? Hell, this 17 inch flatscreen CRT is excellent since I'm pretty close to it so size isn't really an area I'm too concerned with, that and space isn't a problem, so this is really the best option at the moment, as bulky as it is. Might change once I move out, but right now...high resolution gaming bliss. And there really isn't anything wrong with Dell, save for one amazingly prominent thing. Price. Sweet Jesus, it would have been much cheaper, if less reliable, to just build my own like I used to...but the siren call of changable LED lights was....it was just too much. That, and I ordered mine a couple weeks before the new 7800s launched...so I'm kicking the hell out of myself for that one. Edit: And hello, Mr. College newb. Enjoy your stay. What is the ghosting and other stuff, anyway? <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Brightness, contrast, no problem with refresh, to name three. LCD stands for Liquid Crystal Display, it uses a current to change the state of the crystals to let light through; this is not as fast as the electron gun in a CRT that fire a beam of electrons (hence the name) that are directed via the magnet in the Cathode Ray Tude. Although CRT screens larger than 17" weigh more than the room holding the computer equipment, and everything in it, and are almost deeper than they are wider, if you have the space and don't need a portable screen it is still a better screen, and they are markedly cheaper at the moment, too. LCDs are lighter and don't draw as much AC, and they don't need a screen saver. Biggest problem is there aren't too many reviews around comparing CRTs anymore, so it is more difficult to choose a good one. Gabrielle
I have not been keeping up on technology, was wondering if the flatscreen problem with game graphics has been fixed. I remember when they first came out they couldn't handle the fast complexity of the graphics coming from games.

metadigital
Yeah, anything with a refresh less than 20ms should be okay for all but the most demanding stuff, like watching Bad Boys 2 (one of the tests). A lot of panels are down below 12ms, some even 4ms. OBSCVRVM PER OBSCVRIVS ET IGNOTVM PER IGNOTIVS OPVS ARTIFICEM PROBAT

Gromnir
did Gromnir mention that he dislikes viewsonic? have had some bad experience with viewsonic monitors not purchased by Gromnir. even so, our architect/gaming friend told us that we couldn't go wrong with a g90fb for a 19" monitor. we took her advice... reluctantly. is a great monitor... best we ever had. so then more recent we ask her 'bout 21" crt monitors. sure 'nuff she tells us that not only does she see some of best performance from the viewsonic g220fb, but it happens to be cheaper and lighter than most other 21" monitors. sure, there is some professional class monitors for $1000+, but for gaming use she not thinks that there is a better option available. ... nec fe2111sb is what we got now, but we wants a second 21" and am not sure if we would buy a second nec... is an ok monitor, but nothing spectacular. in particular, we gots some complaints 'bout color sharpness. another viewsonic? HA! Good Fun! Foamhead
I am currently using a TRS-80 with 4 kb of ram and 4kb of rom. I also have one of those new cutting edge "display monitors" in glorious Black and White. Due to what I suspect is horrible programming on the parts of web designers, it takes FOREVER for a new "web-page" as they seem to be called to load up. I only hope that one day these poor programmers can catch up with my awesome hardware so that I can finally enjoy all the wonderful things I hear about this inter-net.
