FaramirK
I started Japanese about a year ago, but I learn languages slowly, as real life rarely lets me do much for pleasure for an extended time. Forum browsing between patients tides me over to the weekends. :D Excuse my obvious sudden fascination, but what does Blacksad mean in French? Or is it an animorph of a french name, like Catsby would be in English?
Darth Incredulous
I always thought Dutch was a mix of German, English and Norwegian myself, those three being the languages I speak to some degree. Some entire (albeit moderately short) sentences in Dutch can sound exactly as if they were spoken in Norwegian... Maybe Dutch sounds like a cross between English, German and whatever other language you happen to speak, regardless... I pretty much understood that Dutch sentence fine, in any case. I also got the meaning of the French lines that have appeared here so far, even though I don't speak a word of it. But the only Russian back there I could understand, was the name... That's enough off-topic rambling. I fear I may have partly instigated it, for that I apologize. I agree it's a shame European comics aren't as popular on a larger scale. I know there is a big tradition for it, particularly in France, even though I'm not very well versed in the field of comics myself. I do know what I like, however, and Kyla, your stuff is great! I also fully second FaramirK's verdict on your Exile. You have a really good way with expressions and character depth!
Saraya
Great this is. I speak Dutch too, the Belgian kind tho. :D (Spammy post *smacks the self*)
Kyla Carth
I think it's only he character's name (the detective cat)... maybe it's to show that he is kind of a dark and somewhat depressed character...
Roger the Sith
I like your Carth, Kyla. Have you sketched all the characters?
metadigital
There is no reason that European graphic novels can't and won't be as big as manga. Manga was an obscure geek niche market about ten years ago, virtually unknown outside Japan. The main thing I like about manga is the ludicrous amount of frames per second. (The plots seem as diverse as those in Bollywood films, i.e. NOT. " ) Your artwork is excellent, Kyla. I had never heard of these european comics until you mentioned them: do they extend into animation, as well? English borrowed about 50 percent of French words once. When I have to fill in some French papers and I don't know the word, I usually "Frenchify" an English word and it usually hits the spot. Kyla Carth
I'd like to sketch all the characters! even if I prefer the "features" of some (carth, Mira, Atton, Exile, Revan) than others (Disciple, canderous)! And I'd like to say these comics where also animated series or so, but in France most animation movies and series are original scenarios or the same anime or american animation series you get in the states, for instance, but translated... maybe one day these comics will also be found elsewhere, but for the moment it's not the case... Maybe as you say it will be like mangas, it will pop out and become a huge success...
Roger the Sith
Thank You for your reply! :D Are they wearing suits or uniforms? Carth's isn't orange, is it? BTW, comics should be sold as PDF files on CDs, with different translations.

Kyla Carth
@roger the sith: they are police uniforms of the beginning of the 20th century, and no, Carth's will not be orange, for heaven's sake! He'd be fired right away!!!
Roger the Sith
LOL. At least back then he had a sense of taste. What are their ranks? Is Carth Atton's superior?
Darth Incredulous
He'd be fired right away!!! Even better, they could set fire to the darned thing. Alright, alright, have him take it off first. That wasn't any better...
Mandalore Tim
do either of them beat up an Irishman? with those adorable clubs from the time :D Just eh a question. Will there be no more if you land that comic contract?
Roger the Sith
...an Irishman HAH! That is really funny! You don't see it much on the streets anymore though. Where I live, they only "fall down the stairs" at the station. LOL. Mace is funny too. A SW murder mystery would be a great idea -- KotOR Noir. Who is the hero in the detective comic, by the way? Kaftan Barlast
I find the Mira picture a tad creepy. I wont get into details why but, yah.
