  1. Colonization. I love that game. I believe the next oldest after that is Diablo.
  2. Alright, here's my map: http://img354.imageshack.us/img354/2294/di...yobs3f030gy.gif I wasn't sure how to deal with Eru's retreat from ENG. The first province he lists as a retreat is "NOR" which is the abbreviation for Norway (though Nwy is more common to reduce confusion). Thus, I have shown Eru as retreating to the Irish Sea. However, it is extremely likely he meant NTH instead, so it might be fairer to just have it retreat to the North Sea as was probably intended. Also, Russia is listed as having no builds when he has two, I think.
  3. Indeed. The provinces the standard map shows you as controlling is only really to make it look nice. In reality, you don't really control these provinces, as the provide no benefit to you in the game other than their strategic value, which persists only as long as people are moving to it.
  4. My favourite book is an Alternative history book called For Want of a Nail. One of the best things about it is that it actually is a history book of the alternative world. It reads exactly like a university-level history textbook of the American Revolution right up until the Battle of Saratoga, where without skipping a beat it details how Burgoyne won the battle, and from that point on it continues to read as a university level history textbook, but one in which the Rebellion is defeated (which leads to an initially semi-independent Confederation of North America, including Louisiana and all of British North America, while the hardcore revolutionaries flee to Texas, eventually creating the United States of Mexico). It even has a review by a Professor of History at Mexico University (as to ease tensions between the countries, all history textbooks written by an academic from either country on events involving the CNA or USM are reviewed by a counterpart from the other country) who lays into the book claiming that it is unfairly biased against the USM and shows the CNA in a far too positive light. In fact, I prefer the very dry timelines of events that amateur alternative historians produce over the novels the professional writer make. One of my favourites is For All Time, in which FDR dies sooner than he did in our timeline, and it is Henry Wallace, not Harry Truman who takes over as President, leading to a much more powerful Soviet Union. Another is Empty America, where the migrations across the Bering land bridge fail or never happen, leaving a completely empty continent when the Europeans discover it.
  5. Super Mario World. It came with the SNES, my first console, and I was hooked forever after that.
  6. Horrible secret relating to Romania: I can sing the chorus of that terrible romanian song, "Dragosta Din Tei".
  7. The damages were actually originally higher than what was awarded, but reduced because the Jury eventually decided to cut off about 20% because they decided she was 20% culpable in the accident. How you would quantify culpability as a percentage is beyond me, but there you go. The damages given, if I understand it, were set so as to correspond roughtly to two days worth of McDonalds' profits from coffee sales. Also, she didn't "drive off", as someone else said. She wasn't even driving. After recieving her order, her grandson pulled the car forward, and stopped so that the woman could add milk and sugar to her coffee. She burned herself when she spilled the coffee trying to remove the lid of the cup. At this time, the car was stationary.
  8. actually the industry standard set by the National Coffee Association of America recommends coffee be brewed at "between 195-205 degrees Fahrenheit for optimal extraction" and drunk "immediately". If not drunk immediately, it should be "maintained at 180-185 degrees Fahrenheit". (Source: NCAUSA.) <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Sorry, poor phrasing. WHat I meant was "well beyond the temperatures to which other establishments heat their coffee", but couldn't think of another way of phrasing it that wasn't cumbersomely long. I didn't even know there was an official industry standard. Either way, that sort of temperature would burn your throat if you drunk it immediately.
  9. I used to pretend I was a girl. :">
  10. Y'know, the McDonalds coffee lawsuit actually wasn't frivoulous. McDonalds had reduced the amount of real coffee in their coffees, and so they heated the coffee well beyond industry standards with the intention of burning people's tastebuds so that they wouldn't be able to taste the difference. Had the coffee been heated to a normal temperature, the woman would have suffered no worse than superficial burns, when she suffered third degree burns instead.
  11. I regularly roleplay the "Didn't really do enough preperation this week" type of GM. "
  12. No need to be sorry. You're allowed one mistake before we crucify you.
  13. The orders are as given below: F Por-MAO F Bre S F Por-MAO England's F MAO cut support from Brest, thus, Portugal does not move into MAO. That section is correct. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> It isn't. See Diagram 16 on page 10 of the rules. A Unit cannot cut the support of a unit that is supporting an attack into the unit's province.
  14. *dances happy dance* Safe! For a while, at least! :D (w00t) Le people of France shall poosh back le evel invadeeng Germans and stooty Eenglish sons of silly persons! I make support orders in your general direction! Now go away, you silly Eenglish Fllllleet, or I shall taunt you a second time!
  15. It's a fairly simple thing to do. Just enter everything into a spreadsheet, put borders on the cells, copy it all and paste it into an image program, fiddle with the colours if you like, and save it as a gif for uploading.
  16. Fine, fine. Sour grapes, I guess. Sorry.
  17. Stop being such a stickler. Sometimes circumstances are beyond our control. I trust him that he did no look at other orders before deciding where to build, especially as it is the only viable option. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> But you've said that this will be the only time this is allowed to happen. What about when circumstances are beyond the controls of another player? Why won't they be allowed the same treatment?
  18. Just how late was this order? Doesn't this game hinge on the fact that orders are given simultaneously? <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Like an hour or two after the deadline...when I had internet access. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> So, after you'd seen everyone else's orders?
  19. Just how late was this order? Doesn't this game hinge on the fact that orders are given simultaneously?
  20. These are two of my favourite Billy Joel songs, that I like because together they show both sides of being a professional musician, one the false pop star image, and the other the genuine creator: Billy Joel - Everybody Loves You Now Baby all the lights are turned on you Now you're in the center of the stage Everything revolves on what you do Ah, you are in your prime; you've come of age And you can always have your way somehow But everybody loves you now You can walk away from your mistakes You can turn your back on what you do Just a little smile is all it takes Yeah, you can have your cake and eat it too Loneliness will get to you somehow But everybody loves you now Ah, they all want your white body And they await your reply Ah, but between you and me and the Staten Island ferry So do I All the people want to know your name Soon there will be lines outside your door Feelings do not matter in your game Yeah, 'cause nothing's gonna touch you anymore So your life is only living anyhow And everybody loves you now Close your eyes when you don't want to see Stay at home when you don't want to go Only speak to those who will agree Yeah, and close your mind when you don't want to know You have lost you innocence somehow But everybody loves you now Ah, you know that nothing lasts forever And it's all been done before Ah, but you ain't got the time to go to Cold Spring Harbor No more See how all the people gather 'round Hey, isn't it a thrill to see them crawl? Keep your eyes ahead and don't look down Yeah, and lock yourself inside your sacred wall This is what you wanted; ain't you proud? 'Cause everybody loves you now Billy Joel - The Entertainer I am the entertainer And I know just where I stand Another Serenader And another long-haired band Today I am your champion I may have won your hearts But I know the game, you'll forget my name And I won't be here in another year If I don't stay on the charts I am the entertainer And I've had to pay my price The things I did not know at first I learned by doin' twice Ah, but still they come to haunt me Still they want their say So I've learned to dance with a hand in my pants I let 'em rub my neck and I write 'em a check And they go their merry way I am the entertainer Been all around the world I've played all kinds of palaces And laid all kinds of girls I can't remember faces I don't remember names Ah, but what the hell You know it's just as well 'Cause after a while and a thousand miles It all becomes the same I am the entertainer I bring to you my songs I'd like to spend a day or two I can't stay that long No, I've got to meet expenses I got to stay in line Gotta get those fees to the agencies And I'd love to stay but there's bills to pay So I just don't have the time I am the entertainer I come to do my show You've heard my latest record It's been on the radio Ah, it took me years to write it They were the best years of my life It was a beautiful song But it ran too long If you're gonna have a hit You gotta make it fit So they cut it down to 3:05 I am the entertainer The idol of my age I make all kinds of money When I go on the stage Ah, you've seen me in the papers I've been in the magazines But if I go cold I won't get sold I'll get put in the back in the discount rack Like another can of beans I am the entertainer And I know just where I stand Another Serenader And another long-haired band Today I am your champion I may have won your hearts But I know the game, you'll forget my name I won't be here in another year If I don't stay on the charts
  21. I used to really like Franz Ferdinand. They were my favourite band. Then I went to one of their concerts, and they only came on for 45 minutes (including an encore), fifteen minutes of which were consumed by playing a short riff on one string and shouting "Scotland" at the end of it (this was also the only "song" they played that wasn't on their album). When they left the stage at the end of their set (before the encore, which incidentally consisted of one extra song), I turned to the friend I was with and said "I didn't know there was an interval". After going to what was, in my opinion, the worst concert evar, I've not listened to my Franz Ferdinand album since.
  22. The Waifs - Flesh and Blood There are secrets in the soul of me Things I keep inside Places you will never see Hidden under lock and key Flesh and blood and skin and bone You
  23. I have a version of this map that comes in non-Kaftan blinding colours which Ender could use if he so desired: http://img373.imageshack.us/img373/6083/da...acylight2ir.gif
  24. Thank you, Mets. I hope that helps restore some of my reputation. If I were an Ear Farmer, you'd be BBC7.
  25. I'll never say anything about it ever again if Ender agrees to do the same.
