I could have used the British-Irish conflict, or South African Apartheid, or many other examples. I used the Arab-Israeli conflict simply because it illustrates the effect of entrenched hatred over generations, and how it creates a vicious cycle of violence.

I am suggesting, very reasonably I would have thought, that in order to draw a line under past transgressions and "move on", it is necessary to acknowledge past behaviours and admit they were wrong.
The first step is always to take accurate feedback, and then make informed decisions from there.
What you are suggesting is that "it's all in the past" and let's start again from scratch now.
That is a recipe for genecide, anytime one group gets bored / annoyed / greedy and wants some other groups' resources. Just kill 'em all, then we don't have to worry about it. Conscience CLEAN!
