  1. You've always been the one arguing semantics, and when that fails, you outrightly lie about what people have said. There's no contradiction. I have experience with the rules and tactics of the game. I had little experience with the diplomacy of the game, and with actually playing it. If you see a contradiction here, then surely you have no problem with continuing to play, as the game of tactics it would be from here is therefore little different from the game of negotiation it was before.
  2. First, that statement was a joke. Second, you seem to be completely unable to distinguish my experience with the rules and strategy of this game from my experience with that actual diplomacy of the game. Where have I ever said that I'm an experienced diplomat? Never. Where have I said that I'm experienced with the rules? Lots of places, because it's true. I'm experienced with the rules, but before OBS-2 I had never played in a game. By OBS-2, you had played in a game. That makes you more experienced at actually playing the game, whether you like it or not. Ender, I really don't care whether or not you believe me when I say that I voted for the restart. But it's true. I didn't defend the descision because I wanted it, or because I voted for it, I defended it because I believe that every change to this game after it has begun has to be decided unanimously.
  3. I thought lying out of the game wasn't cool? I said: At actually playing the game. At actually playing the game. Not "no experience whatsoever". At actually playing the game. Until OBS-2, I had never engaged in diplomatic correspondence. Discounting those given in strategy articles, until OBS-1 I had never even read any diplomatic correspondence. All I had seen is was the same thing that anyone reading this thread would see: the orders and their results.
  4. Uh-huh. And once Kaftan is eliminated, you can feel free to do so. One player has not yet agreed to end the game. I haven't participated in games, or seen them played out. I've read game reports, and forum threads on which PBEM games have been played, which anyone on the entire planet can do if they have an internet connection and know how to use Google.
  5. Oh gosh, I'm so sorry. <_< You know, maybe instead of whining, you could ask Kaftan to capitulate. Just a thought.
  6. Correct. Also, unless Arch is doing this differently, you can list multiple provinces in the order you wish to retreat to, and you will retreat to the first unoccupied province on your list.
  7. I'm not forcing you, I'm asking you. You can declare a draw whenever you like. But if you declare one before Tuesday (or monday if Kaftan doesn't send in a move), then the draw will be three ways between Yourself, Jags, and Kaftan.
  8. Sorry to say that I am. She also kept getting her massive flabby breasts out whenever she could.
  9. Then it's bye bye Dislodged unit.
  10. An amateur one. There are maps of the world and various continents on every wall in my bedroom, and I have more maps on my computer than pronographic images.
  11. The British one just finished here. There were only one or two people in the house that weren't backstabbing, lying pricks. And a huge big fat woman who sat on a bottle and masturbated in the garden. Oh, and a virgin in his late twenties with cringingly bad social skills that cried all the time. He shared the prize fund with just about the only other person who wasn't a malicious **** (about 2 days from the end, he was offered half of the prize money if he wanted it, and he did the sensible thing). I think i'm going to apply for the next one. :D
  12. Nah. I've decided I don't actually like playing Diplomacy quite as much as I thought I would. It was my love of maps that first drew me to the game, so I'm going to stick to GMing for the most part from now on, I think, since that involves the most mapwork.
  13. People fight their family members, so I doubt the issues are external to humans. We are wired to be competitive, and that means fighting. And war is just the logical extension of this. People would argue about which end of the egg should be opened. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Well, that's obvious. You open it from the bottom, and I'll kill anyone who disagrees with me.
  14. I found this timeline of proliferation thingy, if anyone's interested.
  15. Just a reminder, Mets, that I'd like to recieve the turn results by email too.
  16. Until Kaftan is actually eliminated (basically, until the end of next winter), declares that he has quit, or misses his next turn, any draw will be between the three of you. Personally, I think declaring a draw would be rather contrary to the spirit of the game. once France and Germany are actually out, you'll both be within a few centres of a win, and I think you both should press for it. Since by that point no negotiation would be required, we could speed turns up further for the last few days. Go on. Don't you want to be the winner of the first game of Diplomacy on the Obsidian boards? As we're finishing soon, I'd like to request that people begin posting End Of Game statements. If you could talk a bit about your plans, strategies, who you trusted when you shouldn't have, who you didn't when you shold have, what went wrong, what went right, and so on, it would make for interesting reading, and would help both other players and my upcoming online archive.
  17. The Drugs Don't Work - The Verve All this talk of getting old It's getting me down my love Like a cat in a bag, waiting to drown This time I'm comin' down And I hope you're thinking of me As you lay down on your side Now the drugs don't work They just make you worse But I know I'll see your face again Now the drugs don't work They just make you worse But I know I'll see your face again But I know I'm on a losing streak 'Cause I passed down my old street And if you wanna show, then just let me know And I'll sing in your ear again Now the drugs don't work They just make you worse But I know I'll see your face again 'Cause baby, ooh, if heaven calls, I'm coming, too Just like you said, you leave my life, I'm better off dead All this talk of getting old It's getting me down my love Like a cat in a bag, waiting to drown This time I'm comin' down Now the drugs don't work They just make you worse But I know I'll see your face again 'Cause baby, ooh, if heaven calls, I'm coming, too Just like you said, you leave my life, I'm better off dead But if you wanna show, just let me know And I'll sing in your ear again Now the drugs don't work They just make you worse But I know I'll see your face again Yeah, I know I'll see your face again Yeah, I know I'll see your face again Yeah, I know I'll see your face again Yeah, I know I'll see your face again I'm never going down, I'm never coming down No more, no more, no more, no more, no more I'm never coming down, I'm never going down No more, no more, no more, no more, no more
  18. Okay, finished. Apologies again for lateness. T'was unavoidable.
  19. Okay, unless there are any strong objections, I'm going to do it all now, intead of in 45 minutes. When you send in your orders for next year, also add whether you are happy wil keeping the deadline for Fall at monday (thus shortening this turn), or moving it to tuesday (thus moving every deadline forward one day). A unanimous agreement is required to shorten this turn, and any non-votes will be counted as abstentions.
  20. Parliament hasn't really done much of anything on the issue yet, though all parties seem to talk about it being an important issue. However, England specifically is feeling the repercussions of immigration concerns within England. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> And that's one thing. Yes, this usage of the the term is correct. Quite another to say: When was this time? Before 1707? How is England, as opposed to the UK intervening in the situation? Pretty difficult when it's not a member of the UN, a recognised independent state, doesn't have its own army or even it's own (as in, one purely for the nation of England) legislature. Which official for the naiton of England did the pressuring?
  21. And I stand by that statement. I wasn't talking about the entire UK. Are people rushing to move to Northern Ireland because of the wealth there? Is Northern Ireland cracking down on immigration? No. Is England dealing with immigration concerns? Yes. Is England having an abundance of immigrants due to their wealth? Yes. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> The British parliament is dealing with immigration Concerns, not England. Yes, England is having an abundance of immigrants due to their wealth, but this is adressed by the parliament of the United Kingdom.
  22. Given that my family is from England, and I have family from Ireland, and that my friends are from Scotland, I hear them refer to England as England, Ireland as Ireland, Scotland and Scotland and the UK as being the UK. You act as if the UK is alone in effectively having multiple states. Do people in Alberta get offended that people in Manitoba are called Manitobans simply because both are Canadian? I didn't say that people in Ireland live in England. I understand the distinction. So I'm not offending them by calling them English, or saying Ireland is a part of England. In fact, I am reluctant to bring up how Northern Ireland is part of the UK. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> It's not like Albertans getting offended that people in Manitoba are called Manitobans, it's like Albertans getting offended that Canada is being called Manitoba. Which is what you are doing. England does not conduct international relations. It is not a member of the UN. It does not have its own Prime Minister, President, or Monarch. Its independence is not recognised by any government on the planet. You don't refer to the US as Texas, so when you put terms like "the US" and England side by side in a sentence about international diplomacy, the clear inference is that England is a sovereign nation capable of conducting international relations. Which it isn't, any more than Texas, or Manitoba.
  23. Actually, no. I've never once heard that. And I have family in England, who refer to it as such. My father in law was born in England. My favorite English author calls the country England. I've heard bands call it England. I've heard the BBC call it England. Your father is wrong, your favourite author is wrong, the bands are wrong, and so is the BBC. This is flat out wrong. There has been no Queen of England since 1707, when the Kingdoms of England and Scotland were merged into a single Kingdom of Great Britain. And Blair is referred to as the Prime Minister of the United Kingdom. Other names are wrong. Oh, I'm sure the English don't mind. But the Scots, the Welsh, and the Irish (in Northern Ireland) do.
  24. Are you aware, Ender, that millions of people in the United Kingdom find calling their country England offensive?
