  1. The devs said a looong time ago that there would be 0 content downloads for the XBOX in kotor 2. They didn't have enough time/didn't see the need for it. Now, even if they want to add online content, they won't be able to. Games have to be MADE to support xbox live. Kotor 2 wasn't, so what you have is what you will always have. (From what I've read, what you have is quite buggy) Thats why you wait for the PC version <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Well, the idea that the Xbox would get a major RPG release either before or simultaneous with the PC platform was huge in the first place....I'm sick and tired of upgrading my video card, etc.....I want this stuff on consoles... Hopefully, MS will campaign hard to make sure the next SW RPG is Live enabled. - Plano
  2. Well, I may plunk down the $15/month one of these days...maybe for WOWC, I don't know. But let me say that I'm glad you cleared some things up for me. Yes, indeed, if KOTOR could come up with a MMORPG that did not have PVP and had a really good engine and a really good stream of new content, a main storyline (for those interested), then, yeah, I might go for that. Still, I prefer the idea of paying for new content on a *PER INCIDENT* basis rather than on a subscription basis. I think the fact that the Xbox had a downloadable map in the first KOTOR got our hopes up for new content downloads but it hasn't materialized. - Plano
  3. by the way, if you are not an Xbox user and you are curious about the Yavin Space Station download for KOTOR I, I will explain it with spoiler tags:
  4. and why would it not be possible? because of the 3d modeling as the other poster said? again, everything is drag and drop...you know, the Tarisian skyscrapers? That is an object that already exists...you just drag and drop however many you want. elevators? computer terminals? hallways? defense turrets? they already exist...the 3d sprites already exist. Yes, I am talking about a kick*** map creation kit but it can be done.
  5. OK, here is another area I need to flesh out (and I do regret not doing so earlier). What I envsion is the Developers sending out an email to the Subscribers at the beginning of the new quarter and saying something like "OK, the next Mission Pack is going to take place on the Dxun moon and will involve the following plot....we need these three maps to make it work". So, at this point, the Subscribers can do the work themselves if they really want but they would also be able to post on message boards such as this one and tell people what they can upload and that the really good maps may well be used in the next content release. But, yes, I am also talking about the professional developers doing the lion's share of the work.....It is just that, by allowing people to submit their ideas, you keep the interest at a high level. Now, lets say the Developers allow the Subscribers to plant well-disguised Easter Eggs as well. What I mean is, the mission is complete but there is one NPC on Dxun who mentions something about a guy in Iziz who has property for sale or a guy on Alderan who has a prototype weapon for sale. If you actually go and talk to that person, you buy the property or the weapon, etc....but this would just be something extra....you would have to go out of your way to find this stuff. - Plano
  6. OK, if you are a SUBSCRIBER, you get all the content for free. But yes, there is a certain perversity to the idea of people PAYING TO BETA TEST new mods. But, you know what, there will still be plenty of people who want to do it.....you KNOW this is true. And it will appeal to the Suits because they will be making money from both the subscribers and the player base. - Plano
  7. OK, have you ever played Counter Strike? This was nothing more than a mod of Half Life. And did you notice all the maps that there were. People had map making kits because the developers allowed it. Or even Sim City 2000 where you could make up your own terrain map before you played the game. That's what I'm talking about.... YOU AND ME AND ANYONE who has the game will have the ability to point and click, drag and drop and make their own levels. And if the person thinks it is really hot, he can upload it to the developers to see if it makes into the next Mission Pack. That is what I'm talking about. But I am not talking about downloading anything and everything that people make...I would be willing to pay for the better stuff. I would be willing to pay someone else to filter out the crap. The "unlock" thing was just an idea....nothing to get worked up about. I thought it would make sense that you have to complete the main story before you start creating (and possibly uploading) your own maps.
  8. OK, obviously, a good number of us want online functionality. We have established that. And, I think it is doubtful that LA would want another of their properties to go head to head with SWG....if we don't agree on that, then I see no reason to go any further. Now, I will discuss my own personal prejudice with regard to MMORPGs. MMORPGs are expensive...$15 a month. I'm sorry, but I do not want to pay that if I don't have to. They are also, IN MANY CASES, full of "macro writers" and people with 2 or 3 accounts just so they can buff up their main character. Some would call it "cheating" but, in order to cheat, there has to be an objective...what is the objective of these games? For some people it is nothing more than an excuse to cuss and make cat calls, etc. I don't want that but I do want new content from time to time. - Plano
  9. That was just a whimsical statement about a possible title....I really don't care what the title would be....
  10. Whoohooo, please, no Ad Hom attacks....substance only, please... Thank You
  11. I will respond to your other points in time....to answer this question, the Xbox version of KOTOR I had a free download...another "world" you could go to ..... a Yavin Space Station. - Plano
  12. I admit, there would be ALOT OF CRAP uploaded....but the filtering process should catch it....seriously.
  13. Alright, I know alot of us want some sort of online functionality with this franchise. I am an Xbox player and I have played through KOTOR I at least twice but I never got around to downloading the Yavin station....well, I just did and I'm going to play through it again so I can check out the station. Here is the thing: * NO, subscription-based "Galaxies" or "Everquest"-style online play is not what this franchise needs. * NO, an extra map is not quite the answer either. So, the answer, as I see it, is some sort of hybrid of the two. And it has to be something that the Suits can make money with. OK, this might seem a little radical but here it goes: "KOTOR IV: the Demise of Exar Khun" could have this online functionality where: * everyone who buys the game also gets a developer kit (it's really just a map creation kit). * once you beat the game, you "unlock" the kit and the online functionality. * everytime you upload something, you pay $1. * every quarter (3 months), there is a new mission kit. The mission kit is at least 10 hours of new content. and it costs $5 to download. * presumably, there would be much more content uploaded than what could be used...too much for the corporate guys to filter through... * for this reason, there are *subscribers* who pay $15/month...the subscribers decide what 50 hours of material to submit to corporate for the final editing. * like the online-only games, there is property to be bought, shops to be set up, etc. thoughts on this? - Plano
  14. good points, however, if I am not mistaken, cannonically, Raven is just a Sith lord who dies along the Outer Rim when Malak turns on him. So, it really would not be a bad thing for Raven to die in obscurity. How about: If you play LS: you end up rescuing Raven and he is a big part of your multi-threaded victory. He might even be the party leader on one of the final battles. If you play DS: you end up challenging Raven in the final boss battle for the title of Lord of the Sith Empire. So he is still a major character, especially on the DS. And, cannonically, he really should not be a LS hero. But, if they do make it so where Raven is the PC and starts at first level, I will still have a blast with it...no question. - Plano
  15. OK, I don't know if our ideas will make it over to the Suits at LA or Obsidian, but I think we are starting to cook with gas here. Here is what I see so far: Revan ***** Revan is the key to the whole thing. Only Revan can provide a satisfying ending to this trilogy (and it damn well better be a trilogy or there's going to be alot of angry folk out there). The allure to play Revan is strong but there are difficulties as well. If Revan is the PC, then: 1) you have the unrealistic prospect of Revan being a 1st level character. 2) you MUST PLAY A HUMAN as your PC. 3) in all three games, the Jedi PC is never formally knighted (trust me, this is huge for some of us). But, if Revan is not the PC, then he or she must still be involved to have a satisfying ending. Also, there is the issue of alignment, gender, and appearance. Exile ***** I agree with another poster that, in the grand scheme of things, the Exile is not key to wrapping this story up. And not only does the Exile not have an alignment, gender or appearance but not even a name either. It would probably be best to leave the Exile out -- maybe a few scant references in certain key conversations would suffice. Let's face it, everyone who was familiar with the Exile story (that was also a Force-user) is dead...well, almost everyone. Hey, maybe Atris leaves the Jedi order and marries the Exile. And Handmaiden becomes the new Atris. POSSIBLE SOLUTION: * the PC is not Revan or the Exile. * the PC starts off on Coruscant as a Padawan and with a lightsaber. * the PC can be human or non-human. * the PC only goes into the Unknown Regions after he or she is knighted which, shall we say, is about 15th level. * once you find Revan in the Unknown Regions, he/she joins your party as a 15th level Jedi Weaponsmaster. * however, you only get to use Revan for a couple of maps and then he goes off on his own thread but, for the rest of the game, you continue to get alot of cutscreens showing what he is up to, etc. * at the beginning of the game, you determine Revan's alignment, gender and appearance through a series of dialog questions. - Plano
  16. Well, generally I wouldn't either. But let's say you were on a really difficult world (swampy, desert, etc) you could pay a guide to go with you. Maybe I am really thinking of an AI-controlled NPC instead of a party member. But, you know, another optional piece of the story...something else to spend credits on. I see your point...but as someone else mentioned, on some remote systems beyond the Outer Rim, it might make sense storywise if all the outsiders gathered on a single world. Just a little more of an immersive feel...not essential. Well, I stress "Enclave" and not "Order". To be sure, such people are fiercely independent but I think it would make sense to have some sort of gathering point for such Jedi. It would also open up some non-linear side plots, etc.
  17. there are some advantages to what you propose...there are a few disadvantages, however: 1) the main character MUST BE HUMAN...in my view, this has to go eventually. 2) Revan and/or the Exile would have to start off at 1st level and there would have to be another convoluted story to explain why. 3) KOTOR III would be the first time you were unable to give your character a name at the start. Still, it could work. I kind of like the idea (not my first choice, obviously) that you must lock in at the beginning of the game whether you are DS or LS. If you are DS, you play Revan. If you are LS, you play Exile. Again, not my first choice but I can see where this would work. - Plano
  18. Well, I thought that my ideas might run into some "cannonical problems" as I am no expert on such things....however, I think the general jist still stands with the appropriate tweakings. Thanks for the insightful post! - Plano
  19. and, you know, that is probably why we get such convoluted stories -- they have to make it work either way. seriously, though, do you really believe that they can wrap up the story we are in now in one game and still leave the matter of Raven and Exile's alignment unresolved? you really believe that?
  20. actually, I would argue that the people who throw grenades all day long on this board are spending MORE time than those trying to get some ideas out to the developers. - Plano
  21. There has been much said about what the main storyline of a KOTOR III might resemble. What follows here is a combination of how KOTOR II might tie into KOTOR III and also my vision for the main storyline in KOTOR III. I REALLY hope that the main character is a newbie...and who gets formally knighted, etc. I decided to play it safe and spoiler tag the whole thing. - Plano
  22. GENERAL THOUGHTS ON THE KOTOR SERIES AND A POSSIBLE KOTOR III First, let me say, I really enjoyed both games. Morrowind was ES III and still did not have rideable mounts...WHAT, a PSEUDO-MEDIEVAL WORLD without knights on horseback? And Morrowind, at least on my Xbox, crashed ALL THE TIME. Still, the game was a tremendous breakthrough. Morrowind fans are hoping that Oblivion is a showstopper and fills in the gapping holes of their favorite game. By the same token, KOTOR I and II fans are hoping for a grand slam in KOTOR III. I spent about about $50 on KOTOR II and I got my money's worth -- no question about it. My thoughts here are not intended to be a broadside on KOTOR II but, rather, ideas about what kinds of enhancements might make the next installment truely stellar. It's just that KOTOR II is what we have now and it is what we have as a reference point. I actually do have some ideas about what a KOTOR III main storyline might resemble. I will posting that seperately. Here, I just want to mention various ideas that do not directly discuss the main story. But speaking of the story, it really wasn't bad. True, KOTOR I had a story that "spoonfed" you a bit more, and so the first time through was probably a little easier to follow on KOTOR I. But I have to say, I had a BLAST on KOTOR II the second time I played it. (Here is a little gameplay advice: after Telos, make Nar Shaddaa your first stop...really, I built my lightsaber there, converted Bao-Dur to a Jedi, picked up Mira and the Got0 droid as party members, and found all the parts for HK-47....the Smuggler's Moon unlocks so much....) Alright, on to my miscellaneous thoughts: * Totally different engine for KOTOR III...pushing the limits of the Xbox 2. * Turn-based combat is good for a role-playing game...however, it would be nice to have the option of going real time (even if this was only for the boss battles). * the main character should be "someone new"...yes, this person will have associations with some heavy hitters, but he (or she) is starting from scratch. * the main character can be Human, Twilek, or a number of other races. * other races have various advantages....the only advantage of a human is more Force points per level (yes, I know, the "Yoda" race would probably have more than that...but with alot of disadvantages as well) * There are party members who travel with you...there are also "this world only" party members. * in some cases, the scenario may require you to take someone with you from outside your ship....when this happens, this person does not count as one of your 2 followers and this person is controlled by the AI and not by you...actually, there was some of that in KOTOR II...but I would like to see more. I also really like multiple threads going on at the same time (i.e. the second Dxun/Onderon scenario). BTW, the whole Onderon thing really rocked IMO! * While I liked the whole INFLUENCE thing, I somewhat agree with another poster that it seemed a bit one-sided. It would be nice if the Main Character had a chance of taking an opposing view and still FAVORABLY INFLUENCING that person. It should not just be about telling them what they want to hear. Also, I must have asked the Handmaiden about her mother's robes at least 10 times and I kept influencing her favorably. She should have told me to shut up about that. Anyway, a really good idea that is still in its adolescence. * let's face it, some party members you like and some you don't...if you continue to loose influence with a party member, I believe a dialog option should open up in which the party member is politely given the opportunity to pursue greener pastures....in other words, there are more potential party members out there than the slot max on your ship and you can fire the ones you don't want...obviously, this would not apply to one or two of the main storyline characters on your ship...but, in my view, there should only be about 2 who HAVE to be there. Also, a former associate could always send your ship a hologram message if need be. * There are worlds you can navigate to that have no direct bearing on the main story (a little more open-endedness here...hey maybe you prefer Swoop racing on Manaan or buying weapons on Nar Shaddaa!) * perhaps there could be more than one place to go on the worlds...in other words, Anchorhead isn't REALLY the only city on Tatooine, etc....even if there is not much there at the other locations, being able to take a speeder to other sections of a planet would have a really nice feel, IMO. * I also think it would be nice to have a Force Spirit do most of the mentoring of the PC rather than having a quarrelsome party member do it....also, a living mentor that you have to go out of your way to talk to (i.e. on an isolated planet somewhere) would be a nice touch. * I did not mind the M. Night Shyamalan-esque *major plot twists* of the first and second KOTOR....HOWEVER, I kinda hope there is no such twist in KOTOR III...apparently, there are many on this board who feel the same...you know, the mysteries have been unveiled...time to save the galaxy! * Fewer load screens would be nice...but, IMO, not at the expense of more content...yes, I want 100 hours of content if possible! * I actually enjoyed Peragus...but, let's be honest, this was just Phase 2 of the Tutorial...in order to keep everyone's interest, I would suggest that such a level only be about an hour long. * KOTOR II had a very dark, Gothic feel. Not that there is anything wrong with this but is it Star Wars? However, having said that: MORE ROBES and HOODED ROBES would be nice in KOTOR III. * KOTOR II made some illusions to Grey Jedi...mabe KOTOR III could have a Grey Jedi Enclave (on Alderan?)...certain powers can only be learned from them...in exchange for dangerous missions, of course. - Plano
