  1. You mean the 2009 OS that mainstream support ended on January 13, 2015? I am shocked that Obsidian isn't supporting Windows 7. Yes, the 2009 one that nearly 40% of the desktop market still uses and has no desire to upgrade. Now that Obsidian is Microsoft they won't support their older OS's. Keep sucking up I'm sure they're just about to make you a mod. Around 30% of Steam gamers use Win 7. Less for gamers in the West, the target market. Less among FPS gamers. Obsidian, Private Division, and Microsoft will have statistics on the market, they won't leave 40% on the table. Microsoft don't decide on OS support they're not publishing. Extended support ends 2020, desire to upgrade is incoming. As much as it might shatter your entire sense of reality to absorb this fact, not everyone uses Steam as a platform so it isn't a proper metric. Current estimates are 40% regardless of what Valve says. Microsoft owns both State of Decay 2 and Sea of Thieves also, they didn't release either for Windows 7 or 8. Microsoft's studios only support the current OS because that's how they roll.

  3. So everyone else has gone into detail why you are wrong so I'm just going to nitpick another portion in which you are wrong. Deadfire had romances in it, they were done terribly, which is why Obsidian has said that they prefer not to do them in the first place. *Insert reply about being a twit from RPGCodex here* To be fair, I found Deadfire so boring I never got far enough to see that portion. Well shut my mouth.
  4. What the hell are you on about? The game is coming out for both consoles and Windows. See here: And if you're talking about Linux, well pardon them for not creating an architecture for the %1 of the potential userbase. And one shouldn't really expect to play games on MacOS anyway. Maybe down the line, if the sales are good, it could be feasible. While I'm not exactly keen on the fact that there's no "romance", I trust them to create characters that feel close to your heart. Say, like, Veronica in New Vegas. And I will probably be adding a mod to alleviate this fact when they eventually come out. Or maybe a DLC? Who knows. And it's really hard to create believable romance in an intricate RPG. Mass Effect and Witcher could do it, because well, the main character was more defined. So the designer has a certain framework to start with. And considering these folk aren't exactly swimming in money, I understand their decision. But it's fine, I guess. You just keep being you. My bad. I meant it would not support other operating systems like Windows 7.
  5. There are always twits who think that by hating things which are popular they are so much smarter. They are usually from the RPG Codex coincidentally. They've never had romance options in their games so I don't see why Obsidian feels the need to advertise this fact in every game. At this point I think they are trying to appeal to said above twits. Between being Windows 10 exclusive and more of the same appeal to fanboy philosophy, my interest is completely zero now. *Edit* By Windows 10 exclusive I mean in terms of PC. I should have been more clear that I was not including consoles.
  6. The funny thing is that Chris Avellone wrote Planescape: Torment, which was released in 1999 (i.e. a year before Baldur's Gate 2) and was perhaps the first cRPG that featured plenty of romance that was central to the plot. I'd argue that simplifying his comments on video game romance as 'immature and condescending' is pretty immature and condescending of you. I said comments on Love and Romance, I did not say video game romance. If you're gonna reply to someone then reply to what they actually said.
  7. it wouldn't matter, because most people who hate them simply believe they are "real RPG fans" by hating things that are popular.
  8. I just want a romance that is lengthy and well written. I have always felt Bioware could have done bigger and better but seems to be stuck in the same cycle of: Player: "HI!" NPC: "Hello." (Finds NPC's lost hanky) Player: "I think you are attractive." NPC: "Oh God oh God I need you inside me right now!" (Reverse the last two sentences if you are a female player) I believe Obsidian has the best writers in the RPG business, but Chris Avellone's frankly immature and condescending attitude towards love and romance turns me off. Since this game is looking like another dungeon crawl hack and slash I doubt I'll be buying it regardless.

    Slow reload

I fixed the mouse stuttering but when I reload a check point the game freezes, for sometimes two minutes before the game starts. Does anyone know what causes this and the fix? I use a GeForce 450, a Pentium duel core 2.2 and have 2 gigs of ram.
  10. I'm going to go out on a limb and guess you are from the Codex. Every single person claims they saw the twist coming "a mile away" and conveniently enough they all claimed this long after they finished the game. And naturally you have have most of the "I hate Bioware" talking points from the codex.
  11. Alan, Please tell me where you disagree but here is my 2 cents... Bioware has succeeding in piquing my interest in this game. What I have asked on Biowares forums and gotten no answer to is this: 1. You guys claim that players can make choices and NPC's respond yadda yadda yadda...How do you provide all this vaunted interactivity without affecting the other players? If the answer is that each player get his or her own instance then is this an MMORPG or a massively single player online role playing game? Because I fail to see how a player can have meaningful interactivity in a persistent world without harming the experience of another. 2. I hate MMORPG's with a passion. I hate being manipulated and I have no addictive personality what so ever. I do dabble in WOW but I have one level 80 and it took me three years to get it there. That is how little I play. I hate level grinding, I hate time sinks, and I hate having nothing to do but kill things. I am not into dungeon crawls which is all these MMORPG's are. I am also a full time student and do not have the time nor inclination to do these ridiculous raids that require an eight hour time commitment and belonging to a guild. I don't mean to put down anyone here who does these things but frankly, I have a life, and do not consider spending it on a computer a productive use of my little free time. What does The Old Republic do differently for people like me who do not like mindless grinds and lengthy tedious raiding? I remember WOW how I would die and have to navigate the massive roadblocks of mountains and other barricades Blizzard set up between me and my corpse just so I could play again. I pay 20 bucks a month to play WOW not a bleeping maze. If your game sucks so bad that your company needs to purposely waste a players time in order to keep them playing then you have a pretty crappy game IMHO. I also remember my disappointment upon reaching level 80 in WOW and discovering that was all. There was nothing else to do but grind away reputation or emblems. What does TOR do differently so I have a reason to play when I can no longer level up? 3. You say you have NPC's, does that mean I have character interaction and romances and all that stuff that I love about RPG's? If so how is that handled? 4. What mechanisms are in place so that all classes are fun? Because this is a Star Wars game and you can bet your bippy there will be a glut of Force users...especially Sith. I actually have started following this game with interest because if the game is the single player experience that Bioware seems to be implying...and it really is a game and not a hack slash level grind I will buy it. But not until I know what I am investing in. You don't need to take part in PvP if you do not want to. We're really pushing the story. According to discussion on Gamebreaker.tv, the consensus after many journalists played the game for 6 hours is that TOR is looking to put the RPG back into MMORPG. The personal stories are still set up, and personal. You're the one that makes the decisions and decides how to proceed through the story. It's not any different than the idea that there are other people out there that played KOTOR 1 and 2. It's entirely possible to experience your own personal story with minimal interaction with other players, and really the only place you'd see them would be as you moved to different story points. Once you get to the actual content parts, the game is set up to allow you to experience the game at your pace without interruption from other players. I'd give us a little more credit than that. As for rendering your whole gaming experience meaningless, I disagree. Nothing takes away from the fact that you played and enjoyed KOTOR 1 and 2.
  12. Overall I think Obsidian did a great job. My advice is to never listen to magazine reviews since they tend to be hopelessly biased towards major labels. Yes the game does graphically blow lightening up your ass but so what. The game play is great and the character interaction is superb.
  13. I am going to throw my two cents in and say that this save system is atrocious. I am tired of having to redo entire sections whenever I screw up and am not playing this game until a proper save system is implemented. Honestly, what the hell were you guys thinking?
  14. Do you reallllllly want me to quote every time you claimed that you were awesome and had a crack team of developers who would complete the mod? ::Edit:: Scratch that, how does this sound: You show me where I ever stated that I had a "crack team of programmers" and I will buy the first ten people who send me a private message a copy of Alpha Protocol. I apologized, I meant it and explained what happened and I am through trading barbs with an emotional four year old.
  15. lol gee, THIS wasn't expected at all! As we all knew you're just full of hot air (to be polite). DSLuke - very much so. TSLRP is in a releasable condition, but there's a big difference between something being releasable, and something being in a condition so that it should be released. The project needs more polish before TG will release it, but it is getting there. You don't know anything about me buddy and I don't promise anything I don't try my damnedest to deliver on. The difference is I worked and said nothing, unlike team Gizka who does the exact opposite. And frankly as the risk of getting banned I have to say that I find you an obnoxious loud mouth to put it mildly. This must be the only source of self worth for you in the whole universe, isn't it? Being on a beta team of a five year old mod for a five year old game that hardly anyone cares about anymore, then mouthing off online to anyone who is critical of the team who's boots you lick clean. You must be a total and utter loser in your real life. Nothing you can say is going to make me feel bad and your mockery only belays how much of a non-life you must have for this stupid game to mean so much to you. I tried very hard to get people together but no one else is willing to do any work because much like yourself they are all mouth. What the hell else am I supposed to do?
  16. The real question is how many people still care. Stop threatning to make a restoration project of your own and make one, dammit! You promised us to work on it already by now... guess you're word isn't worth much? As a matter of fact I made several attempts to do this very thing and here is what happened. 1. Team Gizka like usual ignored me. 2. Another competing team is also making a restoration, (and according to the head of that group a superior one at that) and asked me if my offer for support was still on the table. I said it was and started to get in contact with my friend who is also my best programmer. I was in the middle of putting the two together when the head of this second team told me not to bother since it was someone on my pay roll. I asked what the problem was and got vague statements about the wrongness of using paid help, lest the mod not be finished and I would have wasted my money. I told said group leader that I did not care and I would pay and contribute whatever it took, money or otherwise, as long as the mod was out before Team Gizka's and out by end of summer. If the project fell apart for whatever reason I would not care much nor harbor and hard feelings. Stuff happens after all. All I got back was another refusal. 3. I went to some modders and tried to put another team together of my own but the consensus on the Sith Lords is "Old hat" and no one wants to do it. So what can I say? I should not have made the promise, but I did try and only got: Group a.) Silence Group b.) Lack of desire Group c:) Total indifference At this point I have washed my hands of it and no longer give a crap if this mod ever comes out. Anyone associated with this game seems to have some sort of neurological disorder that prevents them from finishing it in a timely manner or accepting competent help. I suspect that no one is particularly interested in finishing it and, in moments of pique and anger of the retail versions lack of content yelled they would finish it, and when push came to shove discovered they were not up for the task. So I do apologize for flapping my mouth about finishing it but like I said I did try...hard, but the feet dragging and lack of motivation/follow through was certainly not on my end.
  17. Heh, at this rate TSL could come out with three additional party members, Hiro, Mikiko and Superfly! Well I'm not one to speak for the team, but maybe some fresh and new blood would put some more life into the project, and take some weight off of Dashus and the others' shoulders? I have offered TG repeatedly via private message to give them a free coder to work full time on the mod, but they ignored me each time. They don't want help and they don't want the attention to end. Edit: Just realized how old that post was...oops :/
  18. TG forum members built the hype themselves TBH. Dash posted only one message. All these appologies are getting tiresome. It just shows how little understanding there is from Team-Gizka and their fans, concerning the matter at hand and the nature of Dahus' message. It doesn't matter if the mod will be done tomorrow or in this very moment. The fact of the matter is that TG used in an in-house joke on everyone interested. This conduct is of a very unproffessional manner, only suited to those yes-men that worship any decision that Team-Gizka happens to do. Personally, i thought that the 'summer 2008' was a typo, anything else would've been considered a d***move from their part. I guess that i was wrong in the very end. No, what really happened was: 1) Team-Gizka apparantly lacks any form of social understanding. They seem to be completely surprised by the backlash that later happened. Threatening with litigation? That's just a typical "waaaa, i'm gonna tell mommy!"-diatribe that only juveniles do. Grow up already and learn to take some responsibility for your actions. 2)"We're just doing it for ourselves! No promises! When it is done! It was just a small message, it is your own fault". Again, what's with the excuses? If you really want to be consequent with your methods, then shut down the site, tell everyone to p*ss off and refuse to do any form of hype, not even after release. Actually, you shouldn't even release it to the public at all to begin with, since you are "just doing for yourselves". But of course you wouldn't do that. By doing so, then Team-Gizka, the Beta-team and all your supporters wouldn't enjoy your status that you have achieved. The reactions from the leaked Beta showed that pretty clearly. Or..... 3) Team-Gizka is a bunch of sociopathic trolls that are enjoying a nice social experiment. Just how much can one abuse people's trust? How much longer can we enjoy a fandom of yes-men? Where is exactly lies the boundry of people's self-respect? If true, then i applaud them for managing to conduct a practical joke of such proportions. These things take skill, patience and a lot of hard work. So in other words, you are saying what I said a year ago.
  19. That's a funny understanding of the concept of altruism you seem to have. Sounds more like you want to come off as some sort of holy benefactor to save the 'community' from another let down. As for 'torching' your house, you must really have a big idea of yourself to think that. Blatant plagiarists and rip-offs have been dealt with much less and there have been many more letdowns in 'the community' than simply waiting for this particular mod to fully materialise. On the one hand you say you don't want to raise false hopes, but on the other you mention on more than one occasion how you are going to hire a crack-team of programmers to do the mod. You say you want to keep it secret, but then you go on about being shot down by TG for not accepting your alleged deus ex machina help. What's the point of that if you don't want to raise false hopes and sympathy for yourself? Lame. I guess my original response was a little too spot on for the mods tastes. You obviously are either on the beta team or are insanely devoted to them. Regardless, since you had to change my words in order to present me in an unfavorable light I think you have pretty much written my answer for me. For the record refuse didn't flag your post I did, for no other reason than I felt that the language and tone of your first post was totally unwarranted. Had another member posted the same things about or to you I'd have reported them. I do not know anyone who works on the TSLRP, but I am sure that constantly posting negative comments about their work is hardly a great way to get on the team - even if they were looking for someone. Which they are not. As far as they know you are simply making wild claims in the hope that you can get an early version of the mod, which you will then release claiming it as your own. They've already had one leak, effectively ruining some 4 years of hard work, so I seriously doubt that they will let anyone they don't know can be trusted anywhere near the mod - no matter what help they may offer or claim to be able to provide. Look, I appreciate where you are coming from but let's keep things in perspective. It is just a game mod done by hobbyists for a product they do not even own. Maybe this is just me but I wouldn't care if someone "stole" my half finished mod so that they could make their game break and crash every ten seconds. You need to re-read my posts because I never trashed them, although I did make some cutting comments to Darth Windu, mainly with regards to his attitude and not the game itself. They claim they are doing this for the fans etc... but their refusal to accept help that would greatly accelerate the process to me is a contradiction of that statement. And on top of that, merely for suggesting I might take up finishing the project without their endorsement got nasty childish remarks thrown my way by people on their team. Regardless I made a second offer today and either they will accept the help or they won't, but they are not a professional design studio that I am about to "prove" my intent to. They do not own this game ergo it's content can't be stolen and their fears are moot in that regard. Saying anything on my part about doing this mod myself when I should have just shut up and kept this to myself was a mistake. In any case I'm not going to drag this board down anymore by hammering this topic to death.

  21. God couldn't get Duke Nukem Forver out if he threatened 3D realms with eternal damnation. I don't even want it to come out because the adventure of watching it's development is infinately more fun then the game itself could ever provide. I guess it depends on which deity you believe then, right? If you're going to pray to a mythological creature for salvation and inspiration, you might as well throw in Duke Nukem Forever (and a bug-busting, plot-development Obsidian-made expansion/patch to TSL). Otherwise, it seems a rather pointless (mind you I consider myself an antitheist, so apologies to anyone if I have offended their spiritual beliefs). But seriously dude, assuming you have actually hired people to do this and you aren't talking nonsense (to put it politely), why not get on with it and start your own thread or website and ignore what Team Gizka is doing with their project? Maybe there you can even showcase all the improvement and what your goals and targets are, you know? If I were to start such a project I would not tell anyone until it was done because I don't believe in getting peoples hopes up, and life being what it is I never know when I might be prevented from finishing the project myself. The last thing this community needs is a second let down, and I would rather not have my house torched. My not personally giving a rats behind about this mod is also a consideration, although I do care that the community deserves to have their patience rewarded. That's right, altruism isn't dead yet. I am basically in the "Do I really wanna invest my time and money in this" phase and I will have decided at the end of the month. If I do decide to finish it then it will be quietly and without announcement until it is finished.
