What games do the developers play?
@\NightandtheShape/@ replied to mkreku's topic in Developers' Corner
I like GTA. Halo on the otherhand... Just out of curiosity...what's so BAD about Halo? It's not that it's inherantly bad, it's just overated. Even I whom is a fan of mindless shooters can't help but find killing the same enemy over and over boring, sure at first i was all ooo and ahhh, coz it looks pretty, and in that respect it is excellent, the AI was certainly interesting, heck it even made me chuckle on occasion because certain reactions and such had been well thought out to make these inbred aliens quite challenging, it falls down on level design, and content mainly. As for multiplayer Halo, yeah I suppose it's fun, but it depends how you like to play. I've never been a fan of snipers and such... it boils down to who can shoot who fastest in the head. Frankly I found it boring. But then again, I just have absolute contempt for console FPS. -
Okay we take look.

Gaming industy <--> Movie Industry

Well they generally have to have some experience with pro-tools, the companies pretty much advertise for for a free lance composer, music is also one of the last things games companies generally look for aswell. From what I know they try to work closely with the musicians, but they tend to not work in house and really they're rather distant from the team when you think of how tight knit the artists, programmers and designers need to be. This is my current impression of how thing generally work when concerning music.

If I remember correctly they're a much "Greener" country in terms of how they create their energy. That is a start.

Computer Programmers vs Videogame Programmers
@\NightandtheShape/@ replied to Tyrell's topic in Developers' Corner
I think geeks haunt every aspect of industy as well. Heck, I even work with some people that wear those really thick glasses like the people in the Apollo 13 movie. B) But those folks rock. Geeks Rock! -

While Alice isn't that good, if such bots can be perfected to a degree that they're passable as being with some kind of personality their use in RPG's would allow for RPG's to be exactly what they should be.... At the lead in terms of AI development. Another thing I remember playing a game in my younger years and while the technology in this game was primative it did make the world feel more real, Lure of Temptress... I believe I have a copy. Anyways the game contained the idea called virtual theatre, I believe Gothic has similar attributes. In Lure of the Temptress characters would go about their daily business, trading goods, having conversations in the street. <_< I often wonder why RPG's don't involve this kind of technology on a regular basis. One of my main grips about RPG's is how dead alot of the NPC's usually seem, kinda stood around waiting for you to talk to them. Or walking around in somewhat mindlessly. I would be interested in hearing why dev's think about this.

I'm there man.... :angry: GIVE ME MY PINK LIGHTSABER! -
Human: Think about god ALICE: I am thinking about it. Human: What is god to you? ALICE: I think of God as a "Who" not a "What." Human: Who is god to you? ALICE: he is master of the universe. That's kinda intelligent conversation. Even in it's early stage it can be manipulated.
-
It's early technology. Primal, but coming along.
-
i'm working on that... (thesis + working model) Cool! I certainly intend to research it myself when the time comes. Soon as Linquistic AI is possible in a game sense then RPG's can improve.
-
Personally I'd like so see alot of realism, though I'm sure what I'm looking for is more of an Adventure Simulation, than an RPG. Here are some things I'd like to see: 1.) Linquistic AI. Actual conversations with NPC's not dull preset sequences. (It'll be a while yet, but ALICE is a damn interesting program) 2.) Behavior AI. If I ride into town on my warhorse of doom, fully armoured sword in hand lets have some reaction please, I wanna to see the villages reaching for their weapons, the women and children running away, folks trying to hide (or actually hiding). Ontop of this everyday activities such as farming fishing, eating cooking sleeping. I think you get my drift. 3.) A damn fine physics engine. One of the best suggestions I've ever read on the obsidian website has been the idea of a physics based magic system allowing real time manipulation of the world enviroment. 4.) Fantasy setting. 5.) Lots of blood, limb severance is essencial. 6.) First Person perspective. Keep it nice a realistic, with a gritty feel but still fun.
