  1. Obsidian must be contractually obligated to keep their mouths shut. I guarantee Chris Avellone is more angry/disappointed than any of us. I know I would be if an editor ripped out 90% of a last chapter of something I was writing, then published it. Writers are narcissists, my dear. Obsidian is wearing a legal straight jacket.
  2. I think Atton explains this when he's locked in a cell and again when you first leave Peragus. Essentially, citizens of the galaxy distrust jedi and sith alike, not understanding them and not seeing much of a difference. From their perspective, all the great sith of the time were jedi first, and so sith is more of an epithet than a reality to them. Also, many jedi inactions cost as many lives as sith actions, so the renaming is kind of like pointing out the uselessness of the war with Malak, and the lack of gain that winning presented the average republican. Not saying this is fair, but this is how atton presents the perspective of non-jedi on the Ravan/Malak thing.
  3. Exile killed off before the game begins (there is no way to represent the exile graphically like obsidian did with Revan). Minor actual part for Revan or Revan dead, though Revan influence on story is fine. No pre-arranged release date. New graphical engine. More PC heads. PC races with applicable race mods a la NWN/AD&D (a mon calamari might get double will bonuses or something). More obvious pros and cons to choosing between power attack, flurry and critical strike. Bring back the level cap. Maybe fifteen for base class and five more for prestige class. I glitched up to fifty on one playthrough and it completely screws up the game's mechanics. Lower bonus for unarmed combat-with the exception of a character for which unarmed makes sense, i.e. Bao-dur and handmaiden. It just doesn't make sense that a blind jedi could do three times as much damage with an awkward-looking back-kick than with a plasma blade that can supposedly cut through anything. Less anticlimaxes. Ditch the ebon hawk-twice worked but was definitely pushing it. There are no secrets left in it. No corellian-style freighters. Give us a totally new type of vehicle. No Dantooine or Tattoine. Jedi temple at Coruscant. Like the idea of training jedi, but I think it might be better if you were to pick ONE party member to train-that member's abilities would be seen to increase dramatically. Less party jedi. In the last game their didn't seem to be that noticeable of a difference in abilities between Atton (scoundrel) and Mira (scout) while in Kotor1 that difference would have been obvious to the player. Give us the Dark Lords of the Sith, not dark jedi that call themselves Dark Lords of the Sith. ROBES WITH HOODS for the PC. No real cameos to speak of, unless they make absolute sense in the context of the story. Game definitely needs rebalanced.
  4. They farmed out development of EpIII the game and subsequent spinoffs, since LA doesn't employ programmers. The only involvement LA has with those games is in paying the designers, doing QA, doing music and distributing them. The only involvement LA would have in a KotorI+II pack is to approve it and get bioware and obsidian to agree, then distribute it. Manuals and CD covers cost peanuts. 7 or 8 cents per $60 unit.
  5. LucasArts doesn't work on the films. LucasFilms does-that's the parent company. LucasArts is only an intellectual property licensing agency for videogames. When Viacom launched the Spike network, there was no effect on CBS whatsoever. The incentive is that they sell something without spending money in development. If people wouldn't buy it 2 years down the road, that's fine and my idea is overreaching, but I think, honestly, that I would. Especially with the import feature. I wouldn't mind seeing Revan as I remembered him/her in the cave instead of in the cloak and mask.
  6. That's because the game's easy, not because guardians are good. Try going consular/sith lord with low STR and DEX, but use only melee attacks. You still won't die once.
  7. The budget release thing is why LA would do it. I certainly don't think those hoping for patches should hold their breath. As far as the cut end, I'm just going with what IGN said about why the end was so choppy.
  8. This kind of thing has worked for Squaresoft. Although, admittedly, I didn't even consider buying any of those stupid remakes. I'm a sucker for interesting stories, though, and if I could see the scripted malachor stuff that the IGN guy referred to, I just might do it this time.
  9. If it turns out that Obsidian does not do development for Kotor3, I might write out a formal-type letter suggesting that LA allow Obsidian (if interested) to release a Kotor/Kotor2 double package. The reason for this is that it isn't something that would be anticipated and so wouldn't have a rushed timetable. The idea is that LA releases a nearly unchanged Kotor (except that saved games would be accessable to Kotor2) in conjunction with a finished version of Kotor2. I would expect this to take another year/year and a half development, so sales of both would decline dramatically. Since Kotor would require nearly no changes and kotor2 is at least 85% done, the money gained by selling a double package for $60 (when surely each individual game would cost $19.99) would far outstrip money spent, making a huge profit margin. I find this much more likely a solution than patches, since LA makes no money off patches and (like most corporations should be) is ruled by the almighty dollar. Sure I will be grumbling along with everyone else about having bought the same game twice, but if the 'moving' sacrifices that the exiles companions were scripted to make on Malachor are included and, say, Nihilis is fleshed out, I would pay the money. I would expect Obsidian to be interested because no one likes their writing to be read by many people in an unfinished form, and by LA and Bioware because it's more profit. Thoughts?
  10. That's really hilarious. You posted you're 20 in the age thread, well I'm 27 and that explains a lot really about how you express yourself; obviously there isn't a point in having a conversation with you or trying to state a different opinion. I tried to explain my pov and why I wanted to see it that way not to imply that I'm correct and doing it any different is wrong as you clearly do. There's about a hundred different more responses I could give you but it's not worth it as I'm sure you feel the same. Whenever K3 is made, if it is, these comments will be irrelevant. All I can say is that the game can work as much the way you want it as the way I want it. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Not involved in this, but I am compelled to respond to this statement with the following: Me 'Well my brother's 28, and your brother's 25, so my brother could beat up your brother.' You 'Nu uh' Me 'ya huh' You 'Well, my dad's 60 and yours is 58, so my dad could beat up your dad' This is a seriously immature rationale to use when trying to justify one's own maturity level. I gave up on this kind of rationale in about 1990. What does this say about my maturity level at age 10 vs. yours at 27?
  11. Yes, and because if you max out INT in character creation instead of leveling it up over time, you reap the most benefit. Plus you need certain skills to finish character dialogue trees, most notably with Kreia and T3, though I think awareness might be used with the wookie and Mira. I think the earliest that I ever got it was around level 20-22, which would be near the end of whatever your second optional planet is. If it can be crafted (I don't recall) I might have gotten it earlier. Disagree. The AC WIS bonus only applies to males, and I seriously think 4 more skill points/level over the twenty-seven or so level gains (108 pts) more than makes up for a +2 AC. Furthermore, most companions will hit regardless of what CHA bonuses you will give them, or the AI will have them walking into a wall, leaving you on your own, thus wasting CHA. Also, the only enemies I remember saving any force-power I ever used on any playthrough (my sith lord was well into the 20s with CHA and WIS), are Vrook, Hssiss, Bomas (once with that stupid beast trick thing), and that ritual beast during the Onderon thing. I can't even recall one of the sith lords saving a force power (Sion was a joke). Guardian/watchman is my least favorite combination. In fact, don't pick guardian at all. Go Sentinel for fighting and Consular for force-using. Sentinel-weaponmaster is much more useful than guardian-watchman.
  12. I HIGHLY recommend giving any character a 16 in INT. I also highly recommend giving a character as much CON as possible too. At 18 CON (natural-no buffs) you can get an implant that ups every attribute by +2, which more than makes up for the points you haven't spent in the other areas. I'm not saying waste the points at the beginning to pay 6 points to get from 16 to 18, just start with 14 and level up con at 4,8,12 and 16. Attributes in order of importance (according to me): INT CON STR DEX WIS CHA Unless you are a consular, in which case: WIS INT CON DEX STR CHA
  13. They don't make you stand at those. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> They did at mine. Where do you have yours i might have to switch. :D <{POST_SNAPBACK}> I don't know if you want to do that, I always feel peer-pressured into praying at the end.
  14. Program the scripted ending instead of doing nothing with it.
  15. You have to lie to most of the people even though you might get LS points for the conversations. Be careful about who you take with you for murders and what you say to them. Think like Palpatine.
  16. 6-8 years before getting serious, huh? Don't be so sure. I'm still saying that at 24.
  17. Do you mean pedantic? If so, I'm lost. Unless you are making some point about Obsidian accidentally misusing/misspelling words (which is what I assume you meant by the pedistrian thing), but I don't remember them making a mistake this confusing on any playthroughs or inventing words. I'm not flaming you here, I'm just curious about the point you are making. As far as spelling concerns, acquiring a writing degree has made things such that I can't really read anything in print that has many grammatical errors or misspellings without wanting to chuck the television/memo/bill/whatever out the nearest window. Typos such as loose/lose are less unnacceptable for me (I guess I'm less irritated when I think I'm reading something by a lazy person than a mor on), so Kotor2 didn't especially give me any strokes.
  18. Damn, I'm a nerd and all my education got me was a bartending gig at a hipster bar. Open letter to hipsters: just because the guitarist taps his toe and the lead singer does a DeNiro Awakenings impression on stage doesn't change the fact that the music is repetitive and boring. If you want to admire musicians for their look and lifestyle instead of their musicianship and songwriting at least start pushing Mayhem or Deicide.
  19. 24, and I've been single since I moved back in with my dad last march. F me.
  20. Not to you specifically, but here goes. A. Stop saying that Revan and the exile should both be in the game. What is the developer supposed to do, let you pick three heads at the beginning of the game? Furthermore, the number of permutations between the storyline variables with the two games makes planning out a storyline including the two jedi/sith impossible. B. Stop asking to have all the old party members back. Writers (designers) HATE working with other peoples' characters. Evidence: in Kotor2, Obsidian basically rewrote Revan. C. Stop speculating on a game that everyone who would know denies the existence of. When someone finally admits this is being made, use the message boards at that developmer's website if you find it necessary to beg for A and B.
  21. LA gave guidelines to be followed. OE implemented some of those poorly. The same thing with the player starting as a Jedi. That was a requirement by LA. However OE circumvented this by taking the PC's Force powers and lightsaber away. Yep, you start off as a Jedi alright, or at least that's what it reads in the character sheet. Sorry, but I'm with Volo on this one. Damn, I'm beginning to sound like I hate the game, when actually there's nothing farther from the truth. The game however, is not without its flaws, and OE is just as responsible for those as LA. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> The most common complaints are about things taken out of the game (including a planet), bugs, crashes, an last act that seems half-finished and 75% unexplainable and poor party AI. Of those things the party AI thing is the only thing that can be put on obsidian, so when people have random non-specific complaints I tend to throw it all on Lucas arts. If your complaints are with balance issues and the random item generator, then those are less frequent complaints which can only be attributed to Obsidian, and I guess, in that case you would be right incriticizing both companies. Overall, the only thing I have trouble living with is the last act. No explanation of why you're alone, no explanation of the MSG, what the hell is Mira doing if she's there? What's Goto's deal? What's with the ship? This stuff's absence is too obvious to be an oversight, it must have been a matter of not having time to do it right. So, in my case, it's all Lucasarts' fault.
  22. Another Kotor 3 thread. I swear some people don't like playing actual games, just thinking about them before they are made. 'I have a cool KOTOR3 idea. How about Revan and the Exile travel through time to the second death star and have to fight the emperor when he gets thrown down that shaft because he could survive the fall and then they'd be the real ones to save the galaxy cause Revan is way better then Darth Vader and he should be the one to kill the emperor. And, ooh, Vader could slip out of his suit when luke's taking it off the station and he could use the force to hold him together like Sion and him, Revan and the Exile could all survive the explosion and end up on the forest moon where they would have to fight each other to the death plus we could kill a bunch of ewoks, wouldn't that be sweet ' ^ This just about sums up the content of just about every post of just about every KOTOR3 thread that I've ever had the displeasure to read.
