What class and build will you use for your save file moving onto Deadfire?
It definitely should be. It's not going to be the easiest run but I think PotD can be beaten with the Watcher playing any class and with story companions.

I haven't decided what class, but I am planning on playing a canonical run to import into Deadfire, and I too intend to make it a roleplaying run. I know we're likely to be allowed to change our class, but I'd like to avoid doing so if I can.

Good build with maxed mental stats
Perhaps counterintuitively, a tanky Barbarian works well for this. See Boeroer's Golden Dragon for an example.

What kind of intelligent weapon do you want to have?
JerekKruger replied to Madscientist's topic in Pillars of Eternity II: Deadfire General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)I'm all for those things too, so long as it doesn't become repetitive. If I enter a new map and it says something about it, that's cool. If every time I enter the map it pipes up with the same line, I'm not. Basically I want to avoid another Lilarcor. Lilarcor was reasonably funny in my first playthrough, but in later playthroughs I grew tired of hearing the same lines again and again.

That's one ugly boat
JerekKruger replied to PrimeJunta's topic in Pillars of Eternity II: Deadfire General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)A (possibly*) fairly simple solution to sails: have the sails rigged correctly, but when you zoom in they disappear, leaving just the base of each mast visible. *Possibly because I don't know the limitations of Deadfire's engine.

JerekKruger replied to Lanyon's topic in Pillars of Eternity II: Deadfire General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)You're right. Given that Josh has made it pretty clear that five is remaining five, I really ought to stop bothering with this thread.

JerekKruger replied to Lanyon's topic in Pillars of Eternity II: Deadfire General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)No I'm saying that aggro mechanics, or other game mechanics that allow a character to force an enemy to attack them or in some other way redirect damage from a friend to themselves are what makes tanks tanks. These aren't present in AD&D*. You can argue that that's not the definition of "tank", but the term first appears in MUDs, not in AD&D. *Or at least weren't in the implementation for AD&D in BG2, which was my only experience of it.

JerekKruger replied to Lanyon's topic in Pillars of Eternity II: Deadfire General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)I realise Fighters weren't the highest DPS, nor did I say they were. What I said was that, unlike tanks in MMOs they weren't designed to be passive roadblocks, but were also capable of doing some damage.

Stretch goal discussion!
JerekKruger replied to TheisEjsing's topic in Pillars of Eternity II: Deadfire General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)Animancers aren't watchers, they can't see souls directly. Instead they use all sorts of instruments to do experiments with souls, much like scientists use all sorts o instruments to measure things that can't be observed directly. As such I doubt being an animancer would have any effect on ones ability to fight well.

Stretch goal discussion!
JerekKruger replied to TheisEjsing's topic in Pillars of Eternity II: Deadfire General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)Honestly, if your eyesight is bad enough I think you're probably better off wearing glasses (even if they risk getting smashed) than not. If I am going to do something where failure risks death I will take every advantage I can.

What kind of intelligent weapon do you want to have?
JerekKruger replied to Madscientist's topic in Pillars of Eternity II: Deadfire General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)Of course. I want it to tell me it's backstory with its talking words More seriously sure, I want more than just that. Like I said, I'd love to see it interject during dialogues like companions can, and I'd hope it has a quest associated with it. I just figure if it's going to be soulbound then it might as well make use of the soulbound unlock mechanics as well.

What kind of intelligent weapon do you want to have?
JerekKruger replied to Madscientist's topic in Pillars of Eternity II: Deadfire General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)I hadn't thought about that, but that works perfectly. Perhaps have it's unlocks tied to visiting locations that are somehow related to it's memories? Perhaps with a Grey Sleeper style riddle (although this time I might work it out rather than look up the solution).

That's one ugly boat
JerekKruger replied to PrimeJunta's topic in Pillars of Eternity II: Deadfire General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)Whilst I agree, I think they do need to make concessions to ensure we can actually see our characters on the deck of the ship.

That's one ugly boat
JerekKruger replied to PrimeJunta's topic in Pillars of Eternity II: Deadfire General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)So because work was put into creating this, we should lie and say we think it's great? PrimeJunta mentioned Pirates of the Caribbean once, in the first paragraph of his post, as a short hand for what Deadfire is going to be like. He/she might correct me, but I don't think he/she was saying Obsidian should use Pirates as a source on inspiration, and the ships he then goes on to show images of are not ships from the Pirates movies.

What kind of intelligent weapon do you want to have?
JerekKruger replied to Madscientist's topic in Pillars of Eternity II: Deadfire General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)I'd like to see something more subtle myself, rather than a weapon that shouts cheesy lines about it's lack of formal edumication. Ideally I'd like it's dialogue to be limited to (a) directly talking to it and (b) scripted interjections in quest dialogues. To make (a) more interesting, have it have a quest line where as you make progress on the quest it tells you more about its backstory.
