  1. Maybe Aurora (who is a writer) is going to write a book about it ... should be a small printrun bestseller, at least: a cult hit ...
  2. And open & close as fast as the control room door in ANH, where Luke leaves the droids to go and recue the princess.
  3. Ooo, touchy! I was making a general comment on the state of the continuity of the EU, as it is handled by GL. Every time he makes a new film, he completely ignores any continuity restrictions in order to expediently deliver the new revisionist view of SW that appeals to him on the moment. And the continuity is consistent because ...? Where are the missing Sunriders? I put it to you that the only reason GL hasn't contradicted the continuity of this period is because he hasn't made any significant contribution to it, yet. What's wrong, "Jediphile" ( ), don't like anyone criticising "The Gospel according to St George"?
  4. Yes, I know that bit, I was trying to recall the son of (Noah? Abraham?) who was the patriarch of the clerical line. Ooo ... I was trying to recall Satan's name the other day, too. Archangel Gabriel was the name a teacher used, to help dissuade us from the concept of the Devil being equipotent with God. Wiki Archangel (beings) linky ... In the Protestant churches, the naming of the archangels can obey any of the following schemes: Michael, Gabriel, and Lucifer/Satan (some churches argue that Satan was always called Satan, since the Dead Sea Scrolls state that Satan was Satanail/Satanael before he fell): Satan falling from his position at about the year 0 following a dispute with Michael . Satan falling from his position sometime in the Creation for wanting to become God and, together with the other rebel angels (confirmed to be 133 306 668 angels by numerous texts), waging a war on God. Satan falling from his position sometime in the End Times because of a dispute with Michael. Michael and Lucifer or Satan in one of the three falling times abovementioned. Michael and Gabriel. Michael alone- a view held by some American Protestant evangelical denominations. The reason this is so debated among Protestants is because Michael is the only one who is directly called an archangel and the term archangel is only used in its singular form in the Bible, although Gabriel and Lucifer/Satan seemed to be equal in position to Michael, which leads to the presumption that they are also archangels. Within the rabbinic traditions of Judaism and the Kabbalah, the usual number given is seven: Michael, Raphael, Gabriel, Uriel, Sariel, Raguel, and Remiel (possibly the Ramiel of the Apocalypse of Baruch, said to preside over true visions). In Islam, the archangels are Michael or Mikael (Archangel of the Weather and rewards in thi life), Gabriel or Jibril (Dictator of the Koran to Muhammad), Azrael (Angel of Death), Israfil or Isra'afeel (Archangel who is to blow the horn on Judgement Day, though Israfel was never an angel in Islam originally), Malik (Keeper of Hell) and Munkar and Nakir (Angels of Interrogation that will question deceased souls on their life before their death). Iblis was chief of the Jinns though not an angel himself, but fell from his position during the Creation for refusing God's commandment to accept Adam (and man) as superior being and bow to him. Occultists sometimes associate archangels in Kabbalistic fashion with various seasons or elements, or even colors. In some (possibly early?) Christian rites, all four of the main archangels (Michael, Gabriel, Raphael and Uriel) were invoked as guarding the four quarters, or directions, and the colors associated with them are associated with their "magical" properties. Among the Tarish, the four archangels are Michael, Gabriel, Tariel (aka Raphael), and Lucifer. ... I also note, wrily, the orignal use of the name "Malik"; the previous discussion on these boards about the IP theft of other games' prior art ...
  5. Wisdom must be related to an internal frame of reference, tempered with the necessary experience to produce a model that will answer all tests asked of it in a satisfactory manner. So it is not just experience: learning from experience; putting that experience to good use, to predict and prevent the same-, and even partially-related-, incidents, and resolve scenairos to an advantagrous conclusion. Certainly, any definition of wisdom I can think of, most people tend to increase their wisdom over time; I can't think of a normal situation where many would lose it, either.
  6. Honestly If I could stick them in a maturation chamber and have them pop out aged 5 I would in a heartbeat :D <{POST_SNAPBACK}> ... It's called boarding school ... "
  7. Well with a mother and father both RPG and game "nuts" whats the bets all three of them turn out to have no interesting in gaming whatsoever <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Pretty damn high, I'd wager.

  10. It demonstrates perfectly how a single sabre can give better defence against a dual-wielding opponent, despite the obvious advanteages of two-vector tactics. Now if only LA had seen a real fight, before sanctioning a silly combat system ...

Funny I never figured myself for the sentimental type <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Just to play advocatus diaboli, if you keep the books (definitely, and possibly the games, too, although that is a virgin antique market) for another twenty-plus years or so, they'll be worth loads, and double that if they're in mint condition. You might also get a lot more for them as a job lot. But right now you'll get only what people are prepared to pay to play with them, which won't be nearly as much as a "collector" will pay, when they are rare.
  12. I can't remember my (penguin toss) high score from previous times, but it was approx. 1000. The best on the website, that I learnt about the game from, was about 2000!
  13. Yes, it allows it, but it doesn't recognise it. You still get the silly 'you lose' screen at the end. However, it's not a major complaint. The strength of the game is that it does allow you to play in this way, and that makes me happy. However, as to victory conditions, it would be nice formally to turn off the concept of 'victory' and just play as a simulator. Not essential, but nice. Most countries in the world today do not judge their success by how high they are ranked on the global power list. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Depends on what the game is simulating, I think. The simulation you create is a lovely global Shangri-La, but it bears no resemblence to the real world and geopolitics, sadly. So, as a theologian, you excel, but as a meglomaniac, You Lose!
  14. That would make a wicked username. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> True ... But, you know you'll never get past level one if you keep changing your username ...
  15. ... Recovering from a severe case of Spamoplasmosis. By the way, tombofsoldier, in English we spell "wish" with just the single aitch.
  16. ... true, but still its not funny to laugh at others misfortunes <_< <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Schadenfreude
  17. I'm totally down with this. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> I'm hip to that groove, daddio.
  18. Er, no. Sorry, but you're mistaking the age of KotOR with the age of Naga Sadow. It's true that some of the Tales of the Jedi comic books (the "Golden Age of the Sith" and "Fall of the Sith Empire" series) do take place around 5000 before the Battle of Yavin, but the other Tales of the Jedi stories (the original five issues and the "Freedon Nadd Uprising", "Dark Lords of the Sith", "Sith War", and "Redemption" series) all take place about a thousand years after around 4000 before the Battle of Yavin (bBY). The earliest of these (the original five issues about Ulic and Nomi) take place 4000 bBY, while the last ("Redemption") takes place place around 3986 bBY. The "Sith War" was set around 3996 bBY, and since KotOR1 takes place about 50 years later, it probably takes place around 3956 bBY and KotOR2 around 3951 bBY. I'd say Nomi was still in her 20s during the Sith War, which would put her in her 70s or 80s at the time of the KotOR games. She might have died of old age by then, but she also might still be alive. Even if we discount the timeline speculation, it's still clear that Nomi could not have lived a thousand years before, since the only time we hear of her in KotOR1 is when Jolee remembers her, which would be impossible unless he is a thousand years old himself... <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Which all goes to prove that GL is not really interested in continuity; he is barely able to provide it for two consecutive films, let alone encompassing all the EU. From what I see, GL is more interested in making (poorly researched) references to them, to appear like there is a larger universe of work, because of the scarcity of LA's success. I wouldn't be surprised if LA had Revan appearing after RotJ. :D

As a stimulant, it is possible it may depress the libido, as in the case of amphetamines. It probably affects sperm motility; I've no idea if it affects ova in any way. (Nicotine causes low-birthweight and premature neo-natals, and this in turn has been shown to affect mental aptitude years later ...) I would query the results of the psychological test cited in your post, too. From personal experience, I know that my physical fitness has more of an impact on any mental exercise than any drug; the somatopsychic effects of a good cardiovascular system (after all the brain uses
  20. I called Mean Girls a "fun little movie". I approach a Mean Girls differently than I would approach a Citizen Kane. If I'm reading a mystery novel, I'll judge it on different standards than I'd judge a work of high literature. Anyway, a movie lives or dies in the director's hands. A good director can save a crappy script, and a brilliant script can die in the hands of a crappy director. A good director can coax great performances out of mediocre actors, and again vice versa. Jackson managed to bore me with Cate Blanchett and Sean Bean in his troupe. Maybe his problem was sticking as close to the books (I assume, I haven't read them) as he did, and should have strayed more from them than he did. That's something else a good director can do. A good director should be able to take a story and glue my ass to the seat making me want to see how it all ends. So I don't think Jackson is a good director. I know I can find review after review praising the LoTR films and Jackson, but they are not universally beloved. Linky Linky
  21. Hip, hip ...
  22. Germans Teutonic ingenuity at the start, I like it! Yep, that's the best way to win. Still. Certainly on the highest level, you will not win unless you defend with attack, viz: "Attack is the best form of defence" (as the Prussians used to believe!). I think they were trying to make increasing the size of your civilization a case of diminishing returns. That's the only explanation I can think of. The problem is, it didn't work - it's still usually the largest Civ that wins the game, which to me is quite boring, especially as I tend to play as a pacifist, and only take territory if I'm attacked first. It's also counter-intuitive - there is some link between the size of a country and its power, but it's not as clear-cut as the game makes it. I'd rather have a 'quality of life' victory - that by getting all your citizens university-educated, with access to all luxuries and very happy, you could win. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> You are such a pacifist, Steve! Not that that's a bad thing, except if you're playing a game of world domination ...! I guess you are looking forward to more choice of religious expression in Civ4, so that your citizens can be buddhists ...
  23. Thanks, I'll use that. Me too, that's my gamepad. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Yes, well done, and thanks, Baley.
