Lorfean Posted May 25, 2018 Posted May 25, 2018 Total Biscuit passed away. RIP. RIP TB. This really bummed me out today... I watched his content religiously between 2010 and 2015, and still used to tune in for the podcast every now and then in more recent years. He introduced me to a lot of great games. Will have to do a Brothers: A Tale of Two Sons playthrough in his honor. 2 Shadow Thief of the Obsidian Order My Backloggery
Katphood Posted May 25, 2018 Posted May 25, 2018 (edited) Meh, some people being rude about some guy dying is pretty tame compared to people starving their kids, coaches molesting young children or mass murders and wanton violence you read in the news these days. So is a whisper before a shout To me it sounds a little bit more than a whisper, especially when I see stuff like this: https://www.eurogamer.net/articles/2018-05-25-valve-steam-school-shooting-game Total Biscuit passe Will have to do a Brothers: A Tale of Two Sons playthrough in his honor. Yeah, that was his favorite game. I guess I'll give it a go as well. Edited May 25, 2018 by Katphood There used to be a signature here, a really cool one...and now it's gone.

Plenty of people celebrate another's death. See Thatcher, for example. Not always undeservedly so, if you live your life like an utter **** don't be surprised when people cheer. Speaking of which, wouldn't be gaming these days without some moronic drama - some EA wage slave posted this https://archive.li/UuEJw and apparently people get upset. Think some other ex-Bioware worker made some comments as well and Hudson had to come out and deal with that, heh. Lexx Posted May 28, 2018 Posted May 28, 2018 Most of that stuff isn't even done yet. I'm baffled how people still keep giving them money. "only when you no-life you can exist forever, because what does not live cannot die."

Gritino Posted May 28, 2018 Posted May 28, 2018 I don't believe that Star Citizen will "never come out" but I certainly am not paying for content that's a long way off. I'm sure it'll be a great game though.
majestic Posted May 28, 2018 Posted May 28, 2018 I'm fairly certain they will manage to release Squadron 42 in a playable* state at some point. Everything else, i.e. the persistent multiplayer galaxy where you're supposed to take off on a planet, fly around in the atmosphere, go to space, have space simmish arcade combat and then board a station to play some FPS section, well, no. That's never coming out as planned. I'd love to be wrong but it really looks like Chris Roberts has bitten off way more than he can chew. And eh, he can't come clean either. He'd be tarred, feathered, drawn and quartered after he was hanged. *Doesn't necessarily mean good. No mind to think. No will to break. No voice to cry suffering.

Maybe not up to everyone's expectations, but still good.

Not sure if you're being sarcastic here, because everything you just mentioned is at least partially playable in the current release. Still doesn't change the fact that most features that are supposed to be in the next patch have been pushed back to the patch after that *again*. Some things that were supposed to be in 3.0 two years ago are still not in the game and partly disappeared from the current roadmap completely. As an example, the Hull-C that I bought years ago was to come with 3.1 ... and is now gone until maybe 2019/2020 if I'm lucky (it's not on the roadmap anymore despite apparently being completely done). majestic Posted May 28, 2018 Posted May 28, 2018 Ah, should have elaborated. Nah, I'm not sarcastic, just a little bitter, is all. I know it's partially playable. It's been partially playable for longer than most other games need to be released, the likes of Duke Nukem Forever aside. I just don't think it will ever progress much beyond partially playable for the MMOish part. It might, maybe, but I'm not too optimistic. No mind to think. No will to break. No voice to cry suffering.
Malcador Posted May 28, 2018 Posted May 28, 2018 I still suspect it'll end up being fun and all but loses its luster quickly, even with the weird cult fanbase it has Why has elegance found so little following? Lexx Posted May 28, 2018 Posted May 28, 2018 Biggest problem I see is the performance. Apparently they did some tweaks already, but it just doesn't work out. Half the times I've tried it, the game was simply not enjoyable due to this. It's good for making pretty screenshots, though. 4 "only when you no-life you can exist forever, because what does not live cannot die."
injurai Posted May 28, 2018 Posted May 28, 2018 For some reason they went to double precision floats, which makes sense for vast spaces. They probably should have figured out a way to use sub-local coordinate systems instead though, because that is a huge perf hit. Cuts your simd performance basically in half, and that's assuming simd is even being used where it can.
Skazz Posted May 28, 2018 Posted May 28, 2018 What exactly is Squadron 42? I don't follow Star Citizen, so the this whole discussion seems pretty arcane to me. Still, I thought it wasn't out yet? I'm so confused.

majestic Posted May 28, 2018 Posted May 28, 2018 ^ Thank you for the explanation. Judging from the discussion, I'm guessing that it's also the only part that has been released to the public so far? Nah, the thing you can play at the moment is essentialy a tech demo version of the multiplayer part - assuming you have a lot of horsepower under your desk. Not that long ago an update made the game almost unplayable even on very high end computers. 1 No mind to think. No will to break. No voice to cry suffering.
