  1. we do? well, for story reasons, perhaps it can be said that we do....however, in both KOTORs, you had to FIND extra lightsabers (not to mention you had to talk to your teacher every time you buffed up your personal crystal). I would prefer that lightsabers are very hard to come by unless you make them. Hence, the Create/Upgrade Lightsaber feat. It could also fork into different subcategories, such as creating synthetic crystals, which, for instance, might be a 2nd level feat for a Sith but a 3rd level feat for a Jedi.
  2. right, the problem with NR time is that it is anticlimatic....basically fighting Imperial Remnant and the like....it is actually a great setting for a bounty hunter type but anticlimatic for Jedi. plus, you've got plenty of uber good guys running around already: Luke, Kyle, etc. you know, I think most people shutter when they think of the Vong invasion but I would actually like to see what someone like Obsidian could do with that. but, really, KOTOR spans several thousand years and is probably the best setting for Jedi/Sith type stories.
  3. yes, this is one area where the KOTOR games have not been consistent with EU lore (not the only example). previously, it was thought that red crystals do not exist naturally but are always synthetic creations of the dark side. of course, in the KOTOR games, red is quite abundant and naturally-existing. at any rate, I would like to see the next game get into that a bit more....would be quite possible if they introduced a Create Lightsaber feat, etc.
  4. I think the main appeal of KONR is that you can have cameos from the movies, because of the timeline. JO and JA had plenty of movie cameos and, well, I don't think it was anything to write home about....VERY easy to depend on and overuse. No, as long as K3 finds a way to use Ed Asner's voice (i.e. a Vrook force ghost), that will be all the cameo the next game needs.
  5. oh, I'm all about having joinable factions and not just ones about the Force. of course, they had the Exchange in K1 and K2 and that served as an important plot device . but, perhaps they could have developed it further....instead of having to take down the Exchange everywhere, having the option to work for them (and I guess this goes right along with having a "proper dark side path") and to advance the story that way, would have been interesting (though I would, personally, would not use that approach very often).
  6. well, indeed, the absence of night time was glaring (except on Nar Shadda, which is always night). anyway, having changing weather patterns and day/night rotation would be nice...and this would not have to include actual logging of in-game time (the way Morrowind does).
  7. we often hear about how hard it is to have lots of side quests, etc, given the expense of developing games in 3d with full vo, etc. however, I would like to have at least one planet where you can literally get lost in...maybe not a lot to do in that section other than look scenery, but a lot to explore.
  8. my vote would be... Rhen Vhar for ice world. Ziost for forest world.
  9. I think the appeal of Hoth is just that it is an ice world...so, really, a vote for Hoth is just a vote for a polar-type campaign. I agree with you about the movie worlds....most aren't needed in any way and some, like Mustafaar, make no sense for KOTOR. Coruscant and Utopu (or whatever it is called) would be good. Utopu has significance for the Jedi, I believe.
  10. absolutely right, "good AI" is simply that which mimicks a good human player, not an entity that makes no mistakes and has an unfair advantage (i.e. goes for all the "tech combos" early on that you would have to read a strategy guide to even know about).
  11. well, I do agree that Palpatine is the quintessential Chaotic Evil character...warm, charming, cunning, etc and that is the model that I think should be followed in the KOTOR games. it hasn't happened yet: K1 had a *Lawful Evil* antagonist named Malak and K2's villains were either anomolies (i.e. Nihilus) or confused philosophers (Kreia) who really didn't like the Dark Side. the Palps model hasn't been overdone in these games so I certainly would like to see that in future titles.
  12. oh, I agree that it kind of made sense for SW, a setting based on black and white absolutism but, I don't know, I just think that, going forward, it has to seperate the concepts out for a good roleplaying experience. I really think that having joinable factions would help here. Some factions, such as the Jedi Order, will see all chaotic actions as inherently evil and they might actually kick someone out for that. But the system itself should make a distinction between chaotic actions and evil actions.
  13. I agree, Taris was a really nice, fleshed out world, especially if you do the "pro wrestling" and all the other sidequests. If they can do Iziz like that (except with the more ancient architecture for the buildings), then Onderon would be great.
  14. it would not be evil. it would be Chaotic...and that is one of the flaws of the KOTOR games, treating Chaotic as Evil. I wonder how NWNs2 handles this but I suspect it is not as bad in that regard. Evil (at least for the purposes of a video game) is about the overarching intent. Law/Chaos is how you achieve that intent.
  15. but that is why you have multiple dialogue choices like: 1) Hey, that outfit looks good on you. 2) [Persuade] Hey, that outfit looks good on you. the unqualified respsonse indicates that that is what you truely believe and that you are stating what you truely believe.
  16. T3 is underrated but T2 is my favorite....the story was good (enough) but the special effects knocked it out of the park (yes, sometimes it is OK to like a movie based primarily on cinematics).
  17. I watched 2 recent episodes of Veronica Mars. I have to say that it was an interesting concept (in other words, a show that doesn't seem to be about escapism at all) but I found the subplots to be extremely forced with no real development. So, all in all, I'm not really into the show.
  18. well, I think the Holy Grail with regard to AI in computer games is to simply mimick a human player. in other words, not only should the AI being trying to win, but there should be a distinct "personality". for instance, let us say that you like to build more outposts than you really need to in your strategy games...but that is your "signature style"...that is how you LIKE to play. well, I think the AI should go for more than just the shortest mathmatical path to victory...there should be different personalities that appear (randomly determined) each time you play. one personality might like large fleets, one might like tech r&d, etc. they all amount to valid ways to win but each has a distinct flavor. I also like the idea of an "adaptive AI" that intentionally plays one notch BELOW your level. That way, it is still challenging but you can make a mistake or two and still have a realistic chance of winning.
  19. if they do Korriban again, they have to do something exotic...maybe climbing up one of those giant statues and opening a giant eyeball (that is actually a door) and then enter a laberynth of tunnels, etc. that is just one idea but they need to show us something new and exotic there if they use it.
  20. that may be but I'm talking about a game where gaining the dragon-riding feat is a major part of the main story for the protagonist. plus, dragons now would actually look about right (not cartoonish or blocky). of course, Dragonlance is about more than just the dragons....its is an Apocalypse scenario. plus, don't you want to play as a Kender or Gully Dwarf?
  21. Obsidian, of course, but I am still waiting for the fee coffee mug.
  22. ok, the police have radar that shows how fast you are going. ok, you can buy "radar detectors" to tell you when a police radar is in the local proximity. ok, then (probably the same vendors) they sell the "radar detector dectector" so that you can actually get in trouble for having a radar detector. the same principle could apply to spying devices: you have a device that can spy on me but then I look in the back of a magazine and buy a device that jams your transmission...that sort of thing....maybe in the near future anyone who has access to "secret buildings" and the like will have such a jammer built into their id badge. promising new world, eh?
  23. what we need is a Dragonlance cRPG on next-gen platforms....complete with dragon-riding feats, the whole bit. wow, can you imagine the kind of FMV sequences for content like that on a next-gen platform? (w00t)
  24. the first one was more of a straight-up horror flick.
  25. are you talking about the multiplayer version? well, K2 actually uses a finite deck (while K1 just created cards as needed). basically, the multiplayer version would be dealt from a 6- or 8-deck shoe (similar to casino Blackjack).
