My best characters were all dual class. EDIT: But, yeah, it was a pain. You had to level up in ones or twos switching back and forth. When you get good summons, though, it was easier.

But the #1 reason that CRPGs aren't dying...
Cantousent replied to Yst's topic in Computer and Console
Folks who ridicule console players as childish put their own maturity in question. This isn't about how folks who enjoy consoles are substandard. Another term I hate is the "average gamer" tag we see thrown hither and yon. Lancer has some great posts, but the idea that we can blame our woes on the average gamer is just a little too convenient. The average gamer might get the most attention from publishers and developers, sure, but that doesn't mean that we're right for no other reason than being in the minority. Still, if we get away from being defensive about our tastes, it's still true that consoles have inherent advantages over computers when it comes to the gameplaying crowd. I like Diablo. One of the reasons I've enjoyed the Diablo franchise is the ease with which I can start, play, and finish a game. The learning curve is quite low for Diablo. It's even easy to play over the lan or online. With all of those factors in mind, how is it so hard for "serious" RPG players to understand? I wasn't a huge fan of the FF series. I played my first game years ago and thought it was fun. Still, I'm the opposite in that I've had many more hours of fun from PS:T than from all FF games combined. Exponentially more. That doesn't mean I'm better than you, just different. That's why I like to see these things in terms of getting what I want rather than preventing you from getting what you want. So, when I say I think KotOR would have been a better game had it been designed first and foremost for the PC and then the X-Box, that's with my own tastes and interests in mind. I'd expect no less from a console fan. We argue for what we want on message boards.... at least I do. -

I agree with that. I like both KotORs, but think they could have been even better had they initially been designed for the PC. -

Yes, please refrain from personal attacks on other members. I find taks a remarkably well informed and reasonable poster. He's opinionated, sure. ...But so are the rest of us. Please continue the fuit discussion while this thread still has life in it.

They might just tell you to check the Obsidian front page. I dunno. Bioware does Bioware Wednesdays because of new information/mods for NWN. Maybe Obsidian will do the same, although they might just manage to get Bioware to do the heavy lifting on the Bioware fora. It makes sense, since the NWN2 board is there.

I am sorry. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Is that a comment on the game or the servers?

But the #1 reason that CRPGs aren't dying...
Cantousent replied to Yst's topic in Computer and Console
This is a good response to some points under discussion in some of the other threads. Good points. I agree whole heartedly with one particular idea: It's far better to look for good CRPGs than it is to rail against folks who enjoy console titles. It's just silly. The point isn't that console lovers should suffer, only that the PC side get a share of fun and games. -
Ah, who cares about the apostrophe? What's more important is the intolerance of MMORPG haters. City of Heroes is an excellent game. I'd suggest it to anyone. I recently bought Guild Wars and I'm learning the ropes right now.

Don't bemoan looks in this thread, for crying out load. Beauty truly is in the eye of the beholder. On the other hand, I know a good personality can dramatically make someone look better. From experience, I can say that I tend to find people more physiscally appealing as I get to know and like them. That's why all these sexpots and beefcakes really don't mean much. I'll likely never meet any of these actresses. The people in my actual life, with whom I converse, who share my joy and despair, are far more important to me. I'm my wife's fanboy. I'm Alicia and Michael's fanboy. I'm my family's fanboy. Hmmmm, I think I've been preaching. I'd better make a quick getaway. Hey! Look over there.

The things you learn reading these threads. Cricket can't be any more boring than baseball, at least. I'm as American as the next guy. Having voted in every election and served in the military of my country, I'm a hell of a lot more American than most. ...But when it comes to sports, I don't see why I should like baseball more than cricket. I don't like apple pie, either. 1986 wasn't that long ago. It's not time for despair just yet. decades only seem long to us because we don't live very long. Who knows what the future will bring for English cricket?

I'm glad my wife isn't home. I was guffawing over this one. Yeah, it's true.

It reminds me of the bar in the slums. You know, where you meet O. Anyhow, I think the music and the swirling red makes me think of PS:T for some reason.
-
Does this site remind anyone else of PS:T?

I admit that I'd rather hear a woman's voice than a man's. I'd also rather look at a woman. You can extrapolate from the previous two sentences many other factors.

I think my character on Guild Wars looks kind of hot. ...As far as cartoon characters go. I wouldn't call myself a fanboy, though.

Thank you, Anakin. I was going to provide that link myself until I noticed that you did so. I appreciate members helping each other. Like my Ghostly friend said, there is a dedicated thread for KotOR 3 related talk. Note, Obidian has not announced that it is developing KotOR 3, so this is all rampant speculation anyhow.

The stormtrooper firing gun is just comedy. I'd actually like to see it. Some bugs are kind of funny in a quirky sort of way. They don't detract from my experience and maybe even give me a laugh. Even then, however, I get tired of them. I like to suspend reality, which is impossible if the game itself makes its presence known because of the bugs. How many truly terrible bugs have you seen of the PoR2 variety? I'm sure you get a lot of game crashing bugs and a whole horde of Sentinels shooting from the crotch, but how many truly devastating bugs do you find. Stuff where the game is corrupted, saved games are all destroy, or *gasp* unistalling the game destroys the system?

Hell, we can create an Obsidian Forum clan for DS2 and play multiplayer. I'll have a bunch of folks over to play on the lan. Won't work for you guys, but... :D
-
Good, while that's not perfect, it's better than a dedicated healer suffering because he's actually healing instead of frying his enemy. I think the idea of just dividing the experience is quite good.

My favorites would have to be Santa Clause, who look like Santa Clause! Or, one character was named George Bush. I'd see the local information scrolling by: "George Bush defeats hellion leader."

I'm definitely buying the game. A few remarks, your interview is months old, Servant. Krezak is buckethead, Karzak is crazy, although I miss the guy. I hope they've redone experience in Dungeon Siege 2. The way experience worked in Dungeon Siege 1 was ridiculous. The fact that you can allocate skills, perhaps mixed with the whole use and gain theory of the first one might work very well. Note: it wasn't the fact that the player increased skills by using them that bothered me. It was the complex and idiotic way DS1 calculated exp.

Thanks for starting the new one, Ender. That's a real cutie in the the picture. Jennifer Connelly was in A Beautiful Mind if I recall. At any rate, I'm a pushover for big brown eyes and dark hair.

I don't forsee any rigs being killed regardless. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> This is good to hear! I'd hate to see the whole PoR2 thing revisited. For shame, Ender, even mentioning the name! I've always thought being a game tester would be cool, but I've never applied. I guess I just don't think my schedule would allow it.
