Presumably it's because of the home field advantage. Thus far Russia has only faced (FIFA) low ranked opponents: Egypt #45, Saudi Arabia #67. We'll see how they do against Uruguay #14.

Football is near unique in that rankings mean very little when it comes to specific results, outside the very top sides. Italy, Chile and Netherlands are all very highly ranked but didn't even make the finals and Argentina was within a whisker of missing out (albeit Chile would have got in in their place). Russia certainly has a weak pool though, even with Egypt being African champions.

 

Assuming Uruguay beats Saudi qualification won't be at stake for their match against Russia, so unless they really want to avoid whichever group leader they might face in the next round the final match is unlikely to be a very competitive game.

Well Morocco's out as well, kind of a shame.  Saudi Arabia not getting crushed by Uruguay...thought not sure if it is down to them or Uruguay just being uninspiring.

Would be hilarious to see Spain exit though.

Big surprise he's an Englishman Seems a bit early to be suspicious and they're not an insane outlier (also considering Colombia was down to 9 outfield players for a good portion of their match).
