The All Things Political Topic - A politician needs the ability to foretell what is going to happen tomorrow, next week, next month, and next year. And to have the ability afterwards to explain why it didn’t happen

And we can  blame the left for this because of all the fake accounts and bots that exist on Twitter, the numbers of substantive users are almost impossible to discern. I dont blame Musk at all

And this is definitely one of those times where its the lefts fault because  most Conservatives have been banned from Twitter. Well done Alan, this is all your fault :p

Have you opened twitter lately? Because that isn't true in anyway.

In case of Musk, it seem that he has multiple time breached his contract with twitter and according to Musk breaching contracts is one of the worst offence people can do. Although I think for him this and his political tweets lately have just been form of marketing as he is building his image as person who stands against leftist, so that people who have vowed that they will never buy electric car and see fossil fuels as way of future are now switching their cars to Tesla in order to own liberals. I mean conservatives are one of the biggest untapped market for electric cars in USA and Musk seems that found way to get millions of them buy Tesla as their next car.

best thing for liberals would be a trump 2024. democrats is terrible at voting, but they voted for not-trump in 2020. would millennials, who bare managed 50% voting in 2020 in spite o' their universal outrage the previous four years, vote not-desantis not-nikki haley? wouldn't count on it. insofar as a future President is concerned, the best thing for dems is a trump 2024 run... second best is gop choosing not-trump and then trump destroying the base in retaliation for the disloyalty done unto him.

trump is arguable the only good thing going for the dems in 2024.

HA! Good Fun!

ps trumpism is already part o' the the new gop faith and fury based politics. imagine trump gets abducted by aliens tomorrow or pulls an ambrose bierce and disappears in mexico, never to be seen again. such won't change the problems for fractured democrats needing deal with an opposition party unified by outrage and grievance... unless trump manages to set the gop on fire before he disappears.

I would love to see what would happen if trump tried to run third party in 2024. It might affect votes down ballot too?

More 737 MAX shenanigans from Boeing. They may have to cancel the next MAX if they don't get regulatory approval real quick!

I particularly like this quote from the PR guy: "Safety remains the driving factor in this effort". Nothing says safety like... wanting to rush through certification so you don't have to comply with updated standards (and can on-the-cheap pilot training by using the same layout). Clearly Boeing has learnt the lessons of their previous success at finagling certification, not installing alert systems and not requiring significant pilot retraining. Whether they've also left critical information out of the flight manual and plan to blame dead pilots for not reading something that didn't exist again, who knows.

Even if they don't care about the people they killed the proximal reason Boeing is in a hole currently is how badly those decisions effected their company. And if anyone is wondering exactly when the FAA warned them they were unlikely to meet requirements it was June 2021 so over a year ago now.

Boeing is such a great example of beancountering a company into disaster- why on earth do you take over a ~failed company with a highly successful one, then bring in all the practices that lead to the failure of that failing company? Guess it all looked great on a balance sheet for 20 years as you coasted on prior successes and padded your share portfolios before, uh, running it into the ground in spectacular fashion. The response shows that they haven't actually learnt a thing- and you can tell how very annoyed the board is by this because they, er, increased the retirement age for CEOs so their current one can stay on.

Best thing which can happen is them being told to asterisk off so they can stop trying to hammer the square peg of a plane designed 60 fricking years ago into the round hole of what is actually needed. And if they haven't got everyone with a scintilla of design talent working on an actual 737 replacement at this point... maybe their highly successful new space rocket could do with some live crew and the board could volunteer?

https://www.nytimes.com/2022/07/06/books/book-ban-librarians.html?smtyp=cur&smid=tw-nytbooks

As highly visible and politicized book bans have exploded across the country, librarians — accustomed to being seen as dedicated public servants in their communities — have found themselves on the front lines of an acrimonious culture war, with their careers and their personal reputations at risk.

They have been labeled pedophiles on social media, called out by local politicians and reported to law enforcement officials. Some librarians have quit after being harassed online. Others have been fired for refusing to remove books from circulation.

In many communities, putting books on the shelves has become a polarizing act and has “turned librarians into this political pawn,” said Ami Uselman, the director of library and media services for Round Rock Independent School District, in Texas.

“You can imagine our librarians feel scared,” she said, “like their character was in question.”

Gorth would you support the banning of books that encourage or support criminality? And I dont mean culture wars  "criminality ", for example books about an Islamic Extremist and how he personally built bombs and killed people ?

That would be great actually, it would separate Trumpism from the GOP and we can focus on proper Conservative policies

And it wouldnt win but it would weaken the GOP in the next election and then most people would return to the GOP because the alternative of being governed by the Democrats indefinitely wouldnt be worth supporting a Trumpism alternative

I probably wouldn't ban it, but like other things, I would restrict access to it. You don't sell porn magazines and uzi's to 12 year olds for a reason. Doesn't mean those things don't have a place, but but it is intended for audiences who knows how to handle it.

I think it's less of an urban legend and more of a salvation myth, like if you work hard for little and give all the rich ****ers everything, eventually you will see the gates of heaven receive a middling amount of wealth from the luxury the rich enjoy. Personally I don't know anyone who believes in it.

Was effectively a thing at my wife's hometown.

Been going on as long as I've known her, when conservative groups were advocating that any and all books that had any LGBT content were inherently sexual in nature and needed to be removed from any public library. Was interesting as Taylor's uncle (a Vietnam war veteran that had health issues related to Agent Orange) went up with a few others to basically talk about how this is dumb and you shouldn't ban books.

Thats true, the Democrats have shown us the best way to get things done is to ram things through Congress

Only problem is then the other side does it and ignores getting bipartisan support

It's interesting because it seems part of the reality of Obamacare is that the Democrats openly came to the table not just trying to "ram whatever they want through" and started with already offering concessions in hopes of getting bipartisan support because they wanted to make sure they were not just appealing to the people that directly voted for them (including using Romney's Massachusetts health care bill as a starting point).

The hilarity of the second image is that, knowing what they know now, he feels they'd still reach out for bipartisan support (to me this is completely baffling thing to say, but here we are). So I feel there's a few things that could be learned... and it seems like there's a Democratic contingent that obstinately refuses to actually take one of the lessons (???).

One of the most telling things for me is that the Democratic leadership still consistently talks about how a strong Republican Party is very important, yet I'm unaware of any such commentary that ever comes from the Republicans at least in the past couple decades.
