Why does everyone hate Drizzt?

Can someone explain me, please? I have read all of Salvatore's novels and I can't bring myself to hate that character. Of course, it's annoying that he's uber cool and invincible but he has the merit to have some interesting moral values.

I just asked myself the question when reading this thread?

Cheers.

Volourn will never grow up, he's like the Black Peter Pan, here to tell you that it might be great to always be a child, but everybody around is gonna hate it. :p

I actually love to see that someone of a truly evil race can be so good and change the ways what was intended for his future.

He is simply awesome ^_^

PS: Don't forget what lvl he is now, no beginner in the orc-hacking job :D

I...don't hate Drizzt. There, I wrote it. He could be interesting, if he didn't always feel so tacked on, like for instance in Demon Stone and BG.

That **** Salvatore I do hate, however.

But I liked that spin-off with Jarlaxle and Entreri.

I can only assume you have never played either Baldur's Gate game.

- I try to kill anything that says I can't possibly kill it. It's just encitement.

- If it subsequently gets resurrected, then I really get angry. Then I have to kill it with extreme prejudice, and throw its equipment into the sea.

- If it has an annoying English accent which it abuses to make annoying statements such as "Friends await while I must conduct this tiresome dance", then I fear he is besmirching my national heritage.

I don't hate him for being a drow, being a good drow, or having neat swords. I have never even encountered a duel-weilding Drizzt wannabe.

No, I have played both games and have tried to kill Drizzt in both of them. In BG1, I wanted to kill him in a straightforward way (using no tricks), but I always failed. I tried many times but never succeeded. I finally gave up until I got bored at some point and created a Drizzt with the CLUAConsole command. I was lucky that day because some "smurfs" (forgot their name) got in the way between my characters and Drizzt, and I managed to kill him.

In BG2, I never managed to kill Drizzt without losing a party member. And the only time I managed to kill him was byt turning into the Slayer. I can't understand why my kensai/mage couldn't beat him with his standard skills.

anyway, besides the challenge of killing him, I never felt any hate towards him. I can't say I feel sympathy for him either since he's a flawless character in the novels. There's no way you can "identify" yourself with the character since he's above everyone else...

I just feel that if I am shown a foppish cretin dancing about I ought to be allowe dto kill him. And he ought to stay dead. The very notion that such a character might inspire such blind loyalty as to warrant his repeated resurrection is frightening. If it had been a pnp game, I would have cut his body into several dozen pieces, minced them up with some catnip and soy-sauce, and fed them to cat!

Yes, the dev.s of BG loved Drizzt (as i do too) ,but he should not have such an active role in it, maybe just so speeches, or we just see him more hacking gnolls, orcs, etc..

The problem was not Drizzt, it was how the dev.-s used him. :-

Everyone dislikes him because he's an uber muppet. He's a super hero with no weaknesses in the Forgotten Realms.

No, he depends on his friends too much and they will all be dead in a few years anyway. What will the elf do then? At level sixteen he's far from the most powerful person on toril

He was beaten hands down by my hero Obould in the hunters blade trilogy

. No doubt once he runs into trouble, say shuruppak this time, his friends won

Yaw devs, Yaw!!! (
