Steam vs GoG redemption ?
Mashiki replied to endruwiggin's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
Steam if GoG Galexy was done, I'd get my copy there. Sadly I expect that GoG's software will be done about two weeks before Witcher 3 is released. -
Official Keys Thread v 1.01
Mashiki replied to VladWorks's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
Where I work now sending out 70k emails at a time isn't uncommon, what happens is if it's a bulk mail going to customers we queue it up and do it in batches of 1-3k every 5-20 minutes depending on how much normal outbound load is(fewer sends during normal ops, more when everyone is home) they "when" of how they're sent is they're randomly selected out of the queue. As for how each person gets their keys, most likely they'll be pulled directly out of an access database file and revoked out of the file when they're assigned to the person in question when the email is generated. That's how I did it at my last job, which was at a company that made custom CAD/CAM software that could then be copied onto flash drives or the machines in question could be connected directly to the CNC. For that job, sending out 30k keys for the release of new software wasn't uncommon. -
System Requirements!
Mashiki replied to MotelOK's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
Well you can...you have to use a RAM disk to push yourself above the limit. It's a sloppy method though, and can cause all kinds of headaches, errors, crashes and so on because you're then getting into the 32bit addressing limitation itself. Better for those with XP to pick up a copy of Win7x64 on the cheap from reddit or redflagdeals. $15 isn't that expensive, even for those on a shoestring budget I've lived that life myself. -
Not sure why people keep saying that. I'd rather that Obsidian take the CD Projekt solution to release dates: "When it's done." Obsidian does great work, but they always have some problems with QC when they get backed into a corner. KoTOR2, FO:NV both awesome games, both of which suffered from serious bugs because they were rushed. I don't want PoE to suffer the same fate.

No Thrown Weapons?
Mashiki replied to Magnificate's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
Well that's true in games these days, but going back to the classic days when the best you could hope for is remembering to buy enough stacks of xyz ammo when you were in a small town, then heading out into the wilderness. All the old classic isometric rpg's it was a "buy ammo fest" especially on long hauls out to somewhere. When you bought 60, plus 30-60 more for each of your ranged users. I don't have a problem not having throwing darts or throwing hammers, etc in the game. But that's a personal thing, because I never used it. I was a fan of slings, bows, or simply smashing something in the face until it died. -
Trine's(first picture) a 2d platformer with 3d elements great game by the by if you've never played it, both(trine and trine 2) are very fun. But, as for the spec's? Really now? You're telling me that a rig that would cost you under $220 to build right now is too much? You could build that today with a bit of searching on parts to get the deals but very doable. Maybe a bit more if you bought it all from one place like newegg or tigerdirect. By 2014, in terms of processing and GPU power though? Meh, it'll be over-reaching overkill. The recommended specs right now are dated. Really though, processing and GPU processing is realtive specially two years down the road. And what's really being holding everything back for the last 6 years has been consoles and their limited power. Which is why everything in the PC market in terms of power(GPU and CPU) has been very small incrimental increaes. It's nothing like it was 10 or 12 years ago, that was insane. Though that might very well change at the rate the console market is being abandoned, even with the new consoles on the horizon. Oh and I'm fully in the "don't care" crowd on this poll.

Look at it this way perezca, in a year and a half you'll be able to save up the money to buy a computer. With the rate that PC hardware devalues you won't be able to buy top of the line but you'll be able to buy the previous generation of hardware at about 1/3 to 1/2 the cost and probably be able to play the game well. I wouldn't worry, 2014 is a fair bit away.

Without a doubt, some of us have been waiting for something like this. A lot of people have been waiting and hopeing for something like this that it will give birth to a new golden age of PC gaming. Well you got my money.

Simple way if you use Winamp. Make a copy of your streammusic/audio folder, save someplace easy to remember. Goto a command prompt: Goto that directory. Type: rename *.wav *.mp3 renames all the files at once. Just don't do it to the original directory or you'll have a mess.

Which game is more buggy - KOTOR I or KOTOR II?
Mashiki replied to Burnzzz's topic in Star Wars: General Discussion
KoTOR, when it was first released it had the famous I845/I850 bug which made the game unplayable for large segments of purchasers. Slowdown/studder/jumps/crashes. The game shipped like this, just "how" I sure don't know since that chipset covered a massive segment of the market a few years ago. The only two solutions to this were: Overclocking your machine by a few mhz which I found and posted on the BW boards. Second was to wait for a patch. -
Well if this is still the 'solutions to problems' thread, for those that experience Window mode, try turning off AA and restarting the game. In my case that solved the problem. I've forwarded this to LA as well.

Mira isn't a bug, check her armor she has damage immunity. If a critical is landed or damage over 'so much' it will hit.

Lightsaber Glitch, anyone?
Mashiki replied to glycerine queen's topic in Star Wars: General Discussion
It was a problem with the guardian crystal(I think) in the original KoTOR as well. Since the crystal was probably copied over, then had the attributes stripped out it will exist as well. Just a guess. -
Existing problem from KoTOR still exists in KoTOR2 where skill points are not distributed in the correct numbers for your PC. Example: If your PC should get 5 points, they'll get 1 on level up. Exiting the current running game to the main menu, then reloading your save will fix the problem however. Since it seems to be random I'm unsure of how to duplicate it.

Well it's either your drivers, something in the MSS that's been changed. Sorry man...I don't know what else to suggest.
-
No...I'm following. More or less...you should still be able to turn off EAX from inside the game with the sound disabled(I should have been more clear since it's on by default). However, if the game is refusing the run at all and you are getting no cpu usage when the game is running with that audio driver...that makes me think you have some type of audio driver problem. And it's hanging on that. The only thing I can suggest is trying another sound card or an earlier driver set and seeing what happens. I know when the original KoTOR came out some people copied the miles audio config from another game over and got it to work...but it didn't work in all cases. Other then that...you are pushing my tech limit without seeing the machine in front of me. Short of crossing the ocean...heh. As much as I would love to make a trip

Sorry Hudson, had freezing rain here and not only did I fall but I managed to smash myself up pretty good. Neck and sholders are killing me...also lost track of your post my appologies. I got a chance to look over your post, obvious things were posted by adrich81, try forcing software sound first. If that doesn't work...I'm not sure what type of motherboard you have or the manufacture. Make sure you have the latest drivers from them for the Avance AC97 Audio. Next solution...I know you are going to hate this. Myself I hate onboard soundcards...they usually are not upto snuff and the drivers are crap and cause problems like this. Pick up a cheap SB Live 5.1, up here in Canada they run around $30. If you can't figure out what drivers to install or you think you've got the lastest find out what brand your motherboard is and I'll look it up. I'll need the type, and the brand number. If it's Asus it would be something like ASUS P4B or AV8 or something like that. Similar things for different boards.

Send a mail to Lucas Arts documenting what you've found. This is 'self-help', while some of the dev's do read these forums. Their hands ARE tied until they get a go-ahead from LA to make the patch.

Supported PC Screen Resolutions?
Mashiki replied to ilkramil's topic in Star Wars: General Discussion
Max I think is 1280x1024@85hz, I believe that's the engine's high end. I could be wrong. -
Yup. You can try updating your sound drivers. The mssmp3.asi is the miles sound system driver from KOTOR2 which is faulting, it can be caused by bad driver calls on your system. If you have the latest from the manufacture, try getting the latest from your motherboard maker. You could also see if they have an updated audio set on the miles website as well. Just something else to try.

Another Disatisified customer who needs help
Mashiki replied to Parkbear's topic in Star Wars: General Discussion
It doesn't matter how 'fast' a card is, it has to do with hardware programing interupts and how the driver speaks to it. The 8500 doesn't have the same core as a 9200, to follow a 9600xt supports 2.1 shaders and other extensions in hardware, where the 9600 doesn't. Also to point out, hardware pipelining is diffrent on the series of cards. So is memory, etc, etc, etc... -
Hudson, if you don't post your swinfo.txt file you are going to have a hard time getting any help. Click Configure, Scan Hardware, say "Yes", click details, then save report. Post everything except the keymaping info. What you posted was useless.
