Alcohol induces a depressed comatose state which is not sleep. So even though one passes out, one does not get any sleep, or benefits derived therefrom, so you will in fact be just as tired as if you had had no sleep. (The body tries to catch up, when it can, by having a larger proportion of deep REM sleep than normal, for a while, though it's still not clear the role that each different type of sleep performs ... perhaps REM is for memory and deep non-REM sleep is for muscle repair.)
