Is it really a 0 sum equation? ie does content being made that appeals to a lesser percentage of the players mean that there's no content of appeal to the higher percentage of players. Or that the existence of the content for the smaller group turn off the larger? Just noticed this. This is one hell of typo :D Must be something weird on your end, the post looks perfectly fine on my end.

Your Gender/Sex IN VIDEO GAMES, and does it matter to you?
Amentep replied to nstgc's topic in Computer and Console
Or perhaps you misjudge the value some place on cute butts... Seriously though, I iknow in some P&P games - particularly when other players were re-creating their idealized selves, not doing so raised eyebrows. Heck, it happened in non-RPGs too - I still remember a guy, when Street Fighter II came out, taking some ribbing (good natured and not) because he chose to specialize in Chun-Li. I've heard the excuse so many times over the past twenty years that I am simply incapable of taking it seriously as anything but a hasty assurance that the dude in question is totally straight, guys, honest. That's not meant to imply that they're not straight, just that they are very insistent on making sure everyone knows they're Straighty McStraightStraight. I figure its a bit of both. There are still some people out their who can't wrap their minds around anyone not playing a character exactly like themselves; its a time tested excuse that can diffuse awkwardness, in a way. And yet it could also be true. -
Gentle reminder - discuss the issue, not each other.

What do you think about the "romance" in RPG?
Amentep replied to btsam's topic in Computer and Console
Who needs vowels other than leading ones? -
Arguably they're not required to not choose to represent any particular group of people either. I'd hope that whatever characters Obsidian creates fits the setting, and fits the character they want to create and ultimately works as an interesting character in game.

Why aren't there...questions about specific RPG classes

Well I know its not specific, but just wanted to make sure it was intended to be here (okay if it was). -

Is this the intended forum for this thread...? -
Is that YMCA version really ragtime? I admit my knowledge of the form is limited and while it has the classical Sousa-esque um-pa bass line/beat (since IIRC Joplin melded Sousa marches for the form), I'm not really getting the syncopation feel from the arrangement that I only intuitively recognize when listening to classic ragtime. So it kind of comes off as sort of a 1930s period jazz arrangement to me instead of ragtime but that may just be lack of familiarity. Any music theorists in the house?

Yeah the timing of some of the romance stuff led to some hilariously weird scenarios in BG2. Mind you there were some weird triggers for non-Romance stuff in BG2 as well, like Nalia's dungeon banter ("how are we helping the less fortunate tromping around here" IIRC) triggering when you were in D'Arnise hold...helping Nalia...) -

Amentep replied to btsam's topic in Computer and Console
Yeah ME2 did that for me, I thought I was having a chat with a squaddie pal and suddenly Jacob Taylor was all "hey baby" and I was like "wut? I was only trying to be funny, not flirt". And then it was awkward whenever I went into that part of the ship for the rest of the game. BioWare games are pretty horribly guilty of the second offense, going all the way back to Baldur's Gate 2. In Baldur's Gate 2, most characters of the opposite sex will literally not talk to you outside of a few pre-scripted one-liners (interjections) sprinkled throughout the game unless you commit to a romance with them...and if you try to demur, welp, that's the end of all of their conversations. I actually think most of the games that have had romances have been guilty of one or the other excepting jRPGs where you're typically playing through a story and not really playing a character so its kind of hard to put to the same standard. -

I'm okay with romances/relationships provided - The romance/relationship is built with the idea of not sublimating the character in favor of the PC The romance isn't necessary to have an interesting NPC relationship. -
This topic has already been locked once because it went off-topic into personal sniping as well as misidentifying the person in question who resigned. Please keep to the topic and keep to the facts as it relates to Deadfire.

The Weird, Random and Interesting Things That Fit Nowhere Else Thread
Amentep replied to Blarghagh's topic in Way Off-Topic
Star Wars probably has an cRPG economy, where the merchants have infinite gold to buy things, and the Emperor and Darth Vader just did a couple of dozen dungeon crawls, carried every single piece of armor and weapons out of the dungeons, sold it to the merchants and used the gold to fund the Death Star. The reason why the Emperor doesn't show up until Empire is that he was doing a massive 99 level dungeon crawl to fund the second Death Star during it. -
First appearance of Photon Torpedoes was in the first season of TOS, in the episode "Arena". Prior to that, the Enterprise had used 'proximity bursts' from the phasers for the same effect.

Are they working on it - according to them yes - https://forums.obsidian.net/topic/93400-unable-to-purchase-rise-of-the-goblins-ios/?hl=%2Brise+%2Bthe+%2Bgoblins I believe I read elsewhere that the patch Flounder mentions in the linked thread was delayed by some further developments but was still forthcoming.

You can't. There's no real need to if the question isn't valid anymore you could mark it answered. Alternatively I can remove the thread.
