Some people on Codex are suggesting that this invasion of Ukraine will mean Finland will be " rushing " to join NATO

What do you think?

I imagine Finland will only be at risk with Russia once the Baltic states have gone down. But I think they should join NATO anyway.

This article made me laugh when it mentions " China repeated calls for talks to resolve the crisis in Ukraine on Thursday while refusing to criticize Russia’s attack, and in a move that could help reduce the impact of Western sanctions against Moscow "

Of course China wont criticize Russia, they have less human rights interests than Russia and their intentions around  hegemony is much worse than Russia

We dont need China to be involved in sanctions and I never thought they ever would

Looks like this is a power struggle and others observe how will the Western capital powerhouses respond.

Yes and Venezuela, Cuba and Bolivia dont care either but once again you dont need countries like this to make sanctions be effective . Thats not how the real strength of the global economy works ...you know that

The problem with Finland joining is I wonder if it wouldnt provoke Russia again which we want to avoid ?

That's a dangerously simple assertion, considering Oil popped 9%+ to over 101USD today so far

US is currently a net importer of oil.

The strength is effective as log as others believe you are strong.

I would not be surprised if the Afghan weakness shown by US was one of catalusts for this 'insane' decision.

Others are checking where the boundries are right now in the post Covid, weak globalized economy period. Lets hope it will end here... And soon...

It may increase support for NATO option, but it is unlikely that Finland will join in this decade

I suspect China's "game" in this, is to see how much force the west is willing to commit. I.e. boots on the ground and airplanes involved fighting over Ukraine. If none, they might conclude Taiwan is ripe for the taking now while everybody else is busy looking at Ukraine and the response wasn't scary (by Chinese standards)

So far EU is not willing to reach out for SWIFT and blocking resources

https://www.reuters.com/business/finance/eu-unlikely-cut-russia-off-swift-now-sources-say-2022-02-24/

None of Western countries is in a position to impose really strong economic sanctions on main flow of cash into Rus economy. That's double edge sword, of which costs they simply cannot bear as otherwise populace tired with covid restrictions will just revolt. Plus, most of the countries are not homogenous in values and beliefs, and the spirit of national pride and patriotism was being effectively killed for conformism and multiculturalism. Our societies do not want to look at war at close, not to mention bear any costs of it i  person. They want to live comfy lives secured by previous generations. No one will grab arms and run to aid Ukraine and fight Russians with real risks of injuries and dying

Seems there are already demands flowing from Russias side (Peskov) , that they are now willing to talk a 'neutral' status of Ukraine which would mean no miliatry capability build up and no NATO

The way I understood it, cutting russia off of SWIFT is dangerous, as it will strengthen their own financial system that they are building up with china for some years already, and it will give them more incentive to disrupt the SWIFT system with cyber attacks.

50 Russians dead as Ukrainian soldiers take back Shastya.

6 Russian planes downed 4 tanks and numerous other hardware destroyed.

Ukraine is doing as expected. Those extra equipment are gonna give the Russians a really hard time.

What I find interesting is how fast it is nowadays. 100 years ago, soldiers would be fighting at the borders, probably for days. Now, 10 hours after begin of the invasion, we see russian helicopters over kiev. We've seen similar already recently in the armenia conflict - the country defenses get disabled in hours.

Yes, there are some "wins" right now, but that really doesn't mean anything yet. The wave of soldiers and ground forces has yet to come...

It gives me a really odd feeling, because if there ever would be a conflict involving german territory again, it will be mere hours till hostile forces are in berlin.

It is interesting to see all the combat footage, although I'm beginning to be of the mind that 50% of what I'm seeing is false.  Is sort of funny sign of the times that some guy seemingly runs to get footage of a bombed airfield for Twitter, heh.

Doesn't seem Ukraine's defenses are all gone, at least from the kills they are claiming.
