  1. This thread, yo. Y'all got trolled hard.
  2. This would be more credible if single wands weren't already pretty bad.
  3. Azurro has been the worst thing ever since the initial release.
  4. The Shadowrun games seem to do well enough - and are easily among the best I played in the last few years -, despite not being much longer than 20 hours each. QFT
  5. I agree that using any significant armor on a monk seems to break many people's role playing immersion.Which is weird, since this is a monk. If people are in the kind of battlefield situation where anyone is wearing armor, they are all wearing armor. That is a real world monk, not a monk as described in the class description (I think). Frankly, what I see above is a fighter by any other name. Well, yeah, because in real life, "martial arts" encompasses literally all combat training, and a fighting man is a fighting man, whether he comes from Shaolin or Paris. My point is mostly that the kind of East Asian warrior-monastics who inspire the "monk" fantasy archetype wore armor in combat. Well-designed armor doesn't really impede the kind of highly mobile bare-handed fighting we expect of the archetype (and of course, to deal with heavy armor, proficiency with grappling is a virtual necessity). Crazy ascetics doing high kicks and jumps and whatnot are cool, but what's even cooler is doing all of that in dragon-scale armor - and since it's not a violation of realism, I dunno why there's any complaining about that kind of thing.

  7. IIRC, there was reportedly an animation issue with dual-wielded wands? Anyway, yeah, implements should be one-handed. Logic and balance reasons both.
  8. I thought White March hasn't yet been fully released for the disk version of PoE? GOG, yo.
  9. He actually does mention being older and having less time to spend. That said, all folks are saying is that they have reasons to prefer short, high quality games beyond any debate about game composition itself. Eric's remarks are appreciable in that regard.
  10. And just remember: blackguard is pronounced "blaggard."
  11. That was fantastic, Ymarsakar, and completely on target. God, having the second city be Creitum during your past life ... that would have been ridiculously cool. Probably kinda resource-intensive to get right, but cool.
  12. Might is spiritual power, the ability to Make Things Happen - hence why it affects both damage and healing. Resolve (as the name implies) is direction and conviction, the ability to Overcome Opposition, which is why it prevents interrupts and allows a person to withstand or avoid direct injury. That's my story, and I'm sticking to it.
  13. Wait wait wait wait You played with Anomen? I dunno if I wanna help someone like you, OP.
  14. The question I'm asking is what part the priests of Berath played in this. He's obviously trying to find a solution, but he's convinced that this is all Berath's judgment. The fact that you can't delve deeper into why he'd think that makes the situation feel flat. At this point in the game, it should've been conveyed much more that this could very well have been Berath's judgement. In fact, thinking about it, "We don't know what causes it" is driven home quite often in the game. Absent is the fact that people are more likely to jump to conclusions, and we should've seen more of an effect from those conclusions. I think we only see Raedric pulling this conclusion, and it's not explained very well. Any fanatical priest will probably insist that "their God" has the solution (even if just to find favor at court) The priests of Berath are no doubt advising Raedric on some level, which makes the atrocities in Gilded Vale at least partly their fault. It seems funny that the priest you meet in the upper chambers is such a nice guy. It would make more sense for him to be a fanatical crackpot. I kind of wanted more from the political situation in Gilded Vale. After the initial encounter with the headman, we never hear anything more about the offer to new settlers. Like, we go from "The offer of land might change" to "Well, I've never met this guy, but I'd better go single-handedly say siege to his castle!" So ... basically it's all Nedmar's fault? I can live with that. Although one might also fault Berath for not getting in touch with his priest and saying, "no, stop that." Gods, man.
  15. The character dulls blows and hardens their defense with spiritual energy shaped by the sheer desire to survive and continue forward. Everything in PoE is improved by remembering that the entire setting runs on spiritual power, Not quite. Originally, in the beta, no stat governed Deflection, and Dex added to accuracy. That approach wasn't working for reasons, so they replaced it with +Speed from Dex and +Def from Perception and Resolve, since neither were very good and both fit At some point post-launch, Josh started freaking out about Deflection stacking (not totally unjustified), and switched the bonus on Perception to accuracy.
  16. Actually I do get to decide or at least contribute in deciding which way the lore should go, That is the scariest thing you have ever said. The only thing we have to fear is Brimsurfer with power? Indeed It's a good thing you're so impotent, then.

  18. Naw, death and and nature suck pretty bad. Fire is indispensable on retaliation builds, but otherwise pointless. That's pretty much where it stands.
  19. Triple Crown Solo was a picture of Josh grinning, because it was supposed to be trollishly hard. People then proceeded to crush it with every class - one guy even beat the vanilla game with a 9th level rogue. So, uh ... feel free to hold your breath, 'cause it won't be long now.
  20. I actually felt the questions were generally relevant and not especially obnoxious, and that Fenstermaker was courteous enough to take them seriously and address them inasmuch as he could. There was a bit of "address our forum drama plx," but not too much, and because actual questions with critical insight were asked, actual answers with designer insight were provided. Honestly, I thought the whole thing was very candid and straightforward, if just a bit hung up on personnel stuff. Eh, /tg/ gets a bad rap. They really like WH40K, and they're still 4chan, but they actually produce some cool stuffs.
  21. As nice as these "quality vs. quantity" arguments are with regards to game length, I honestly feel like the age thing is pretty important to. Speaking as someone who's only in his mid-20s, I only have so many hours in the day - and between working and trying to sleep occasionally, I clock maybe 6-8 hours of leisure time tops. I'm going to spend some of that time with friends and family, some of it exercising, and so on. I can spend a while playing a game for a handheld where I can do it while I travel, but when it comes to computer games that require me to sit down and devote my time exclusively? I can't do it anymore. Given all that, a 12-20 hour game that's really entertaining and clever all the way through, like Stick of Truth? That holds a lot of appeal to me. On the other hand, even if I didn't think Skyrim was homogeneous and bland, I still couldn't really play it on account of how many months of my life I'd have to pour into it. I've spent a lot of time playing video games - more time, frankly, than I'm happy with - and it's simply not a sustainable way for me to conduct myself. If developers want to give me games with less content that I get more out of, those are the developers who are going to get my money.
