Lets see... I have this Mole-Lobster that some comic book artist came up with... How do I make it look deadly and less silly ?... Right, scrap the Marvel universe version and make a Starwarsy version of it, continuity be damned (which few cares about anyway)

Do You Think Obsidian Has Done A Good Job On K2?
Gorth replied to Bastilla_Skywalker's topic in Star Wars: General Discussion
Given the working conditions, they did a great job with what they had. I would have loved to see what they would have done with a three year project instead of a one year project though... -
When you talk to somebody and wonder how you gain influence points...

Crates! Bah! You can keep your cylinders, footlockers and crates - I'll take a good old fashioned wicker bin any day of the week. :D But wicker bins are just so... "quaint" Need good, ortogonal, top opened crates Anyway, for somewhat more serious suggestions. Or should I say, constructive critic ? More use of party members. It was an improvement, but it could be taken even further. Do we even need a protagonist ? Or could it be a party thing like IWD ? I'm thinking the original Star Wars movie here, that didn't really have "a" hero (although Luke got the biggest bodycount with the deathstar), but a group of heroes, Han, Chewbacca, Obi-Wan, The Droids, all contributed in important ways to solve the sidequests. Often without the nominal protagonist present. It's still too easy to play "against" your character. If you are way darkside or lightside, remove the opposing schools of magic. Erhh... I mean the other force powers. Could be something like cetain powers being very light and some very dark. The more you sway to one side, the less you can move across the "middle line" and use powers. I don't want to be a Jedi. I hated it in K1 when I was forced to give up my scoundrel class. At least, I was warned in K2 that I was stuck with being a Jedi. I still hated it when half my traitorus team turned jedi on me though. Freeze dried Insta-Jedi, just add water and stir, yum! The idea was nice, but couldn't it have been made so, that only one of your npcs could be trained as an apprentice ?!? Even if you had three candidates, only allow a jedi to have a single apprentice ? Please ? It might be an engine thing, but those engines as were used in the two games just doesn't work very well with combat... it seems to favour a style where the opponents are either static or just charge headlong towards each other and push buttons. What happened to using the entire area, using area effect weapons, distance, skirmishers, fire support, etc. ? Most of the battles were too easy, simply by moving around a bit and using terrain to your advantage. The poor endboss didn't even put up a fight, I could just find a spot to stand, press throw lightsaber at my leasure and then watch the game ending... I really really miss a bit of a tactical challenge. And no, giving the opponent 10.000 VP and immunity to everything is not a challenge, just silly and a test of patience. Why do party members always stick around ? How about getting rid of some, once they have outlived their usefulness. Drop them off at the local cantina and hope they are there, should you decide you need one of them again. Would make the Ebon Hawk less crowded. Dying... What happened to dying ? Was it Attond who made a funny remark regarding the partymembers ability to stand up again, despite being blasted to pieces ? Again, it might be an engine thing, but the third person perspective just doesn't work very well with teams or party members in a combat situation... how about changing to a more isometric type, slightly distance view of the field when combat occurs and allow "team" commands by area selection of team members. Not unlike real time strategy games, select the two guys to the right and issue instructions, like providing coering fire and grenades, then select the four guys to the left and tell them to fall back while firing or some such... Heck, adobt the Jagged Alliance 2 approach to combat. Meh, could ramble on forever. Way too few good crpgs out there... PS: (slight spoiler)

*Sigh* Lets try again

Are there any female Mandalorians?
Gorth replied to jaguars4ever's topic in Star Wars: General Discussion
Perhaps it's their wives that makes them come up with all the excuses for conquest, just to get away from home " As a Star Wars ignorant, are Mandalorians a culture or an ethnic group ? -
Neat Is it a coincidence, that there is a "Donate Blood" type ad at the bottom of page for safe swoop racing ? :D
-
Ok, so there are things to do there things "to do" there without racing, I'll give it a bit more of a try with dialogues then, thanks
-
Just curious if I'm missing out on something. I'm in my fourth game and like the previous 3, take Nar Shaddaa first after Telos (to get HK-47 and Mira/Hanharr). In one of the "corners" of the main square, there is a swoop garage with people in it, including the biker Bik, lying on the floor, never doing anything. I sort of get the idea from the dialogue in there, that something is foul, shop owner cheating by using droid rider or some such. I hated Swoop racing in K1 and has no intention of starting on it in K2, so question is, am I skipping a sidequest that could be solvable without swooping, or would I have had to do the swoopracing thing to progress any further than the initial dialogue there ?

She was decent in BG2. I didn't like her Nalia part and found her Viconia part to be OK. However, if you get the chance, try playing Vampire Masquerade: Bloodlines, she absolutely rocks as Jeanette and Theresse Voorman Kotor2 was a step down from VMBL for her again though, she can do better.

Actually, it was quite on-topic, and it was not Swedish

Darth Nihilus - You didn't really need subtitles for his few lines to get the message across T3 - A droid that gets both [persuade] and [lie/persuade] in it's dialogue options... Very expressive beeping Kreia - Just too convincing, made the character feel "real" Honourable mention: Visas - It's just that the My life for your life thingy grew pretty old and annoying halfway through the game. I would have loved a lot more lines and not at least, more varied communication with that one.

Finished Today; Great Game, but Ambivalent
Gorth replied to Ginny's topic in Star Wars: General Discussion
Well, Kotor 1&2 are sort of post Exar Kun, aren't they ? -
ja det kan enhver jo komme og sige!! and my Jedi name .. Senvi Den-Kri .. sounds rather retarded actually .. Jeg troede at Rosbjerg var en del af dit rigtige navn. Skulle der ikke vaere et "Ro" eller "Ros" et eller andet sted derinde ?

Gorth replied to Ginny's topic in Star Wars: General Discussion
Actually, I don't think you are supposed to have Jedi romances in Star Wars games. The entire thought of emotions and passions is abhorrent to Jedi and should not be there, if it were to be strictly Star Wars. Even Luke found out in the original movies, that love has no place in a Jedi's heart (that he was considering an incestous relationship with his sister might also have had something to do with it). Romances just aren't a jedi thing -
Shhh!!! They haven't gotten to the part whether NWN is a good game or not yet

useless magic... er... force powers?
Gorth replied to max3r's topic in Star Wars: General Discussion
No you have to enter alone. Ehh, yeah. Forgot that part Damn, finally spotting a use for that feature and you can't drag the droid along -
useless magic... er... force powers?
Gorth replied to max3r's topic in Star Wars: General Discussion
Would that part work with the "meditation" you can learn to do with T3 (which allegedly restores your force points when not in combat) ? -
According to the formula: Sches-Thy Damic No offense, but I think I'll stick to "Gorth". At least I know how to pronounce that.

PC version: why performance so poor?
Gorth replied to PinkJedi's topic in Star Wars: General Discussion
No idea really. Could it have anything to do with being able to run on xbox's, that they had to do some render engine things different (I have no clue whatsoever what the difference would be, just asking) ? -
I liked the Kotor games despite being Star Wars, not because of. I've developed an active dislike for Star Wars over the years, pretty much since somewhere after X-Wing vs. Tie Figher. I was pleasantly surprised when I had let myself be convinced to give the first one a try and it wasn't completely horrible. It really had the odds against it, being Star Wars and made by the company who brought me NWN. Just goes to show, nothing is impossible
-
No idea :"> I don't intent to start game development any time soon

Some of my favourite moments were on Onderon, both the happy, happy merchant standing next to the soldier and the bartender who offered me an ointment for my "condition" (I was very much darkside at that time)

Do you guys get "insider" (for lack of better word) info on the specs for these engines, as in feature lists etc. ? I.e. how would the Unreal 3 engine stack up against the Doom 3 engine for crpg purposes. Bugs, rules systems and design decisions aside, Troikas latest game showed potential although it didn't have any kind of party/henchman support. Do you guys get 'spammed' with sales pitches from these companies, elaborating on the features and ease of use of such engines ? Do you get to make trial runs before deciding on a product ?
