Fair enough. There are plenty of reasons why one wouldn't want to play a monk. The whole "vibe" may not fit, the thing about "taking damage in order to gain resources" might be putting you off, whatever. All good. But please don't say the reason is because monks have to use fists. That's wrong and thus can't be a reason. As a sidenote: it's also not the lore of PoE that every monk uses fists. Actually one of the best shields in PoE is from monks (Aila Braccia). The Greenstone Staff is for monks and so on. Monks can use all their abilites with any weapon or fists. There is no drawback when using weapons as a monk. Transcendent Suffering is just a free bonus. Actually, now with Deadfire (since Torment's Reach is a Primary Attack only) certain monk builds are even better off with a two hander. Please understand that it's somewhat frustrating that one has to repeat that all the time since the release of PoE so that new players don't get a false impression. The next thing would be that somebody says she/he doesn't want to play a monk because monks can't use armor. Wait all abilities? Even Swift Strikes?

Ooh I like this portrait a lot. A very different style of pale elf. Yeah, I was gonna go Fire Godlike for the lore aspects but I might just go Pale Elf just because of this portrait alone. -

Well, I wasn't able to find as many as I thought I would. Disappointing. The problem is a lot of the originals are really low rez so I can't pick out the faces without dramatic loss in quality. Oh well. Maybe someone will get some use out of these. -

I've ****in cracked it boys! I'll be back shortly with some kick-ass Fire Godlike portraits for the lads! Whether they'll fit anything in-game is another matter but sod it. -
No, I don't like the idea of fighting with my fists for my main character. I like the progression of getting a new weapon and so on. Also, I want to use a shield in order to tank better. I also don't like the summoner archetype as my main character because I want him to do the killing and the tanking and the supporting, not to summon creatures to do it for him. I'd go for a summoner for one of my buddies, but not in this playthrough, I'll probably use it on my POTD playthrough. Has something changed since Pillars 1? I thought that monk abilities worked with weapons, as well. My only point was to say that, in addition to doing damage the normal way (and potentially with retaliation), you could make a tank that also turns attacks back against their foes, melee with Blade Turning and ranged with Soul Mirror (and hopefully another item like Aila Braccia). Fair point about not wanting the summoner archetype, though. EDIT 2: I suppose that if the Blade Turning ability only works with fists, then that would be a major disappointment and a fair reason to avoid the monk class. EDIT: In case you haven't read about Blade Turning, here is a link to a partial discussion on it: https://forums.obsidian.net/topic/94209-multiclassing-a-paladin-tank-and-party-composition-in-general/page-2 I appreciate the effort you're putting in here mate but I really don't want to make a Monk =)

Is there a way to block someone on these forums?

I had a quick google and these are the kinds of pictures I'm after, unfortunately all the great artists seem to fascinated with the female form (I empathise) and thus I couldn't find a single male portrait that interested me. I've provided the originals where applicable, in case you guys want to make your own crops. The first one needs an artist's loving touch, because I can't edit it to 210x330 without removing aspects of the character's head, which I don't want to do. Thanks B-man. Bit too devilish for my tastes, though. -
Sorry if this is the wrong place to ask this. Does this forum have a block functionality? Thanks

The way I'm looking at it is that I will have a number of different programmed chants which I will switch to depending on the situation. So I'll have an Ancient Memory chant for when I need healing, one for doing damage, one for protecting against charm, etc etc. I think it's going to be pretty neat. I just can't decide between Fighter or Paladin. I'm thinking that maybe if Obsi stick with the Strength/Resolve divide then I might go Paladin, to emphasise the character's healing/support attributes, since with relatively low strength my damage won't be a priority. On the other hand if Obsi remake it to Might/Resolve then I might go Fighter, to make more use of the weapon damage. Then again I might do something completely different, I'm not sure. It's a tricky one to decide, both classes are so cool. I'm almost certain that Skald is going to be the 2nd class, though.

That's just the one from Pillars 1 man -
Yeah, or the sidekicks, cause that's what they're for. You are not reasonable. You are just constantly repeating what you want. Achilles on the other hand just stated, that there are reasons for the sidekicks to be in the game and that they are alrerady in, so all that complaining is useless, especially as you didn't even play the ****ing game yet. And guess what: Surprisingly other people want other things than you and guess what else: They will get them and you won't. Get over it! Seriously: What's your problem guys? All that whining and nagging and "I want, I want, I want" that came to this forum in the last year or so. It is so incredibly annoying. Quote the part where I was unreasonable. Achilles did not 'just' state that there were reasons for sidekicks. If he had, I would have had no problem with his post. This is some Olympics-level spin you're trying to put on my post.

Has this one been posted before? I found it on DeviantArt... https://coupleofkooks.deviantart.com/art/PoE-Vigo-Iason-664105446 Flippin' incredible... Completely unrelated but has anyone found any decent Fire Godlike portraits? I haven't been able to find any. -
Mazzy also has superb dexterity, giving her great AC, lots of constitution making her tough to kill, and she's got tons of proficiency points in Shortbow and Shortsword making her a great damage dealer straight off the bat. The Wiki says she has Haste but I can't remember why she has that. You can give her Tansheron's Bow, the Gesen Bow, etc and she'll just crush it. There are some good shortswords in BG2 as well. Also the bants between her and Korgan are bloody hilarious. So yeah, Mazzy is a solid character. Her portrait is awesome, too. And she's voiced by Jennifer Hale

From the perspective of someone who hasn't played the Beta and is just going by the subclass descriptions, I can say that the Troubadour is extremely confusing. Before Boeroer explained it, I did not understand what it was supposed to do well at all. I think that could be an issue for players either new to the series or just new to Deadfire.

I like playing a character with an archetype that appeals to me, and I also like creating a powerful character that is optimized mechanically. I often struggle to balance these two things, especially when games don't really have consequences for min-maxing characters completely. For example, in the Fallout series, making a character with extremely low intelligence results in changes to the way the conversation system plays out. This kind of thing helps me balance out powergaming with role-playing. I'm less likely to completely dump Intelligence if I know there's an actual consequence to it. Also, such systems provide fun replayability, because you can deliberately play with extremely low intelligence to see how the game plays out. I just finished playing Fallout 4 with a character that had 1 int. It wasn't a good role-playing experience because my character was completely unaffected! That's the consequence of the industry moving towards voice-acting as default, even in supposedly hardcore role-playing games like Fallout. As for your question about playing someone similar to you or different, I don't care either way particularly. I can get into playing an evil character if the writing is very good. I remember playing KotOR 1 as a Dark Side character, that was fun as hell.
