How many of you play it?

I've been in and out of it since I started with Prophecy. I suppose I'm in it for the creativity and fun/style combos and for laughs. A year or two after I started playing I was lucky enough to learn to be a better than average player under the "tutelage" of a serious player/trader.

Very recently I dl'd the spoilers for the Kamigawa set after about a year or two out because I didn't have the time/cash to continuously invest into the game.

I used to have a stack of several hundred cards before I realised that I never actually played it with anyone and then just threw them out. I wonder now if chucked any rare and valuable cards in the bin.

Ah well.

I like the old stuff that is now considered 'illegal' by wizards of the coast. those were fun to go after people with because you always had a mix and match deck. Now you get a single guy who can attack with 1054 damage and be blocked by a wall of faith to get the life.

I played it with my friends back in the days of Revised ed. it was fun until people started to buy individual cards and build competitive decks, then it was just gay.

Its true for all games, when you forget that the whole point is to do it for fun, and start to play to win, you ruin everything.

I played off and on since Fallen Empires. I don't really have anyone to play with now, so I don't play.

I used to play quite a bit. I even managed to win a sanctioned tournament about five years ago.

I haven't played for years, although I still have a collection of 11,000+ cards. It takes up a lot of space, but my wife won't let me give them to the young folks I know who play the game. She wouldn't even let me donate them to anyone. Dammit, she must think they'll be worth something some day, which could theoretically be true. I doubt if I even find someone to buy the damned things though. It's odd, because my wife is actually quite charitible. Why she acts so weird about my MtG cards is beyond me.

Hey, anyone want to have ton of magic cards?

Me! *Raises hand*

I'd suggest getting them checked out against what's valuable to traders. Since you're a good player you'll have an idea what's valuable - check out sites and see what people are trading and at how much.

Unless you have some really really good stuff like Moxes or Power 9's (I think that's what they're called), Black Lotus' etc individual cards rarely go up beyond USD25 I think. Don't quote me on this - this is just what I glanced at some info.

Plus, cards may actually deteriorate in value with time if they phase into the old block. Maybe not significantly but the possibility is there.

My brother introduced me to it a few years back. We played one game and I had no clue what I was doing, but my inner nerd kicked in at the sight of rare cards and pretty pictures. I now have a collection of several hundred cards but have never played since.

I just talked to my wife. She wants me to sell them on Ebay. I might just keep some of the more valuable cards and then ship them to you. I've shipped stuff to online friends in the past, and I'm willing to do so again. Let me look into it. I'd really rather give them to somebody than scalp some poor bastard on ebay.

Now this is a game, which a programmer really messed up. All and all it was a great game. As you play it, the speed of MTG depends on the processor. Since I now have a 2.6GHtz system, I probally could not keep up with the game.

Whosa whatsit? What does a processor have to do with a card game?

EDIT: Oh right... forgot there was a computer version. But then it's turn based... so what does speed have to do with anything?

I haven't played physical Magic for years - we started in 1994 and I managed to get full sets of everything from the Dark - Urza's Saga, but after that my gaming group was splintered around the world and a lot of the newer cards just seemed to be reprints of older cards.

Then about a month ago I discovered Magic On-line and have started playing again.

It's really a lot of fun plus I keep seeing new cards I've never seen before seeing as I've been out of the game for a while. Of course you are paying money for "virtual" cards but if you acquire a full set you can trade them in for their physical counterparts. Plus there are always tons of people to trade/play with.

If anyone is interested I play as "TeufelHund666". You can demo the online version if you download the client.

I have a deck, but I've never actually layed the game. Back then it was too expensive to ruffle the deck and no one seemed to be interested in playing it. Nowadays I just don't care.

One of my favourite phrases is "These high school graduates still play Magic cards! I weep for my ancestors since their offspring have degenerated into morons!"

So, no, I don't. And I'm still in high school, even. I quit playing when I was like, 12.

Do you still play computer games? People often feel the same way about computer games as they do about MtG. In fact, most folks are so pedestrian that they look down on most intellectual games except those games that have been entrenched. Even so, how many jokes have you found in literature and cinema regarding the "chess club?"

If you don't like playing MtG because you've found you don't have the time, or it just isn't fun anymore, or there are more important things to do, that fine. If you don't play Magic because you're afraid of what other people will think.... how sad. You simply must be careful when dealing with prejudices of the majority.

You're a genuine psychologist. If I cared what other people thought, I wouldn't be spending my time role-playing. In fact, I probably wouldn't even be posting on an online message board. It's what I think that matters, and I think Magic the Gathering is on the same level as other popular cardgames, such as, for example, the Pok
