A Proposition for Improving Combat Interface Feedback
Namutree replied to Gairnulf's topic in Backer Beta Discussion
You forget that movement was completely real time. Also no, it's not misleading to call it RtwP since things happened in real time rather than turns. Rounds are NOT turns. In turn based system each unit has it's own segment of action; while RtwP games like the IE games everyone moved/acted at the same time. -
Ironically, that problem has been solved with the speed control. Just have the increase combat speed option. That was all that was ever needed. It would be an innovation with no possible downside. Instead, OE got rid of the rounds in favor of the mess we have now.

A Proposition for Improving Combat Interface Feedback
Namutree replied to Gairnulf's topic in Backer Beta Discussion
Your premise is simply wrong. While there are major problems with user interface; they are not the primary problems of poe's combat. The lack of rounds is the primary cause of the chaotic feel of combat. Want to fix the chaos? Give us rounds. Rounds make the game nice and organized. -
That is exactly what I believe. I guess I'm an egalitarian. Good to know.

They are.

Lunchables! I know what you're all thinking... "Namutree, lunchables for dinner? You've lost your mind; lunchables are for lunch." Yet I say, a pox on such notions. I won't be bound by titles. I desire lunchables for dinner, and luchables I shall have.

I suspect equalism is an ideology while gebder equality is a goal. Wish I could still edit. I mean't gender not gebder.

There are three simple things the new trilogy must do to be good: A) Keep the story simple, and make it use a lot of tension building. Star Wars is at it's best when it's dramatic; not convoluted. Simple stories are easier to relate to emotionally, and thus more compelling. B) Don't just jump us into a battle scene. Instead build it up; do a briefing session so the audience can get an idea of what the good guys are trying to do, and to build anticipation for the battle. C) Be consistent with the primary cannon. The prequels are so annoying when they don't fit the original trilogy, and scenes for the ORIGINAL TRILOGY had to be altered or cut by George Lucas so the cannon could make sense. It should have been the other way around; the prequels should have been made to fit the originals. Obvious pitfalls to avoid: A) Over acting protagonists. To say Anakin was over the top in episode 2 & 3 would be an understatement. Only bad guys get to be campy since they aren't meant to be sympathetic. B) Anti-villains. Don't make us sympathize with the villain. Villains should be fearsome; not sympathetic. The attempt to make Darth Vader less of an evil figure through the prequels is one of the biggest flaws of the prequel trilogy. Not only did it lead to a very stupid motivation for Anakin turning to the dark side, but it cheapens his redemption. Not to mention that a story of good vs. evil is more emotionally compelling. C) Meaningless battle scenes. If a battle scene has nothing to do with the main story; don't show it. The wookie battle in episode III is a perfect example of wasting screen time. Don't do that.

Except when you debate with SJW and feminists they generally have the moral high ground even if sometimes there intentions are misplaced I'm not so sure about that...

I suspect equalism is an ideology while gebder equality is a goal. furthermore, I think some people like gender equalism more than feminism because it has less variations than feminism; thus being easier to identify with. I'm honestly just guessing here, but I suspect equalists also have different ideas on what causes gender inequality than feminists do.

Yes. That said I'll take even a bad RtwP system than a TB system any day.I guess you will get your wish than. It's not my wish; it's just the lesser of two evils. Not that I think combat in poe will be bad. I think we'll get combat that's decent, but decent is horrible compared to how fantastic IE combat is.
-
Yes, we need a skill system.

Sargon come out strong here.

You have a point there. However, we all can agree that if they based combat on the old system, all the extra dev. time could be spent on adding more polish in the game overall & giving extra focus to quests/story. Now the major focus is trying to make combat work as intended and be fun. While I think it was a mistake to go without rounds; I believe it would be more work at this point to go back and change it.

Then maybe instead of arguing against the existence of kill XP you should argue against the existence of random beasts. I'm a huge advocate of hand placed encounters. There should be an authentic, specific, in-game reason for the existence and placement of every enemy in this game. Because that would eliminate 90% of the gripes people seem to have against kill XP. This is the core problem associated with trash mobs. It just needs to go. If kill-xp isn't added; I agree. After you get the beastiary xp they'll just be annoying.

IE games didn't have skills except thief skills and weapon proficiencies. Just saying. Thief skills encompass a lot of skills and more than just thieves could have them.

Not this kickstarter. Poe was supposed to be like an IE game. This was project based on nostalgia; not innovation. Being regressive is good when the "progress" you've made is bad. The concepts are not solid. The concepts of the IE games were solid; these new ones are inferior. Greatness isn't even in the cards anymore. Obsidian will be lucky to make something good. I suspect we'll get something average. That's okay; I'm not excited about poe. I'm eager for poe2; it has much more potential. Perhaps, but they make the game better. As for engagement; it isn't necessary. The best crpgs don't have it. Best if Obsidian doesn't listen to you and doesn't keep obviously bad mechanics.

He can be a hater all he wants. Clean up gaming journalism and I'll be happy.

So his plan to beat gamergate; is to have gamergate win? Okay. I agree.
