Now I have a really strong urge to go check out all the BG1 pics. I think I started with BG2 so I never really spent a lot of time with BG1.

More or less the same - I beat BG2 a few years later (turns out BG1 was a little too hard at that age, big surprise) which was long before I ever beat BG1 (suffice to say, that bard chracter was not a success).

In my dreams, I am not crippled. In my dreams, I dance.

It's a good thing I had more patience (read: less money and thus no choice) when I was young and played BG1 all the way through back in the day. I tried replaying it a few years back and it was a rough experience. First the horrendous save scumming at the beginning when I would get 1-shot by xvarts and wolves until I got to about level 3. Then I got to Nashkel Mines and Nashkel Mines broke me. Those kobold archers can go **** themselves. That's where I gave up.

am recalling a discussion with a bioware developer a few years after bg2 development concluded. the developer mentioned how previous to bg2 development, bio developers (at least the writers and level designers) were required to replay bg1 entire. the developer in question conceded how playing the game were a painful slog until reaching the city of baldur's gate. 'course for the developer the suffering were less 'bout difficulty spikes than it were the widely spaced repetitive encounters and excessive reliance on mindless fed-ex quests, but even so, perhaps you feel better knowing even biowarians, only a short time removed from the initial release o' bg1, had difficulty playing the game w/o it feeling like a scene from ben hur

HA! Good Fun!

I'm the enemy, 'cause I like to think, I like to read. I'm into freedom of speech, and freedom of choice. I'm the kinda guy that likes to sit in a greasy spoon and wonder, "Gee, should I have the T-bone steak or the jumbo rack of barbecue ribs with the side-order of gravy fries?" I want high cholesterol! Well, they didn't say WHEN on the 2nd it would be available.

Having first played BG2 and having regarded it as the pinnacle of cRPG gaming, I found BG1 almost intolerable. It's really a poor game. There's an astonishing amount of aimless wandering around maps that are mostly empty. Bioware were very wise to cut all that pointless walking around from BG2.

I no longer play games at BST release time. They wanted Brexit? Have 'em take their dumb time zone with them as they leave 😛

If I ever made a game, I'd use UNIX times for release date.  Would look much cooler to see "Play it at 1626980400" at the end of a trailer

Besides, we really should institute Western European Time as the timezone with the best acronym.

Unlike the Gamedec demo which even installed, now has turned the Play button into a Purchase button.

Interestingly, the vast majority of my attempts at BG1 ended upon reaching Baldur's Gate.  I hate the city.  Incidentally, this is probably why I'm not much of a fan of BG2 (besides some of the absolutely awful writing.)

Nekataka has killed all my attempts at PoE2 as well.  I guess I just don't like big cities in games.

And I didn't like Humankind
It seems like an improvement over a few things in Endless Legend. I didn't feel as strongly that the game was clicking End Turn for 40 turns until I could produce the next thing and click End Turn for 25 turns. With EL I had a strong feeling that the devs didn't want players to do things or get things done.
With Humankind I have the feeling the devs want us to do things, but they don't know what.
The most interesting part seems to be putting together a "unique" civilization through the traits of advancing each Era. But the actual gameplay you have to go through to do so... not so interesting.
It reminds me a bit of Spore actually.

Back to your favorite stories:

Skyrim Tales of Parenting with Melkathi

We played hide and seek with Lucia before I headed off to Whiterun and what would turn out to be the siege of Whiterun.

When I returned to Solitude, Lucia was gone. Of course my housecarl Jordis had no idea where she was. Or any of the guards (read: I ran all across Solitude where her routine could take her). I talked to Noster Eagle-Eye, who I pay to keep his eye on the girls when they play outside. And I had a stern word with Sofia, after having tried to bribe her with honey nut treats.

Lucia had snuck past the guards at the gate, out of Solitude...

So I went searching for her (console player.moveto refID).

And found her well past Dragonbridge, on the road heading for Whiterun. Seems she got tired waiting for news from the battle and decided to check herself.

"But muuuum..."

"No. You are heading straight home and straight to bed."

There was an Ancient Dragon circling overhead, but even it understood enough to keep well away from angry mum, so it didn't attack.

Seriously. I may have to make a mod to ground her.
