That's interesting, and some good points there. I don't agree that an archetype needs to be one-dimenisional to be true, however. Certainly, for more complex characterisations, different aspects of a character can be expressed in different scenarios, with different characters and situations to add contrast to the description. Actually, thinking a little more about it, Gandalf had some depth to his character; he was regarded differently by different groups within the world (even though he was still basically a force for good); he was quite a chaotic character, too: the end justifies the means.

Kotor 3: Ideas and Suggestions

From what I heard, Bastila's character was actually intended to be the daughter of Nomi Sunrider, but that was scrapped. Bastila was actually the original name for Juhani's character. Or at least, that's what I think happened. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Yep, they swapped the names around (not the characters). I think Yuthura Ban was originally going to be a party member, though; perhaps she was instead of Juhani (I mean the original Bastila)? -

Ooo, touchy! I was making a general comment on the state of the continuity of the EU, as it is handled by GL. Every time he makes a new film, he completely ignores any continuity restrictions in order to expediently deliver the new revisionist view of SW that appeals to him at the moment. And the continuity is consistent because ...? Wher are the missing Sunriders? I put it to you that the only reason GL hasn't contradicted the continuity of this period is because he hasn't made any significant contribution to it, yet. What's wrong, "Jediphile" ( ), don't like anyone criticising "The Gospel according to St George"? <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Not at all, [Metaldigital], I'll criticize Lucas whenever I think he does something wrong. By the time of the movies the Sunriders are 4000 years into the past - why should they have any significance at that time, much less be remembered at all? As I said, we have plenty of ammunition to use against Lucas already, but here is actually an area where there is no inconsistency, so what's the problem? [snip fanboy rant] <{POST_SNAPBACK}> (In case it's not blatantly obvious, I am not interested in one scintilla of the EU.) Ah, okay. I was wondering, and didn't remember if the original idea was for Vima or Nomi herself. We don't know much about Vima's life as a jedi, but Nomi did indeed have the jedi ability for Battle Meditation. So when I heard of the original intent for Bastila, I thought they might have meant her, but be denied the use of her and then decided to push the plot 50 years into the future, so that they wouldn't have to deal with "Tales of the Jedi" characters that they weren't allowed to use anyway. Hmm, there might even be some truth to that assumption, since Vima would have been 50 to 60 years in KotOR1 otherwise... Not much of romance that will sell games there, I think... <{POST_SNAPBACK}> That's the continuity disagreement I was referring to, "Jedisycophant", the one that LucasArts has created in the KotOR universe. -

... Maybe my online role isn't to be goofy. Maybe I'm more of the introspective type online. I think each of us carves out a place for himself in every place he considers important. I spend a lot of time here reading and writing about a variety of subjects, so I've already created my online persona. I could change it, I know. I even want to change it sometimes. ...But it has become the most dreadful of things -- comfortable. So, I imagine I'll remain as I am. Nevertheless, I'll participate in the errant "three sheets to the wind" threads I happen to see. ... <{POST_SNAPBACK}> You could always create a new avatar, that way you could indulge all those dissonant person -
Oops. Sorry. :"> <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Well, there is one, just not two of them. I vote: other. The one that wasn't made.

Nice link, I never knew that. It's actually an anniversary of the birthday of the US, not the actual birthday, per se, because that was back in the eighteenth century ...

Yes, I know that bit, I was trying to recall the son of (Noah? Abraham?) who was the patriarch of the clerical line. Ooo ... I was trying to recall Satan's name the other day, too. Archangel Gabriel was the name a teacher used, to help dissuade us from the concept of the Devil being equipotent with God. Wiki Archangel (beings) linky ... In the Protestant churches, the naming of the archangels can obey any of the following schemes: Michael, Gabriel, and Lucifer/Satan (some churches argue that Satan was always called Satan, since the Dead Sea Scrolls state that Satan was Satanail/Satanael before he fell): Satan falling from his position at about the year 0 following a dispute with Michael . Satan falling from his position sometime in the Creation for wanting to become God and, together with the other rebel angels (confirmed to be 133 306 668 angels by numerous texts), waging a war on God. Satan falling from his position sometime in the End Times because of a dispute with Michael. Michael and Lucifer or Satan in one of the three falling times abovementioned. Michael and Gabriel. Michael alone- a view held by some American Protestant evangelical denominations. The reason this is so debated among Protestants is because Michael is the only one who is directly called an archangel and the term archangel is only used in its singular form in the Bible, although Gabriel and Lucifer/Satan seemed to be equal in position to Michael, which leads to the presumption that they are also archangels. Within the rabbinic traditions of Judaism and the Kabbalah, the usual number given is seven: Michael, Raphael, Gabriel, Uriel, Sariel, Raguel, and Remiel (possibly the Ramiel of the Apocalypse of Baruch, said to preside over true visions). In Islam, the archangels are Michael or Mikael (Archangel of the Weather and rewards in thi life), Gabriel or Jibril (Dictator of the Koran to Muhammad), Azrael (Angel of Death), Israfil or Isra'afeel (Archangel who is to blow the horn on Judgement Day, though Israfel was never an angel in Islam originally), Malik (Keeper of Hell) and Munkar and Nakir (Angels of Interrogation that will question deceased souls on their life before their death). Iblis was chief of the Jinns though not an angel himself, but fell from his position during the Creation for refusing God's commandment to accept Adam (and man) as superior being and bow to him. Occultists sometimes associate archangels in Kabbalistic fashion with various seasons or elements, or even colors. In some (possibly early?) Christian rites, all four of the main archangels (Michael, Gabriel, Raphael and Uriel) were invoked as guarding the four quarters, or directions, and the colors associated with them are associated with their "magical" properties. Among the Tarish, the four archangels are Michael, Gabriel, Tariel (aka Raphael), and Lucifer. ... I also note, wrily, the orignal use of the name "Malik"; the previous discussion on these boards about the IP theft of other games' prior art ... -

Wisdom must be related to an internal frame of reference, tempered with the necessary experience to produce a model that will answer all tests asked of it in a satisfactory manner. So it is not just experience: learning from experience; putting that experience to good use, to predict and prevent the same-, and even partially-related-, incidents, and resolve scenairos to an advantagrous conclusion. Certainly, any definition of wisdom I can think of, most people tend to increase their wisdom over time; I can't think of a normal situation where many would lose it, either. -
Honestly If I could stick them in a maturation chamber and have them pop out aged 5 I would in a heartbeat :D <{POST_SNAPBACK}> ... It's called boarding school ... "

It demonstrates perfectly how a single sabre can give better defence against a dual-wielding opponent, despite the obvious advanteages of two-vector tactics. Now if only LA had seen a real fight, before sanctioning a silly combat system ...

Well some highlights[:] Every 1st ed book ever released for D&D [;] Every 2nd ed book ever released for D&D [;] Warhammer in all incarnations with all the sourcebooks [;] Board Games such as[:] Dragon Hunt and Talisman (and expansions)[;] Star Wars WEG rules expansions and collectable minatures for the rebels and empire[;] Fallout 1&2 [;] PST collectors edtion , book and guide [;] All the D&D games released by interplay including decent to undermountain and Dragon Dice ( :"> ) [;] The entire Lucas Arts adventure line up of Monkey Island , Grim Fandango, Full Throttle etc. Going to stop now If I carry on I wont want to sell the things again.. Funny I never figured myself for the sentimental type <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Just to play advocatus diaboli, if you keep the books (definitely, and possibly the games, too, although that is a virgin antique market) for another twenty-plus years or so, they'll be worth loads, and double that if they're in mint condition. You might also get a lot more for them as a job lot. But right now you'll get only what people are prepared to pay to play with them, which won't be nearly as much as a "collector" will pay, when they are rare.

I can't remember my (penguin toss) high score from previous times, but it was approx. 1000. The best on the website, that I learnt about the game from, was about 2000!

Yes, it allows it, but it doesn't recognise it. You still get the silly 'you lose' screen at the end. However, it's not a major complaint. The strength of the game is that it does allow you to play in this way, and that makes me happy. However, as to victory conditions, it would be nice formally to turn off the concept of 'victory' and just play as a simulator. Not essential, but nice. Most countries in the world today do not judge their success by how high they are ranked on the global power list. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Depends on what the game is simulating, I think. The simulation you create is a lovely global Shangri-La, but it bears no resemblence to the real world and geopolitics, sadly. So, as a theologian, you excel, but as a meglomaniac, You Lose!
