isnt white march for PoE generally considered IWD inspired and for NWN2 Pathfinder kingmaker?

I'm the enemy, 'cause I like to think, I like to read. I'm into freedom of speech, and freedom of choice. I'm the kinda guy that likes to sit in a greasy spoon and wonder, "Gee, should I have the T-bone steak or the jumbo rack of barbecue ribs with the side-order of gravy fries?" I want high cholesterol! I wanna eat bacon, and butter, and buckets of cheese, okay?! I wanna smoke a Cuban cigar the size of Cincinnati in the non-smoking section! I wanna run naked through the street, with green Jell-O all over my body, reading Playboy magazine. Why? Because I suddenly may feel the need to, okay, pal? I've SEEN the future. Do you know what it is? It's a 47-year-old virgin sitting around in his beige pajamas, drinking a banana-broccoli shake, singing "I'm an Oscar Meyer Wiene"

Is there anything wrong with the original games? Still perfectly playable to me.

In fact Baldur's Gate 1 is fine. The 'Enhanced Edition' actively makes it worse. And now people can't even buy the original game! It's as bad as the Star Wars special edition.

Sorry went on a bit of a rant there.

iirc they lost the source code for iwd2 or something, so remastered prob not on cards even if someone fancied a crack at it.

imo nwn2 would benefit a lot more from remastering. iwd2 fine as is. just modernising the camera controls for nwn2 would go a long way.

1) They are not playable to persons with modern os, for example I couldn't play NWN1 smoothly no matter which setting I applied.

2) You can buy it, it just comes with enhanced edition.

Not much chance of remakes of either. IWD2's modifications and kludges to IE make it hard to do and it wasn't that popular compared to Planetscape Tournament which was also heavily modified; Obsidian has copyright over game technology and toolset for NWN2 so permission from them would be needed or a rollback to NWN1EE Aurora if Beamdog were to do it.

(Trent Oster may also strongly dislike NWN2, but so far as I'm aware that's hearsay)

He's actually said as much both in a post on the Beamdog forum a while back and in an interview with a gaming website in which he says he considers everything done with NwN2 to have been a bad mistake and that OE took NwN2 in the wrong direction.

Isn't there an option in the EE editions to play the game in the original form, though? At least I thought that was the case with the BG's.

It's an optional separate download of the original game versions- or at least GOG has that option, not sure about steam as the non EEs were never available there. There isn't an inherent EE 'rollback' option.

IWD2 could benefit from proper widescreen support. Modders have already done an admirable job implementing it for other IE games even before the Enhanced Editions came out, whereas IWD2 has only an imperfect fix. A shame given how if I were asked at any given moment between IWD2 and BG2 what was the best IE game I'd have to give it a long think before I could give an answer.

The big thing about NWN2 I would change is some optimisation, which probably warrants a patch rather than an actual new product. The graphics by no means hold up particularly well, but as with the IE games they look as good as a "retro" game from 10-20 years ago needs to.

Any state, entity, or ideology becomes obsolete when it stockpiles the wrong weapons: when it captures territories, but not minds; when it enslaves millions, but convinces nobody. When it is naked, yet puts on armor and calls it faith, while in the Eyes of God it has no faith at all. Any state, any entity, any ideology that fails to recognize the worth, the dignity, the rights of Man...that state is obsolete."

Having played through Neverwinter Nights 2 again this year (GOG's complete edition), I'd say there's many things a remaster could improve on depending on how thorough a work it is:

On a very, *very* basic level, the game could be optimized way further: as it is it's a resource sink which causes frequent frame drops, slows and crashes when not even at the highest settings, on computers that should go way and above its recommended specs. Widescreen resolutions and support is also a little weird, with the UI either stretching or downscaling in turn, and whilst it's not that big an issue these resolutions are far and away the modern standard so it'd be nice to see fixed or reworked.

A slightly more thorough remaster could also work on the absolutely dog**** combat by making tweaks for pacing, clarity and THE AI OH GOD THE HORRIBLE AI. Improvement to the camera and its controls would be welcome too. Also the editor could be looked into to provide a more user-friendly and intuitive interface.

A deeper look at the matter could involve all sorts of other tweaks - revamped lighting and textures, new character animations and emote to also further aid cinematics, new campaign content, new editor features and so on. But that's all up to how far into the "wishful thinking" territory you want to go into. The points before these at least are feasible and relevant enough to warrant a remaster should one ever happen. But then again I wouldn't keep my hopes up.

Haven't played Icewind Dale 2 in years - off the top of my head I'd reckon widescreen compatibility would be a welcome feature, and maybe bringing the game up to speed with new tech and so on... But I don't know how it runs right now or if there's anything in the game itself as is that would really require tweaking or the likes.

After seeing how has Beamdog enhanced NWN1 (mostly with the price hike) I would not be very sure to to want to see them enhancing NWN2 as well...

Well, 'Realms Beyond: Ashes of the Fallen' and 'Pathfinder: Kingmaker' could both be considered as 'inspired' by D&D v3.5, which seems like what the OP is going for here. Possibly IWD2 and ToEE could be remade using the Realms Beyond toolset? I do know that somebody is working on an IWD2 remake in NWN2.

Yeah I think what i'm trying to get at is I don't want Beamdog anywhere near these games. If Obsidian wanted to make a patch for NWN 2 then yeah fair enough.

Yes you can buy it ALONG WITH the Enhanced edition which means money goes to Beamdog. Why is the original game an added extra???

Beamdog is working in a very niche marketplace, so I wouldn't worry too much about them swimming through piles of gold coins anytime soon. I've never understood the resentment they get.

I don't mind remasters and I would never experience BG2 without EE improvements, but where did I say NWN2 EE needs to be done by beamdog? Nowhere.

That's kind of my point, they seem like the only team out there taking on these types of gigs. Or at least, taking them on and finishing them.

The only resentment they got from me is this:

https://www.gog.com/game/neverwinter_nights_enhanced_edition_digital_deluxe_edition

50.49€ for a remaster of the game plus premium modules which were previously free... that's a daylight robbery...

My from US imported Diamond Edition, with all premium modules bought in now defunct Bioware store, were cheaper when brand new and when the value of Slovakian Koruna was ****...

That is pretty dang pricey. Does it at least include all the expansions?

edit: Looks like it does. Huh, weird that the EE edition alone is only $20. Something wrong with that pricing system.

That actually makes me wonder if there isn't some sort of extra licensing cost at work there. Again, this is a special edition of a fairly niche product, so it's not like they are in it for the cash grab.

Everyone knows you go mobile for that. :p

Yeah i'm pretty sure I bought BG1/2, Icewind Dale and Planescape Torment for about 5 quid each (3-4 dollars? 6 euro?) not they are charging 2-3 times that. I get it they had to put time/money into making the 'EE' versions but give people the option to get the original on its own. I feel like they are trying to erase the originals from history.

They have licensing fees to cover, I'd imagine.
