Well, I don't complain about that one because I won't be playing it. 😄

Haven't played GTAV either, and still don't feel the mood to do so. RDR2 was the exception, because I'm digging wild west theme very much, but still it was clear as day how dated R* approach to modern gameplay is... it just doesn't exist. They still make the same game as 20 years ago, just with better graphics.

Well there is one thing, that they always forget to mention when speaking about inflation not affecting game prices. The move from physical to digital. Even if some games are still released physically, the content of the box today is empty. When the games cost 40 EUR, they gave you tons of paper content like manuals maps etc. And all of this cost a lot of money, which they cut to appease shareholders 🤷‍♂️ If I want to have the same content in the box as I had in 2000’s, I have to pay 120EUR + today. Which pretty much covers much more than the inflation 🤷‍♂️

100$ is expensive but GTA6 will be worth it considering the amount of time you will spend on it

Saying all that I never play games on release because of mod development and official patches\fixes

Thats why Im never disappointed with all the games I play, when I play them  they the most stable they can be

And they always on some sort of sales special anyway

Considering that:
i9 9900K = pretty much Ryzen 5 5600/i5 12400 performance
RTX 2080 = pretty much RTX 4060/RX 7600 performance

Looks pretty good. But then nobody's come back from Kuttenberg quite yet and live to tell! Which is the place of a thousand NPCs...

I love Worth a Buy, but he needs a program where the fps counter numbers are a lot larger.  And maybe colored orange.  >.>

Anyway, always tweak manually vs. using those Low/Med/High/Ultra preset buttons - there's almost always some combo of things - some things Low, some things Ultra, some things Med/High, personal graphic preferences/tolerances etc - that make it work while still looking nice. From their spec sheet it doesn't seem like it'd be all that hard to find something that works well enough as long as you're not on truly ancient "gaming" hardware and aren't a mega-fps/ultra fanatic.

I have a weird relationship with GoG. After buying all the old 90's/2000-2008 titles re: O/S compatibility (loved GoG for that purpose), I barely use them. I still like them in theory etc but it's so rare for them to carry a post-2010 game where I'd REALLY want a not-tied to a launcher/drm .exe, for, that I often forget to even look at GoG first anymore.  Like, they never got/added even Stray, alas.

If GoG ever got a drm/launcher-free of FFXV, or Diablo 2, or even 7 Days to Die (req. secure MP server authentication, so extremely unlikely unless they chose to release a SP-only capable version), I'd buy them all again. But they won't. At least not before I'm retirement-home-infirm/dead.

Yay!

Endless Legend and Endless Space 2 are probably their best games, so no surprise they decided to do this.

GOG launched approximately 358 games whose initial releases were in 2024 (...I say it this way specifically to exclude games whose initial releases on other platforms or consoles were a previous year, but then released in 2024 on GOG). They are the following:

Again, sorted by popularity. Some more mainstream titles there, albeit older games. Anyways, doesn't mean anything with regards to your point, I just wanted to check for my own curiosity. Specific to Obsidian, you can see Alpha Protocol near the top of the second list!

GOG launched approximately 358 games whose initial releases were in 2024

I know the first four. I vaguely maybe recognize titles of half a dozen others. That's it. Looking a few random titles up, nothing I'd want to play or care about non-drm self-collecting. And ofc I'm not trying to speak ill of GoG - no one actually expects Square or Activision/Blizzard etc. to put their games there, after all, and if someone loves all the games GoG offers/wants little else beyond those, more power to them - but unfortunately GoG in the long run hasn't been a place for me.

I find Caesar 3 being on that list rather odd, considering I bought C3 from GoG in 2011. It's supposedly the 13th game (out of 56) that I purchased from them. I'd guess the "launch" in 2024 is some slightly updated version but looking at their store page for it, it doesn't look any different - not an HDD edition, no new soundtrack or anything, etc. Probably just some O/S patch. Wonder what their criteria for "launch" is. The last game I purchased from GoG was The Outer Worlds, over 4 years ago.

I see a "2010 GOG Edition" version as well (the only other GOG release for this particular game), but the one under the list I posted above is shown as "2024 GOG PP Edition" and has separate versioning (i.e. the 2010 release's final version is notated as 2.0.0.9 from about 5 years ago, while the 2024's is 1.0.1.0 from a few months ago). What "PP" might stand for, I do not know, and Google doesn't seem to give me any relevant results. "GOG PP Edition" is a funny name, though, which has to count for something. Given that there was a previous GOG release, it probably shouldn't really be included in these results, though.

(e): Oh, duh, "PP" is the "Preservation Program" GOG started not that long ago. It's basically their own souped-up version of the game that's supposed to ensure that it can be run on modern operating systems. So yeah, definitely shouldn't be included. I wonder how many like that are in my list...let's check: four. They are RollerCoaster Tycoon 2, Caesar III, SimCity 3000, and I Have No Mouth and I Must Scream. Okay, so not as many as I expected, doesn't really affect the results all that much. There are more games in this Preservation Program than that, but those four were apparently the only ones that changed significantly enough to warrant the separate/distinct release year notations from any previous releases GOG might have had of them.

Yeah. If nothing else, I would not want to see what these lists would look like for Steam, as I'm sure the GOG lists must dwarf the Steam ones.

Always do! The killers in KCD where shadow and object detail settings. Keep those at high at best, and there's minimal quality loss, but a lot more fps.  Seeing that KCD2 has the same options (Worth A Buy has shown them in a prior video), I know where I'm gonna start out. A week and a half to go! 🥳

By the way, second best rant on the internet. Every time I'm in a bad mood (and/or play a game that treats me like a toddler.....) 😄

More importantly Kingdome Come2 is coming to GOG in "spring". WIll happily wait for that release (and hopefully play the first game until then).

Wormie I still cant believe you havent played KC:D1

I was under the impression it was mandatory for all Slav gamers  to have played this game???? You really need to play KC:D1, its a fantastic game with excellent combat mechanics

I would say its got the second most realistic combat mechanics out of any game I have played and only Exanima  is more realistic

GOG, is my prefer launcher, and I quite happy they added Galaxy - I find downloading and updating games through it easier, and I also manage other storefronts through it.

But yes, unfortunately, GOG doesn't secure enough new releases for me to buy from the regularly. Even with smaller titles they tend to get them slower, and they usually don't announce what will add to their storefront and when. KC:D2 might be the first time I see GOG announce release ahead of time like that. So many times I bought game on Steam only for it to get GOG release later.

And yeah, most publisher seem to avoid non-DRM releases - I was so disappointed when Hitman2016 released on GOG briefly (got pulled back due to backlash), but was still tied to online server.

Yeah, me neither. It's installed on my PC, but waiting for its turn (with Avowed coming out it will probably still be some time before I get to it). I didn't think my PC could run it well when it first released, and while it's been on top of my "to play" games since I build a new rig I never got around to playing it. I think I am aging.

They need the DRM at least in the first few months. It has a *huge* influence on the revenue, even if people don't want to believe it. And GOG games are regularly shared on you know what sites.

I was slightly disappointed to hear about the delay until I realised northern hemisphere spring is like, as little as one month after the game's release date? That's basically a simultaneous release for my purposes. I too have not played KCD1 despite being able to see the Collector's Edition box right in front of me right now. :ninja:

I'll always opt for GOG if possible. And if not, I'll often just skip any game that isn't one of my very few must-haves. Games on the "maybe" list - I'll throw out Dave the Diver as an example - turn into a firm do-not-buy unless available on GOG, or possibly as an Xbox Play Anywhere title.

Yeah, I personally don't particularly mind if a game has DRM for a few months to half a year - even if it's Denuvo. Mind you, I'm not going to buy it while it has Denuvo, but I understand its use for that initial release period, since initial release is supposedly where games lose the most revenue to piracy. But I very much like to see games eventually get a DRM or effectively DRM-free release. I prefer GOG for its actually fully DRM-free approach, but basic Steam-wrapping can be disabled by pretty much anyone if they look up how, and that's what's typically used for most singleplayer games on Steam.

Ubisoft is one of a few companies that seem to never remove Denuvo from their games no matter how old the games in question get. I wouldn't play, much less buy, any Ubisoft games in the first place, but it's nice of them to to enforce that I don't.

I love GoG and prefer it for purchases, but Galaxy still sucks for me. I mean it works, but it has some weird updating error that never seems to get fixed. It's also just not that easy to navigate.

But I still use it for a couple reasons:

1. I love the preservation of classic titles

2. My son has taken over my Steam account.

More AAA hardware "lifting" - another "RT required".  I'd wild guess it'll be kind like Indy tho, where you could turn a few certain settings down/low and it'd at least run ok on 8gb vram without full pathtracing bling on.
doom-the-dark-ages-system-requirements-t

I also saw the FF7-Rebirth requires RTX gpu, not because of RT specifically but because DX12-Ultimate (something about shader AI version maybe), which GTX can't/doesn't support. I don't care about either of these games, but yeah - here comes the generation of "upgrade your rig you peons" game releases. Even beyond GPU nonsense, my next rig is definitely going to have 128 (system) RAM in it. 😛

Doom: The Dark Ages is also 80€ lol. Looks like I'm not buying games on release anymore.

That’s pretty much the way, how ot works for me. Which means, the only games, which I have on Steam is Assetto Corsa, Assetto Corsa Competizione, Counter-Strike, Half-Life 2 and half of Europa Universalis IV (which I regret now, but it seemed Paradox will never release this on on GOG).
