  1. two of the ron howard films we enjoyed is comedies: night shift and gung ho. both is kinda b-movie terrible, but we laughed, so ron obvious did his job. am gonna admit a beautiful mind were a pleasant surprise. most ron howard films has been competent efforts w/o being particular noteworthy for the direction. never saw cinderella man, which we heard a few good things 'bout. HA! Good Fun!
  2. http://www.washingtontimes.com/news/2016/jun/27/richard-posner-no-value-in-studying-us-constitutio/ the internet is a dangerous place for lazy folks. is incredible easy to find single outliers w/o bothering to read and understand why they is unique. for instance, the POZ does believe two Justices is qualified to sit on the Court: ginsburg and breyer. *snort* as such am gonna find a few opportunities to use posner to admonish wod frequent/future legal misapprehensions. on the positive side, posner is a brilliant jurist and at least not a schizophrenic basement-dweller as has been at least one author o' your previous cited support. improvement. *hands wod a cookie* positive reinforcement. HA! Good Fun!
  3. our favorite public library: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/James_Prendergast_Library sure, the harold washington library, particularly the owls, makes us smile fondly, but the prendergast library is unique in our experience. jamestown, ny is utter forgettable, but we always stop at the pendergast and spend a few hours reading when we happen to be in the vicinity. HA! Good Fun!
  4. recalling the previous reggae stuff, am gonna submit our favorite "reggae" tune... seeing as how it ain't reggae, and not really boogie either. https://www.youtube.com/watch?time_continue=46&v=t6B7HjiLD0E the synth bass from reggae woman, which is kinda kewl, necessitated the inclusion o' james jamerson bass. HA! Good Fun!
  5. Because it's something you just made up, not part of the dictionary quote you posted. Edit: "Likely to prevail" not "realistic chance to prevail". Big difference. And @Gromnir, up to now that hasn't been any "due process right" for foreigners to enter the US. SC still held (for now) that the due process right was only for US residents/citizens related to those foreigners, which is still quite dubious to me, and contradicts earlier SC decisions. what is it 'bout law which makes everybody an expert? regardless, already been through this. on the positive side, it is kinda fun to watch val and wod explain Constitutional jurisprudence... pinky and the brain might have the edge for humor. HA! Good Fun! ps @gd: the last thing we need is 8 more o' clarence thomas. fine judge but he will be quick forgotten as a Justice once he retires. judges should be shaped by the law, but like it or not, Justices shape law, and J. thomas will leave behind little evidence o' his impact 'pon the law.
  6. None of them are. Executive orders aren't illegal in themselves, they're only illegal if there's no authorization for them under law, or if they contradict the law. ... *chuckle* in any event, the first travel ban was, as Gromnir suggested, doa. in particular, the procedural due process issue we described at the time were making the travel ban unconstitutional and thus, by definition, an illegal violation o' fundamental rights o' travelers. the current travel ban is a watered-down version of the original travel ban, and SCOTUS only allowed a significant watered-down version to survive until they decide the merits o' the issue. am knowing folks see this as a big win for the executive, but is less than advertised. just as with the first travel ban, the Courts is giving the executive a chance to get their act together. first travel ban court presented the Executive with a kinda blueprint for fixing the obvious errors o' the executive order. the SCOTUS ain't providing similar such color-by-numbers directions, but they is giving the President a chance to fix problems or let the whole thing die as issue will become moot unless something changes 'tween now and the fall. smart thing for trump would be to make further adjustments to the travel ban (water-down again) and for the President to keep his gob shut 'bout the order as everytime he speaks he undercuts efforts to argue the Constitutionality of the order. am doubtful trump chooses path of wisdom. HA! Good Fun!
  7. has any writer managed to "live deep and suck out all the marrow of life," as did dumas? alfred bester's the stars my destination is typical gonna get our more frequent rereads even though it is clear is an homage to dumas' work. we like dumas, but at the time the count of monte cristo were released, publishers paid by the word, and more than a writer, dumas were a businessman. in fact, is tough to say exact who wrote any o' dumas mid-late works as he had dozens o' writers all churning out stories and novels under his name. dumas works were intentional padded to a frequent campy degree. such padding weren't bad... well, such padding were bad but it were kinda charming if you could get into the correct frame o' mind. the stars my destination is one our favorite scifi novels 'cause it manages a seeming paradox. bester's work is derivative and groundbreaking. arguable the firstest cyberpunk novel is a remake o' a dumas work from mid 1800s. many years ago had a job interview during which we were asked one of those unbalancing questions: what is your favorite literary character and why is he/she your favorite? gully foyle. 'cause the hero o' stars had a can-do attitude and boundless energy. no obstacle were insurmountable as long as gully foyle envisioned his goal. etc. am lucky the person interviewing us had never read bester's novel. HA! Good Fun!
  8. inspired by trump's golf cart shenanigans. hadn't thought 'bout it before, but trump is clear channeling don johnson's character from tin cup. HA! Good Fun!
  9. you would understand it if you were a golfer. is a "sport" o' frustration. heck, a person speaking too loud while another golfer is putting is a faux pas. shortest hole is gonna be a par three, 'cause putting is always assumed to require two strokes. long holes is par 5, which again has a two-putt as part o' your total for the hole. putting, therefore, is near 1/2 of the game. greens, the putting surface, is cut extreme short and is tending to be well-watered-- soft. golf cart is not driven on greens 'cause doing so alters the surface o' the green. may take considerable effort (and money) to repair a green damaged by a golf cart as you likely has multiple tire track depressions left behind by the cart's passing, and those depressions o' a fraction o' an inch alter the path o' a ball crossing the tire depressions. so, regardless o' whether is trump's course and he personal pays for green repair (unlikely) until the green is fixed, which could take days for the initial fix and months before the green is genuine back to true, every other golfer who plays the damaged green will possible need deal with trump's d-bag move. is trump gonna give every golfer who uses the course for the next month reduced green fees? oh, and keep in mind the green fees at a high-end course, the cost o' a single round o' golf, can run hundreds of dollars. spend +$300 on a round o' golf and there is kinda an expectation o' quality, yes? drive on green with golf cart is the kinda thing drunk teens do at night. is petty and stoopid vandalism. a sober adult in broad daylight driving on a green? doesn't happen... or shouldn't happen. sure, this ain't anywhere near as vulgar as pu$$y grab comments, but is yet another example o' the chief executive behaving like a chemical altered teen with impulse control issues. HA! Good Fun!
  10. don't pi$$ off the orca. http://www.smithsonianmag.com/smart-news/crafty-killer-whales-are-harassing-alaskan-fishing-boats-180963788/ HA! Good Fun!
  11. anybody know what temperature dvd and similar media begin to suffer warpage? accidental brushed against our mailbox yesterday afternoon/eve when the air temp were 108 F. instant blistering o' exposed skin. can't help but wonder if places such as phoenix and las vegas is having netflix problems. along those lines, our local supermarket, which we rare visit save for purchasing bulk kinda items, had a moderate amusing daily special posted: five minutes of access to the walk-in freezer with any purchase. HA! Good Fun!
  12. mexico paying for the wall is one o' trump's more ridiculous claims... which is kinda impressive given the catalog o' whoppers available. was talking with a conservative friend o' ours recent 'bout obama eye-roll worthy claims, and there were no shortage o' such. am knowing gd likes, “if you like your health-care plan, you can keep it.” our personal faves is, “more young black men languish in prison than attend colleges and universities across America,” and “90 percent of the budget deficit is due to george w. bush’s policies.” off by a factor of 5x for the college claim and obama's policies were responsible for more than 40% o' total deficit in less than 4 years as President when claim were made. there were much chuckling at obama's expense. the thing is, the good-natured banter ceased when Gromnir pointed to trump's mexican wall payment claims and a half-dozen other doozies such as electoral college and popular vote totals for 2016, trump impact on military contracts negotiated long before he were elected, coal, etc. ... laughing stopped. weren't funny no more. *shrug* bs has no party affiliation as far as Gromnir is concerned, but US politics has become so polarized and emotionally charged that folks cannot admit that their guy might be full of it. HA! Good Fun! ps at times such as this, Gromnir sighs relief recognizing just how little the President qualifies as our "leader" in any meaningful sense. our biggest obstacle when discussing US politics, particular with europeans and asians, is trying to get such folks to understand how much more limited is the National government o' the USA compared to what they know. is an even bigger problem trying to get folks to understand how a President in our fed government ain't a genuine National leader except regarding public dialogues and possible in war time.
  13. That's really going to hurt PoE 1's sales on consoles. Not much point in playing the first half of a series when the next part is exclusive to a different platform. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=haWRUpPw_tI the first part were also exclusive to a different platform. sure, it may seem as if poe were released yesterday, but were march 2015. am doubtful this news, which ain't actual news, affects anybody. if poe 2 sells well enough, there is a possibility somebody will port it to console, and seems likely such a port will not become available until years after poe2 release. HA! Good Fun!
  14. only surprise: all the right moves, a football movie, had only one on-field running scene? we will note tom cruise failed to switch the ball to his outside/sideline hand. craig t. nelson likely addressed this mistake when the team reviewed game tape. HA! Good Fun!
  15. taco tuesday. venison tacos. over the weekend we grilled venison flank steak and a few pounds of chicken in anticipation o' the week o' +105 degree temp days. so, today is taco tuesday, with venison. ... am gonna refuse to answer questions regarding how we got venison this time o' year. HA! Good Fun!
  16. let your top two-to-three job prospects know about your situation and ask them for their best offer to acquire/keep your services. is doubtful anybody will think less of you for trying to get the most for your services as long as you are upfront and honest about the multiple offers. don't be a schmuck 'bout it, but is nothing wrong with asking potential employers for a best offer when there is multiple organizations vying for your attentions. been in a similar situation twice and the first time we simple stayed with current employer out o' a sense o' loyalty. turned out to be a mistake in the short and long run. just a suggestion, but no matter what it sounds as if you are in a good place. congratulations. HA! Good Fun!
  17. how the heck did this get necro'd? well, as it were our suggestion in the first place, am gonna be in favor o' customization. am not sure what is concern with the base class names as some kinda hurdle. a ranger/rogue would still be a ranger/rogue regardless o' whether it has a title of pathfinder or scout. every enemy ranger/rogue in the game could be identified as a pathfinder and am not seeing why it would make a lick o' difference if on the player's character record sheet one could alter and substitute pathfinder title with scout. am suspecting the Only place in the game where such a name customization would appear or be relevant is on the player's character record sheet/window/tab. bob's character would still be identified as a ranger/rogue, but he gets to alter title to scout as 'posed to pathfinder. yeah, obvious if you allow customization o' everything it could gets mighty confusing, particular for new players attempting to learn a complex new system. bob went ahead and changed spell names and talent names and ability names and now when he goes to wiki sources or on-line guides he cannot make any sense o' what his character is able to do. in addition, make many such customization opportunities is asking for something to break... and this is a stoopid kinda thing to be devoting any kinda resources to. one extreme limited customization opportunity is nevertheless gonna be breakable, but is far easier to track down and fix if is a unique naming issue. also, as is simple a title, is not gonna cause genuine confusion. bob's ranger/rogue is gonna still be a ranger/rogue; only the largely meaningless title for the combo is gonna change via customization. given the developers has expressed difficulty coming up with so many unique names, and recognizing how some significant % o' players will inevitably be disappointed by final obsidian naming nomenclature for all the possible multiclass combos, allowing the player to customize their own multi-class combo would appear to be a relative elegant solution to an admitted extreme minor potential problem. for folks who believe a multi-class name customization feature is a terrible feature, the solution is obvious: don't use the customization feature. assuming is an easy fix, am having difficulty seeing a genuine downside. given all the input we has seen on these boards and elsewhere for the multi-class namings, is an issue folks is actual, and disproportionate, concerned 'bout. have a simple solution to make everybody happy? how can be bad? HA! Good Fun!
  18. or, y'know, just regular people, most o' whom is diurnal and instead o' needing to consume blood to survive, their bodies actual create new blood constantly. 'course a pole dancer with leukemia might be arguable nocturnal and requiring supplemented human blood to survive, but am doubting she would qualify as a vampire. guess it depends on what is the essential characteristics o' the vampire... and perhaps how gene roddenberry woulda' handled the undead in the trek mirror universe. HA! Good Fun!
  19. opposite were the more obvious problem. at release all tanks were overpowered. it were too easy to load perception and resolve so as to create nigh invulnerable tanks. weren't a fighter problem so much as an attribute problem. in fact, while fighters were the most resilient tanks, their supremacy were largely wasted. why play a fighter-tank when you could go the paladin or chanter route and be highly effective at tanking while also providing useful support abilities? alternative: monk-tanks could dish out serious pain. is not that fighter tanks were less capable than other classes. opposite were true as far as pure tanking. however, the fighter's overkill defense were wasted. 'course by the time the last expansion were released, fighters were back to channeling 2e d&d ghosts. a post wm poe fighter could tank AND dps with high effectiveness. why play a rogue when a far less squishy fighter offered similar melee dps potential w/o the need to apply debilitating status effects to foes? fighters in poe have never been underpowered. while poe fighters initially were not what ie game fans expected, the most resilient tanky class offered far more potential active abilities than any pre tob ie game fighter. even so, compared to other classes, the poe fighter were intentional low-maintenance which could be perceived as dull. HA! Good Fun!
  20. That's a pretty fabulous shirt Alexey is wearing. somebody needs to buy him the perfect shoes. replace with ten-sided dice and he is golden. HA! Good Fun!
  21. ... games serious has messed with our noggin. in the pic we got some kinda friendly mutant chimp in people clothes with a bandolier across its chest, and what first sticks out for Gromnir is the woman (is it a woman? with asian games is often impossible to tell without seeing more) has a hairstyle which would be prohibitive to deal with and maintain in any kinda combat or actiony situation. HA! Good Fun! It's a western game. well then am gonna go out on a limb and guess the woman with the afro is a woman. wouldn't be able to say with any certainty if were an asian game. HA! Good Fun! ps beyond good and evil 2? didn't play the first. no interest in the second, but we did watch the trailer moments ago. developers is big fans of the fifth element, yes? so if korben dallas is a black woman and leeloo is a mutant chimp, who plays ruby rhod? going complete off the rails, am hopeful valerian doesn't take itself too serious.
  22. am knowing gifted would likely prefer if the drone were dropping cybernetic sharks into the ocean, sharks with freakin' lasers on their heads, to attack something sinister. a raft full o' hippies? perhaps evil border crossers, stymied by trump's wall, forced to try a seaward violation o' american sovereignty? conspicuous consumption ny giants fans on a party boat? *shrug* regardless, am occasional impressed enough with such video footage to share in spite o' fact the liberal science geeks is clearly using the drones wrong. HA! Good Fun!
  23. ... games serious has messed with our noggin. in the pic we got some kinda friendly mutant chimp in people clothes with a bandolier across its chest, and what first sticks out for Gromnir is the woman (is it a woman? with asian games is often impossible to tell without seeing more) has a hairstyle which would be prohibitive to deal with and maintain in any kinda combat or actiony situation. HA! Good Fun!
  24. is only two national parks in the contiguous 48 which get less traffic than the channel islands, and the channel islands has a longer season than cascades or isle royale. visiting numbers for the channel islands is tending to be misleading as such includes visitor center and boat tour usage. less than 10% o' channel island national park visitors actual make it out to the channel islands. ~30k for the entire year. have camped san miguel and literal gone multiple days w/o seeing anybody other than nps personnel, though am getting too old to wanna rough it to such a degree w/o being part o' an experienced group. HA! Good Fun!
