  1. I'm gonna pull a K1 Quote out here because I thought it was freakin' hilarious. This is on Tatooine when are speaking to one of the Jawas and he says something about "Ghosts in the Desert". HK-47: Explanation: two per cent probability that the miniature organic is simply looking for trouble and needs to be blasted. That may be wishful thinking on my part, master.
  2. Now THAT kind of Basilisk would have been awesome to use in K2 - if you could actually rampage through the streets of Iziz on top of one!
  3. Uh yeah.. battles too hard WTH?? The game mechanics work pretty well the same as KOTOR 1 with the exception that some of the character pathing is not quite as good - they get stuck around corners, etc. But they also made them mysteriously reappear next to you if they fall too far behind, so its not that big a deal. As far as the last Jedi thing is concerned - PLAY THE FRICKIN' GAME! You're the last Jedi that anyone knows about - the Sith are after you because they believe you are the last Jedi. No one ever said you actually ARE the last Jedi. And as someone else says, Kreia is not a Jedi - she is a force user - her CLASS is Jedi Consular because that is her set of skills. Its like how Handmaiden starts off as a Soldier? Well.. soldier for whom? She's not a Soldier, she's a handmaiden, but her skillset is that of a Soldier. In KOTOR 1 Jolee was also a Jedi Consular Class, but he clearly was not a member of the Jedi order anymore. Canderous in KOTOR 1 was also listed as "Soldier" though he was actually a mercenary, etc, etc. And no.. it does not continue with the "Get Ebon Hawk" - "Lose Ebon Hawk" routine.. that is only the first little.. once you get past the "Taris" section of KOTOR 2 (i.e. Peragus and Telos) it is more open ended like the first game. You will also notice as you progress through the game that after you answer Atton about Revan's past the entire setup of the backstory changes, which other characters will relay to you and even certain characters appear or do not appear in certain places because of this. So quit complaining and play the damn game - geesh!
  4. I've been thinking over the weekend about what I think either Muad'Dib or KingofThieves said about how it doesn't work to change perspectives throughout the story and gave the movies as an example - how it doesn't switch from Luke's movie to Han's movie, etc. The realization that I came to is that in fact the movies do switch their perspectives quite dramatically, especially looking at it from the context of a video game. First, you need to look at the movies starting from the beginng (Episode 1) to Episode 6 - now if , as has been said by many people, KOTOR is Revan's story, then whose story is the movies? Clearly the Star Wars movies are the story of the chosen one - i.e. Anakin - they begin and end with him and follow his life to its conclusion. The first movie starts from the time he first got involved with the Jedi and the last movie ends with his death. Stars Wars Episodes 1 - 6 are clearly the story of Anakin Skywalker, the Chosen One. The weird thing is that he isn't the main character or the protagonist in MOST of those movies (in fact only so far in one of them). So let's take a look at how EPs 1-6 would translate into an RPG style video game. Episode 1: Main Character PC - Qui-Gon Jinn and/or Obi-Wan Kenobi Supporting Crew - Amidala, C3PO, R2D2, Young Anakin and Jar-Jar Binks Villain: Dath Maul Supporting / Indirect Villain: Darth Sidious / Palpatine Episode 2: Main Character PC - Obi-Wan Kenobi and/or Anakin Skywalker Supporting Crew - Amidala, The Droids Villains: Darth Tyrannus, Jango Fett Supporting / Indirect Villain: Darth Sidious / Palpatine Episode 3: Main Character PC - Anakin Skywalker (Darth Vader) and/or Obi-Wan Kenobi Supporting Crew - Amidala, Droids, some other Jedi Possibly Entry Level Villain: Darth Tyrannus Main Villains / Allies (depending on POV): Darth Sidious / Palpatine, Yoda, Mace Windu. Episode 4: Main Character PC - Luke Skywalker Supporting Crew - Obi-Wan Kenobi, Han Solo, Chewbacca, Princess Leia, The Droids Villain: Darth Vader (Anakin), Grand Moff Tarkin, The Death Star Indirect Villain: The Emperor (Darth Sidious / Palpatine) Episode 5: Main Character PC - Luke Skywalker Supporting Crew - Han Solo, Chewbacca, Leia, Droids, Yoda Villain: Darth Vader, Boba Fett Indirect Villain: The Emperor (Darth Sidious / Palpatine) Episode 6: Main Character PC - Luke Skywalker Supporting Crew - Han Solo, Chewbacca, Leia, Droids Villains: Darth Vader, The Emperor, Jabba the Hutt ****** Overall there are only 2 characters who actually appear in every single episode (not counting force ghosts): Anakin Skywalker, the Overall Story Protagonist, and Palpatine, the overall Story Villain. You would only really play as Anakin 2 out of 6 times and even in those 2 occasions he would be sharing play time about 50/50 with Obi-Wan. And Palpatine really wouldn't be the main villain in the individual episodes until the very end of Ep 6. The perspectives are shifting around like crazy but the story still encompasses the life of Anakin Skywalker.
  5. People people people.. can we NOT start talking about XBox 2 already - please??!! I mean come on, I just bought the friggin XBox and already we're talking about games coming out for the next one? BAH!
  6. Just got through Telos on my second play through and noticed that Chodo Habat (the Ithorian Leader) actually does refer to Bao-Dur as a Zabrak. Something like "Maybe as a Zabrak, Bao-Dur.. blah blah blah".
  7. I was able to get (seemingly) all of the romance options with both Handmaiden and Visas, though emotionally I think Visas definately as the edge with her dialogue about how much she loves you. Handmaiden is more of a hands-on kind of experience - she worries about you physically and takes revenge on Kreia when she thinks you were killed and all of that. Visas has more of a "fuzzy moment" kind of theme. I don't think Mira was ever intended to be an option, which is weird, though there is some suggestive dialogue there. I never managed to get anywhere anyway and I didn't see any influence type dialogue that I didn't get to, but then again I didn't use her that much so it may be a matter of the right setting/location like with her Jedi Training.
  8. I remember reading that passage in the book of Jedi in Sunday School as a kid when we were studying the GBT Bible (Galactic Basic Translation). Another highlight for me has always been Jedi 4:15-17 in which the prophet Yoda says that 'Fear leads to anger, anger leads to hate, hate leads to suffering. Once you go down the path of the darkside, forever will it dominate your destiny'. I always take that to heart when I play Star Wars games.
  9. As I recall I did manage to get Kreia to tell me Bao-Dur's future.. just had to go through the tree a few times as there is only one time that he comes up and if you ask about someone else then you don't get the chance to do it again unless you use the first dialogue again (what about my friends? or something like that) and then you can choose "What about Bao-Dur". I can't remember exactly what he says but she refers to him as "The Technician" and I think says he will help rebuild Telos or something along those lines.
  10. I think a Jedi Gungan would be a biiiiig mistake. Talk about annihilating the universe.
  11. LS with all DS powers and a red saber. That'll be pretty interesting. I can't imagine you'll have a lot of force to use in that case though as they will all use twice as much FP. My first time through I played LS Male Guardian/Weaponmaster with an orange double bladed saber - nice guy who went all LS powers and tried to be nice to everyone, but generally pissed off Kreia at every opportunity seeing as how she was really an evil bag right from the start. Tried to do all of the sidequests to help people as much as possible as well. Hardest choice for me was whether to get involved with Handmaiden or Visas but as it turned out I was able to have special fuzzy moments with both, and they never fought about it either, though Handmaiden did give Visas a dirty look or two. Second time around I'm playing LS Female, also a Guardian because I love being able to go unarmed until you get a saber .. saves on melee feats. I was going to play Sentinel but didn't appear to get the unarmed specialist feats like a Guardian did. I'm going to attempt to get ahold of at least 2 light sabers by the time I get to Nar Shadaa (complete Lootro, beat Visas to complete first saber and then sneak into Vogga's treasure room for #2) so that she can use dual sabers, blue and orange. Also, as Disciple seems to have missed his calling as one of the designer guys I think I'll max out Atton's influence instead.
  12. I actually went around the conversation tree a few times with Kreia because if you ask one question you don't get to ask others unless to go back to the beginning. The ending response for me gave me a choice between "I came here to Kill you" and "Let's end this." Either one I guess leads to a fight.
  13. Yes, let's not forget that the ease in which we defated Malak is a part of the game mechanics, not the storyline. Which is also why Malak is able to somehow "perma-stasis" everyone including Revan. It doesn't make any sense with the game mechanic - at most the stasis should last like 20 seconds but no matter how long you run around looking for Malak Bastila and Carth stay frozen. That's why the Bastila sacrific things happens in a cutscene, where game mechanics are not an issue. Because let's be honest, at that point in the game, if I only had Bastila to use as a PC I'd still be able to beat Malak. Its only due to the story that Malak is as powerful as he is.
  14. Its not necessarily size that matters, but if you are born with a certain midichlorian count (whether you happen to be big or small), when you lose a large percentage of your body, the midi-chlorians contained in those parts are also gone.
  15. Interesting Concept. I would like to point out however that K2 was 5 years after K1, not 10.
  16. I think it is pretty cool that we actually have the opportunity to post our thoughts about these games on here. Honestly everyone is totally entitled to their own opinions - everyone has different aspects of any experience that they especially savour. For some obviously that savour is in Revan, or more accurately it is in BEING Revan - playing this fabled, legendary Sith Lord / Jedi Master - for these it obviously would have been best for K2 to actually be playing Revan as well - this would probably have made it the most enjoyable experience for them possible. For others we really enjoyed the aspect of making our own character - starting from scratch and making the character as much of US as possible. For me - I am a writer - as a writer I spend more time on my characters than anything else, so the allure with KOTOR is to write my characters and make it my own. Having said that, it may be interesting to discuss this topic not so much from the perspective of our own opinions but more from the perspective of what the KOTOR franchise is really about - not just the story or who the story is about, but the gameplay mechanics, the themes and the overall experience of KOTOR. I think that more than anything else will determine what the actual devs do with K3. Remember its called "Knights" (plural) of the Old Republic, which suggests that the series is not meant to be focused only one individual but a group of individuals. And I know there is the possibility that "Knights" refers to all of the Jedi you meet or have in your party throughout the game, but I really think this refers to your main characters. After all, Episode 6 was called "Return of the Jedi", and not "Return of the Jedi and also a story about that smuggler and the princess and also the two droids and the Sith Lords.. oh and also something about a Wookie"
  17. Why wouldn't your mom let you get one of "those" dogs? Would she let you get a puppy? It definately pays to do a little research on the breed of dog you want and also have some background on the one you adopt, but our dog is a purebred GSD, 11 years old and in awesome shape - no hint of hip displaysia which quite frequently cripples large dogs by the age of 10 or so. He is an absolutely fantastic dog.
  18. I actually turned Bao-Dur Jedi on Telos after he'd been in the party for like 10 minutes. I think a lot of it with him is dialogue options.
  19. I'm sure there's plenty of wonderful dogs looking for a home at your local SPCA!
  20. Hmmm.. so far my character always starts off with the full spandex body suit. In K1 you just had to equip a dark jedi robe to change the underwear - they didn't have to actually BE dark side. In K2 I didn't notice any ability to change undies.. everyone except Handmaiden had the spandex going on.
  21. 25 here - married for close to 2 years. No kids. Just a Cat and an 11 year old German Shepherd that we rescued from the SPCA. My wife hates all things game related.. which makes things difficult because I love them games. Former EverCrack addict.. former Anarchy Online player. Didn't really like Halo that much.. bought it for $20 and still haven't finished it. Finished Fable in like 10 minutes.. wish I'd bought TSE instead of Fable.. now I'm stuck just renting TSE. Anyhoo..
  22. Hey Nandor - sounds like you didn't actually play KOTOR1. The Malachor V thing happened BEFORE the events of KOTOR1 - in fact I believe they happened several years before KOTOR1, while Revan was still technically a Jedi and hadn't revealed himself as a Sith Lord yet. So no, Revan isn't the Exile, at least not based on that information, as Revan was the conquering Sith Lord well after Malachor was blow up. The Exile was a General under Revan (a fact which is revealed throughout K2) and was Exiled before the Jedi Civil War (Revan and the Sith Vs. The Jedi), which is why he knew nothing of those events. I'll admit though that I thought it was somewhat strange that the face selection was exactly the same in both games.
  23. I'll admit there is definately call to continue playing out the story as Revan, and if the series was completely focused on the Revan character there would definately be a good game there. I think though that as RPGs the gameplay aspect just wouldn't work. I would love to see a whole series devoted to Revan, but I'm thinking for it to work on a basic gamplay level it would have to be more of a Jedi Knight style thing that doesn't necessarily involved leveling up, etc. Because let's face it - playing a RPG with a character who is already maxed out would be lame. The story allowed for this to happen with Revan once already (i.e. memory wipe, etc), but to play the role of Revan again, given the style of KOTOR would require him starting out fresh for a second time, which is also lame. I could see a game designed somehow to incorporate what Revan would already know in the ways of feats, powers, etc.. but the problem is, we've put all this work into leveling Revan up the first time - you'd have to start K3 at level 20 with all of your feats, etc intact, and then where do you go from there? Have it start at level 20 and end at level 100.. by the end of that game you would have so many feats and force powers that you'd never be able to enjoy them all. Another gameplay (and story) problem with this is that Revan ended K1 as the most powerful Sith Lord / Jedi around at the time. He was already able to kill pretty much anyone or anything that he came against when he was level 20. If you start off at level 20 with Revan, how is there going to be any challenge for him? Unless all of the middling Sith troopers, gangsters, battle droids, monsters, dark jedi, sith, etc all suddenly became as powerful (or close) to Revan at the end of K1, there would be no reason for him to level up or become more powerful - he's already the king! By the time you reached the end of the game every enemy you meet (even the easy ones that you would kill at the begining of the game after gaining a few levels) would be on the same level AT THE VERY LEAST as K1 Revan. Either that or the game would consist of Revan entering a room and killing everyone in it with a dirty look. I just think the idea of starting a brand new game in RPG fashion with one of the existing Protagonists would create more gameplay problems than the story could cure.
  24. If that's true then I think they must have gotten confused with the characters and accidentally cast The Disciple as the main character.
  25. So I saw that movie Troy with Brad Pitt. It was a pretty good movie and I'd definately reccomend it. I think it had something to do with Jedi and Sith. There was this one scene where Malak steals Revan's woman and then Revan comes to steal her back but she doesn't want to go. And then eventually Revan drags Malak's brother around behind the Ebon Hawk and Jolee goes to beg for the body back. I think that's pretty accurate. From what I hear that dead Greek guy didn't do a very accurate job of adapting the movie into his poem. Who wants to read poetry anyway?
