It was brilliant, it captured the reality of the trials and tribulations of the journey to the West in an accurate and evocative way Very sad ending I am watching lots of current series that include all the latest Law and Order, Chicago's, SWAT, Hunting Party and a new UK crime drama called Mobland Then Im re-watching older series like The Shield and The Closer I am also really enjoying S2 Last of Us, its getting lots of criticism but its got some interesting factions and new developments like the spores in the air that can effect you and not just a bite They need to find a way to replicate Ellies immunity or the world is doomed "Abashed the devil stood and felt how awful goodness is and saw Virtue in her shape how lovely: and pined his loss” John Milton "We don't stop playing because we grow old; we grow old because we stop playing.” - George Bernard Shaw "What counts in life is not the mere fact that we have lived. Bartimaeus Posted May 15 Posted May 15 I actually watched the whole first season of that show. I believe I mildly liked exactly one episode and disliked or hated the rest, though looking at the list of episodes, I don't remember which one exactly I liked...but I do remember the ones I hated. Lexx Posted May 16 Posted May 16 I wonder if there will be less episodes about "huge waves of monsters attacking a small group of people" now, or if they keep doing that stuff. "only when you no-life you can exist forever, because what does not live cannot die."

LadyCrimson Posted May 21 Author Posted May 21 (edited) I liked that cat episode of Love/Death/Robots. shocker, right. I watched a couple others, didn't care for them, the usual. Started watching Bullet Train Explosion, it looks pretty good for the genre, but then I was distracted 1/3 in and haven't gotten back to it. Before bed, I've begun watching the old series Castle via Prime. I never watched it before, only knew of it/clips. I think hubby did watch some of it before so I might've seen a random episode years ago. Anyway, I'm up to ssn1/eps. 8. It's ok. I wish there was more focus on the crime part of episodes. The intriguing thing to me is that even tho I'm not super-into Castle (yet), I rarely FFWD and it mostly keeps my attention. More evidence that for me, certain pacing, camera work, dialogue setups and other patterns in modern tv/films is a factor re: my short attention span/dislikes. I will say that I think I greatly prefer Nathan Fillion as Mal over Castle. Mal felt like he had a bit more substance behind the sarcasm. So far, Castle is just the "entitled rich but lovable goldheart" dufus. Maybe he grows up a bit later. Edited May 21 by LadyCrimson “Things are as they are. Lexx Posted May 21 Posted May 21 Thought the new season of Love Death Robots was better than the ones before. But it's still kinda at a point where you are like "ok" ... That music video episode was a nice idea, though. "only when you no-life you can exist forever, because what does not live cannot die."
LadyCrimson Posted May 21 Author Posted May 21 ^ The series always was,for me, just like Black Mirror, hit and miss. Like 1-3 episodes a fair bit, most "ok-meh", 1-3 "ick." Oh, and when I said cat episode, I meant the blue animated cat vs. devil one. I just watched another bit with a more realistic orange cat animation. I didn't like it as much. “Things are as they are. Sarex Posted May 21 Posted May 21 The orange cat one is a prequel to the 3 robots episode from s1. "because they filled mommy with enough mythic power to become a demi-god" - KP
Lexx Posted May 21 Posted May 21 I want a sequel to that The Rift episode from s1. IMO one of the best episodes and it carried everything a lot. "only when you no-life you can exist forever, because what does not live cannot die."
rjshae Posted May 22 Posted May 22 (edited) I'm watching Orphan Black: Echoes on Hoopla w/ Krysten Ritter. It's a pretty nice service; all I need is a library card to check out an episode. Edited May 22 by rjshae "It has just been discovered that research causes cancer in rats."

Setup and reveal mostly taken from the Outer Limits Remake episode Tempests, so of course it was good. Anything Outer Limits is good. No mind to think. No will to break. No voice to cry suffering.

Zoraptor Posted May 24 Posted May 24 (edited) Alexa, play me "In the Arms of an Angel" by Sarah McLachlan. Oh who am I kidding, play me "Dancing on the Ceiling" by Lionel Richie instead. Amazon's WoT will stand the test of time as an example of how not to do an adaptation. Indeed, it will stand the test of time for how not to do a TV series of any kind. It might be easy to blame the showrunner- and obviously some stuff like giving his boyfriend a prominent role* was his fault- but the flaws in the show are in RoP and Citadel as well. Huge budgets, and they all look like they were shot with half of it with terrible fanfic (ironically even for Citadel, since it's a new IP) level plotting and dialogue. Very, very obvious focus group checkboxing whether it made sense or not and the two fantasy entries had showrunners who were very obviously and very, very predictably out of their depth. Seems they've got rid of the exec responsible for those appointments, and they should not be getting a job anywhere else, ever. The contrast with the really rather good Fallout could not be more stark. *he literally had more air time than Mat in S3. Edited May 24 by Zoraptor
PK htiw klaw eriF Posted May 24 Posted May 24 I have never seen an episode of WoT, but of even Hurlshort is hating on it I know it's got to be bad. 2 "Akiva Goldsman and Alex Kurtzman run the 21st century version of MK ULTRA." - majestic "you're a damned filthy lying robot and you deserve to die and burn in hell." - Bartimaeus "Without individual thinking you can't notice the plot holes." - InsaneCommander "Just feed off the suffering of gamers." - Malcador "You are calling my taste crap." -Hurlshort "thankfully it seems like the creators like Hungary less this time around." - Sarex "Don't forget the wakame, dumbass" -Keyrock "Are you trolling or just being inadvertently nonsensical?' -Pidesco "we have already been forced to admit you are at least human" - uuuhhii "I refuse to buy from non-woke businesses" - HoonDing "feral camels are now considered a pest" - Gorth "Melkathi is known to be an overly critical grumpy person" - Melkathi "Oddly enough Sanderson was a lot more direct despite being a Mormon" - Zoraptor "I found it greatly disturbing to scroll through my cartoon's halfing selection of genitalias." - Wormerine "I love cheese despite the pain and carnage." - ShadySands
rjshae Posted May 24 Posted May 24 I have watched WoT and it was okay entertainment. The problem always was that WoT dragged on for 15 books, and there's almost no way the series could have lasted that long. I'd rather see something like Jemisin's wonderful three volume Broken Earth trilogy in live action form. "It has just been discovered that research causes cancer in rats."
Zoraptor Posted May 24 Posted May 24 (edited) 6x8 hour seasons should have been enough; there's a lot of condensation of storylines that could be done after book 6; plus New Spring could be entirely ignored. And a decent amount before that, no need to have the three functionally identical fights against the same guy that ended the first three books. Rafe Judkins was not the guy to do that successfully though*. Not entirely his fault though, he was definitely told he had to have a 'mystery' element as to who the Dragon was per Amazon's Metrics and in some ways having Rosamund Pike was unfortunate since she had to be kept front and center even when it made no sense narratively. *Indeed, for anyone wondering how badly it was run: they accidentally brought back a character in S2E1 who had literally literally died died in the S1 finale, without even a 'somehow Palpatine returned'. The real world reason? Two different writing teams. Not only did writing team 1 not tell writing team 2 that they'd killed Loial off, writing team 2 didn't know because, uh, they hadn't watched the previous season finale. Can't blame that on executive meddling or covid, that's just gross incompetence. Edited May 24 by Zoraptor 1
Hurlshort Posted May 25 Posted May 25 (edited) It was a trainwreck from the moment Perrin killed his wife in the first episode. I mean, they departed from the book on so many levels, why did they even bother calling it Wheel of Time? The characters were all a mess. I understand that the book gets messy as well, but the first one is a pretty solid introduction to the world, and they didn't need to manufacture a bunch of other garbage to make it engaging. Plus the Trollocs looked dumb. edit: I think the real shame is that Amazon has been hitting it out of the park on so many other IP's. Reacher, The Boys, Good Omens, Jack Ryan...all of them did a good job with the source material. Meanwhile WoT was basically my High School reading list, and they butchered it out of the gate. Lexx Posted May 25 Posted May 25 I managed to watch 2 episodes of it and found it extremely generic and boring. Crazy they managed to get 3 seasons out of this. "only when you no-life you can exist forever, because what does not live cannot die."
Lexx Posted May 26 Posted May 26 Just finished the last of us season 2. I liked it, but man, that ending... and now we're waiting like 2 years or what for season 3? Modern tv show production schedules are so f'd. "only when you no-life you can exist forever, because what does not live cannot die."
Amentep Posted May 30 Posted May 30 I cannot - yet I must. How do you calculate that? At what point on the graph do "must" and "cannot" meet? Yet I must - but I cannot! ~ Ro-Man
rjshae Posted June 1 Posted June 1 Looks like the zombie theme isn't quite dead yet. "It has just been discovered that research causes cancer in rats."
