Kalfears Jade Empire Review (no spoilers)

Yeah, it's weird, all this talk about loading times. A PC might have loading times, but to me, consoles are the ones without loading times!

My PS2 doesn't have any loading times worth mentioning. I just put in the DVD, pick up the hand control, and 10 seconds later I'm playing the game. Same with my friend's Gamecube. How come the Xbox has long loading times? Does it get better if you transfer your games to the harddrive?

Ps. I remember playing Pool of Radiance on my Commodore 64.. Now THAT's loading times!

I don't mind the loading time because I play it off my hard drive. Great game just finish open palm and I started with close fist but I couldn't keep focus. The

mother

was the hardest part. After that I started over.

They needed one more town I was looking forward too phoenix gate. Plus the place you play on the demo. maybe close fist? chapters 4,5,6,7(4 hours to play) was just too short and felt rushed. Not as bad as K2 but still i have feeling alot of things where cut out. lack time or didn't fit the story. I was surpise about the twist just alittle it looked too obvious.

Xbox might take longer but ps2 and gc couldn't handle this game.

Guys, verify one thing for me please. Is this the typical 'BioEvil' or something more vile and disgusting. Will this whet my appetite for manipulative evil? Or is it just lame thuggish 'piss everyone off and damned be their possible usefulness' again? Because I remember playing through KotOR, using people so I'd get the most armor/monies/experience, and then being evil to them when I was done. But I'd get Lightside bonuses as I used them. That kinda sucked.

IMO, the "evil" dialogue choices weren't overly inspired. It seemed to me that I was acting like a thug picking most of the choices.

I think I'll be buying a Gamecube instead of an Xbox for now then. >_<

It was still a great game. I was just trying to say not to expect something radically different from the evil they portrayed in KOTOR.

I was underwhelmed by the game. Especially when you consider just how long it's been worked on.

Short absolutely - huge laugh when someone suggested that you should walk everywhere to make it last longer..

Linear - moreso than an FF game which most people consider the very definition of linear. The fact the game had a world map of sorts and so few locations on it gave you the feeling there really should be more there.

Story predictable and suffering from the usual Bioware failing of trying to write a story with a twist and then putting in so many hints you would have to be seriously oblivious not to see it.

The usual you are the chosen one again, only this time taken to extremes.

Combat was a big let down. NPCs either suck, or they sit in the corner and boost your abilities. Only having one active NPC at a time felt like a HUGE step back again.

Possibly the worst were the closed fists and open palm. What was supposed to be a phillosophy became the same old good/evil.

Closed fist was especially off base being more about abject cruelty rather than not accepting the position you were born to.

The NPC's were so/so. Although they felt more like an interlude than part of the game because you only had one at a time and they were effectlively useless. Chatting to the NPC's felt more like a mini game than anything organic.

It's not a bad game, but it is a disapointing game. Not as disapointing as Fable, but not far off.

Character creation has been reduced to it's bare minimum. Conversation skills are derived from those three stats and there are no skills to speak of outside of modifying styles.

The character skins are just that, different "heads" with gender being the only difference.

I have to agree with Volourn.  Bioware is pretty much dead now.  Deals like this kills development studios.

Hey guys.

I'm totally thinking it's the end times.

Volo keeps saying things that make me nod my head, and say 'This guy has a level head on his shoulders.' and he's not...like...rabid. Maybe he got his shots or just started taking his medication again.

I personally think Volo just been drinking heavily! heheh

Yas should have seen one of his/her posts on Bioware forums!!! *grins, Volo knows which one, LOL*

Seriously though, While I dont always agree with Volo, he/she definately isnt some rabid fanboi either. He/she makes you actually "Think" when you debate with him/her. Not just spout nonsence.

Course having said all that, K2 is still more mature then JE :p

Volourn - Desiger/Writer

The one called Volourn has been a proud resident of Canada since his birth, 27 years ago. He has played CRPGs for the majority of his life, and is an avid contributor to the online CRPG scene. His real name is Ted, and when not using his PC, Volourn likes to frustrate his friends, watch soap operas and write. Volourn is strongly against ugly people sharing their photos on the Internet, and he mostly works on the design aspects of the module. Volourn's favourite Fallout memory is his first few attempts at the Glow, where the poor (very unprotected) fellow automatically faced death and was forced to go back to an ancient save-game to proceed. He learnt his lesson, and now carries anti-radiation items everywhere he goes in Fallout, like a paranoid packrat.

So he really is male :p"
