melkathi Posted April 17, 2021 Posted April 17, 2021 Same darkness is in FF6. Pretty much every FF up to 7, the Ogre games. Heck, Ogre has tracks alignment and choices to such extend, it is super easy to be forced into conflict with every person you do not want to fight and wind up in a downward spiral to darkness. One game isn't a genre, it is an example. Unobtrusively informing you about my new ebook (which you should feel free to read and shower with praise).
Keyrock Posted April 17, 2021 Posted April 17, 2021 You want some examples of dark JRPGs? How about pretty much any MegaTen game. MegaTen games get really dark. Not necessarily in a main characters getting killed way, though there's some of that too, but more about exploring some really heavy themes of religion, morality, sacrifice, etc. For a bit of perspective, Persona, which is a MegaTen spinoff, tends to be less dark than the main series, and Persona gets pretty dark at times. Theonlygarby Posted April 17, 2021 Posted April 17, 2021 Yeah I'm not saying none are gritty. Just most of the ones I've played the bad guys are obviously bad and the good guys are obviously good. Persona is also quite dark. And I like the dark ones
Mamoulian War Posted April 17, 2021 Posted April 17, 2021 (edited) Tales of games have pretty dark themes as well, especially it's take on racism in Rebirth and Symphonia. Katphood Posted May 3, 2021 Posted May 3, 2021 After quite a while, I managed to get myself some extra money and it was immediatly spent on games: Cyberpunk 2077: spent some 7 hours playing it and it's ok. It runs good enough on the Xbox One X and I haven't encountred any game breaking bugs yet but honestly, Deus Ex feels a whole lot more 'cyberpunk' compared to this game. Mafia Trilogy: oh man, I had my sights on this one for quite a while. Haven't played it yet but it sure is worth it. All the games with the dlcs + complete remake of the first game. I wanted to buy Nier: Replicant today but the retailer said they were out of stock. 2 2 There used to be a signature here, a really cool one...and now it's gone.

Which makes as much sense as labeling any movie about post WWI Germany as racist movie... Katphood Posted May 5, 2021 Posted May 5, 2021 (edited) Bought Nier: Replicant. Yay! It's going to feel weird to replay the game as a new character. Back in the days we had Nier Gestalt which was the western version of the PS3/Xbox 360 game and had a different protagonist. It's good that PC gamers get a chance to play this game. If you want a good story and a colorful cast of characters then this is the game for you. Is it flawed? Yes. Is it worth it? Absolutely. Keyrock Posted June 6, 2021 Posted June 6, 2021 I scooped up Assetto Corsa Competizione. I probably won't touch it for a few months, but I plan to get a wheel, shifter, and pedals in the near future and I want a good hardcore racing sim. This series is well regarded, @Mamoulian War seems to be a big fan of the game, though I'm not sure if it's this one or the previous one, it has a gold rating on ProtonDB, so I should be good to go on Linux, plus it was dirt cheap on a Steam sale. I am bigger fan of the previous version, because I had ****ty PC I was unable to run ACC. It is very good sim, if you have specs for it, but one with more complicated car set-ups. You will need to watch few hours of youtube tutorials, how to set up the correct fuel economy and brake pads for different race lengths, for different cars I would recommend you for start to pick a single car, and try to get used to it, and learn the set-up stuff you need for it and only then start experimenting with different cars 1 Sent from my Stone Tablet, using Chisel-a-Talk 2000BC.
