Well, I hope he returns here, as I would love to get his thoughts on retiring to that part of the country as I am hoping to retire to Wyoming about two and a half years from now. If any of you live in WY or know it well, would love to PM you about living there. :)

Ill get to retire in just 13 more years. I dont want to move South and live amongst the rednecks, and I dont want to live in a place that has snow...so I guess its Mexico for me.

Looks like it's going to bring a spellbook (merge?) and have a few abilities that focus on breath, I'm guessing it's variable depending on which path taken. No idea if it will be Shifter compatible, imo would be pretty glaring that the mythic path built around shape-shifting doesn't work well with the class built around it.

So the patch is out and I've checked out Gold Dragon

1. Gold Dragon form now works with Shifter's Fury so you can now get multiple attacks. It does not seem to work with Wildshape specific feats though. Given some of the spell synergy (ie +3 attacks for a minute - Gold Dragon form only), I imagine a Gold Dragon Shifter would actually want to run as a Fiendflesh to take advantage of aspects.

2. The breath stuff is a selectable special ability every mythic rank, with an extra at 10. There's 10 options, 6 standard, and 2 each for regular and corrupted. They seem pretty good but with the breath being a standard action you may have better **** to do that blast it. If my reading is right it can be really strong, with a corrupted dragon hitting for 35 d8 +35 d8 on living enemies with a relatively big dc.

3. A third level 10 spellbook has hit the game. It's ok, there's no unique spells outside of 8,9, and 10 and it's direct damage, summons, and some personal buffs. Notably, you can keep merged spells from your previous path if you merged.

Got kind of bored with Friendship Is Magic playthrough and made a lich... it's so hilariously OP that I'm considering to increase the difficulty. I killed the gold dragon at level 10. But Repurpose alone is enough to solo the game. I ran around Wintersun with a dragon, a bunch of smilodons, giant trees and two meatball demons.

I could swear that sometimes the game rigs the dice rolls. I've been through battles making dozens of attacks and never getting higher than an 11. It's weird and very improbable.

That would be true, but computers cannot really generate truly random numbers, as such there's always a mathematical function involved - and there are better or worse ones at generating numbers. If whatever Owlcat used is pretty bad - and it would seem to be, going by my experience as well - it is neither weird nor improbable. You'd need specialized hardware for truly random numbers.

No mind to think. No will to break. No voice to cry suffering.

I took down Mephistopheles (who's actually kind of pathetic compared to HotU) at the start of Act 5 and gained two levels at once. Then a couple of random locations later I'm completely maxed out without even going to main story dungeons. Nothing to play for anymore. I want my xp.

Finished AZata run, was overall very meh. Majority of azata spells were redundant with my bard stuff

Now lich run is starting to get meh as well, then again the entire Act 5 is a waste of time

Not to mention apparently Tar Baphon himself freed himself not long after closing of Worldwound and shot literal nukes from his hand, the game's lich is really lame in comparison.

Doing another play-through, this time with an aasimar crusader cleric. At this point I'm a little bummed that I never got to have Woljif rejoin the party. I thought I did everything right, but he never showed up.

I took the Legend route of giving up the Angel levels, so I'm at cleric 20/ranger demon hunter 16. The character now does a cr*p-tonne of damage even to heavy-duty demons, almost rivalling and sometimes surpassing Lann. Hopefully I can complete the end game without having the Angel levels.

I love the Fortress of the Faithful spell, which I apparently got when I was treading the Angel path, then didn't get taken away when I switched to Legend. Hmm... a bug perhaps? With that spell active my party often barely gets a scratch, and it lasts for hours too. Another favorite is Storm of Justice, which often does heavy damage to multiple buffed out demons.

Just raising this thread from the annals of history. As mentioned in the what are you playing now thread, I picked up this game again and will probably need more than once to go search for info in this thread.

Before I invest too much time, anyone got good suggestions for a starting class to turn into a lich? First game started out as a sorcerer, but I think I would prefer something where it makes more sense to boost intelligence rather than charisma. Maybe playing the Dhampir (sp?) race too for maximum undeadness

Sage sorcerer, I think, uses intelligence. There's always wizard but I don't like juggling spell slots but maybe cruoromancer would be the most thematically appropriate with a Dhampir.

If you're using mods, I'd reccomend the Arcanist. It can raise DC and caster level on demand which is pretty great for a caster, but you need a mod that adds Quick Study for it to be where it needs to be.

There's also Ley Line Guardian Witch as an alternative to the Sage Sorc, imo it's got a better early game with hexes and by the time you start spellbook merge stuff you're just ****ing everything up with busted Lich spells and not needing the better sorcerer spell list.

That also happened to me, Woljif left my party and I never found him again

Its a known bug that some people experience

Decided to launch the game again on a whim, noting that I had a save that was still in the tutorial dungeon from years back. Made a little bit of progress, tried out the turn-based combat, then quit because I got annoyed that the entire party only got one chance to make an skill check (that is, it only checks once against the highest skill modifier in the party).

Someday I may look for a mod to try to resolve that little bugbear.

I ended up with a Dahmpir Sage Sorcerer. Only made it to Neathholm and I need to do some mental adjustments. Trying to make my old sorcerer fight with a scythe was of course folly (even if thematically cool for a Lich), so not bothering with strength this time. Intelligence, yes, dexterity, some (enough not to shoot my own foot with a cross bow) and some charisma (just for the low bar persuation checks, not because a Dhampir wins any pageants) and the leftover points in wisdom. Not because he is very wise, but for the tiny boost to will saves. Not bothering with physical combat feats either, only things that increses the DC of spells get considered for now. Focusing on Necromancy first (not that the lowbie necromancy spells are useful per se, ray of enfeeblement my butt). I really cant remember what the Lich spell book adds to the table, but I'll sort that out when time comes for spell book merging. Looking forward to having my own pyramid again p

Well, akshually... while scythe is not the best weapon class to pick for them, melee Liches are ungodly powerful. All the bugfixing made fauchards way too feat heavy to pick as weapons of choice, they still do great with Grave Singer, and a lof of the spells you get can't be saved or resisted against, so you don't lose too much from not focusing on your spellcasting abilities. AC double dipping has also been fixed a long time ago, but you'd still benefit a lot from starting out as Scaled Fist Monk.

Probably want to go with the Legend path though. It's hard to say no to all the extra levels and feats you get. Makes your melee power go much more brrrrrrrrrr than anything you'd get from finishing the Lich path. Class progression is pretty much what you'd expect - Scaled Fist as first level (AC buff from CHA, extra attack with staves, the works), then Sorceror until you can do Dragon Disciple, then go Eldritch Knight and round out with whatever else appeals to you.

If you don't mind hiring a mercenary instead of using companions, having a Skald is a hoot and a half, unless you give your character a class that already has access to rage powers.

No mind to think. No will to break. No voice to cry suffering.

Dang it... now I'm at that cross roads again. Not really moved much past the character creation screen yet in my current game. At least not far enough for me to not reconsider my choices )

My first game was a barbarian/trickster/various fighter variations monster doing the legend path to level 40. He came, he saw, he demolished enemies between his butt cheeks by flexing them.

I do have this weird fetish for completing a game as a scythe wielding Lich though

Edit: In my previous game (uncompleteted game), I turned Camelia into a bard, Fire Dancer. Just because I wanted her to do some hot dancing for me iirc! 😇

Cammy is great.

Oh yeah me love new forum software, long time

Particularily her quest at the end, when she kills all her servants and you have her in the middle of the guts and viscera because wanton slaughter really gets her going.

Outside of trying to make your party Unfair viable* (as in playing on Unfair the whole time from start to finish), she's actually one of the better companions - Spirit Hunter is a really good Shaman subclass. Offers good support, decent martial prowess and hexes - and she doesn't run away when you go down the more evil paths of the game - well, of course she doesn't.

*Not a problem of Camelia alone. The various patches of the game introduced sweeping nerfs to many mechanics that were, while broken, a staple to make some companions really good to use even on Unfair. Some survived the nerfs, more or less. Ember went from deleting endgame bosses in a single turn to "only" dealing upwards of 600 damage per turn, so there's nothing wrong with bringing her along, but others not so much. There's a hilarious exception in Wenduag - with the new classes she does really well as Sharpshooter, if you don't mind having to babysit her, like, a lot, and with Lann being a waste of a party slot in this day and age, that's a win, I guess. If, uh, you don't mind having Wenduag in the party. shrugz

Good old times of double dipping AC gains, pet levelling being bugged, Crossblooded bloodlines stacking dragon element damage buffs, Greater Vital Strike damage being multiplied by critical hits, Geniekind stacking and Loremasters being able to pull the wildest feats out of their butts. The issue is not that you can't make companions work on Unfair - epsecially when you play one of the stronger mythic paths, an Angel with a merged spellbook will, even with all the nerfs, still pretty much win the game, but you need to get to that point, and the journey is that much less arduous if you take properly min-maxed mercenaries. Playing Unfair is an excercise in making the game as easy as possible on your patience.

Can't really recommend it. Much better to just play on Core Rules and have fun with the game.

No mind to think. No will to break. No voice to cry suffering.

Well that sent me down an unexpected rabbit hole and I learned that the romances give buffs. Wenduag's is pretty good, too!
