  1. Resistance is futile. You will be assimilated!
  2. Heh, my own observations may be considered flamebait or not. Just work related observations over the last 15-20 years in IT. Men generally appears to be the more creative thinkers and makes great inventors, whereas women seems be better administrators and makes awesome project managers. But then, your mileage may vary depending on what industry you work in
  3. Then it can't have been memorable
  4. Oh no... now I'm stuck with that tune in my head again

  6. IIRC, the deal was they sold the rights to Bethesda to develop and publish three Fallout titles (as in Fallout 3, 4 & 5) with full intellectual control of what they were doing with the franchise in those titles.
  7. A bunch of the ones that were available on the old Interplay website for download (mostly the Fallouts and Torment) and a bunch of "re-implemented" C64 classic game tunes  Nothing else really. Wouldn't mind a VMBL soundtrack though... had a lot of good music.

A social experiment with an expected lifespan of about 300 years. That would give a "Best before" date of about 2096 or such (give or take a few decades), if you want to take note of the results
  9. Age is no excuse, some things are unforgivable! Anoint yourself in virgin oil (young virgins preferably, the older ones have a bitter after taste) and sacrifice a black male hen (correct term for that animal gets eaten by censorship here) and invoke the name of Jobuu. He might forgive you, a Fallout fan wont :D

Standard disclaimer: This is no bashing, just ignorance speaking, but didn't it take quite a while before the one person one vote thing was actually implemented. IIRC black people didn't have a vote or parlamentary representatives pre. 1861 and it was even later before the equal opportunity thing was available to "everybody" ?
  11. [cryptic]One day, you will realise, that what you see are the shadows on the wall...[/cryptic]
  12. That would be "Dirty Old Harry" :D As far as movies goes, somebody already mentioned Bladerunner. Wouldn't mind seeing a Leon II or a Sixth Element either. As for games, a real Master of Orion 3 or a Baldurs Gate 3 (the latter looking more and more like vapourware after that Atari guys accidental slip a long time ago)
  13. I seem to remember some old text book material that suggested, that homosexuality between males, were the highest form of affection, whereas between females were considered the lowest form (men being considered "higher" beings than women). It might of course be all urban legends and I usually question the validity of older school text books. As for the use of epithets in oral poetry, how much is a tool for memorisation and how much is a tool for truly describing aspects of characters ? Are the gentlemen discussing the merits of epithets really discussing things, that the original author never thought about ? But just used ad hoc because it was the way it was done and the way it was intended to be used ? Oh, now that I remember it, was Odysseus really as smart as the author gives him credit for ? I seem to remember me questioning once whether his use of metis was deliberate or a result of adrenaline induced resourcefulness....
  14. Excerpts please ? Now it gets interesting For us non scholars, it's a bit hard to argue whether or not Millman is an authority or not :"> We'll take you word for it (for now)
  15. Tsk tsk tsk... you know Eldar is a pointy eared, magic loving tree hugger ? Btw. Eldar, whatever happened to your paper on Odysseus and Metis/Polymetis ?
  16. One of the advantages/disadvantages of being old is, that it has been a bit of each, depending on what period in life. My first love was encyclopedias (yes, I'm that weird), followed by LotR when I grew up to be a teenager. Later followed by stuff like Dragonlance and belgian comics. Later it was true junkfood like Stephen King and David Eddings, a bit sci-fi (Weiss&Hickman) and more moody stuff like Stephen Donaldson. Eventually you get fed up with all his angst filled writing and go back to easier to digest stuff. Today, I mostly read web pages (and the odd fora) :cat:" Edit: And btw. David Gemmel is awesome
  17. Sigh, Temple of Apshai. Didn't play it until quite a few years after it's initial release. Must have been around 1984-85 http://www.geocities.com/conspiracyprime/e2_epyx.htm One of the great old software houses that are now melancholy inducing memories... PS: I like the part of the piece that describes EA: "Electronic Arts in 1982 (at that time a little start up founded by Trip Hawkins)". Every story has a beginning, it seems
  18. First memorable one would be Gridrunner: http://medwaypvb.com/gnullamasoft/gridrunner/hist.html Back when game developers were exactly that (i.e. the developer guy would make the game, everything included)
  19. I'd love to replay that one, but the iMuse system doesn't seem to work under XP (or rather, it doesn't seem to agree with newer sound hardware), and without music, the game just isn't the same. Not sure about Tie-Fighter, but my X-Wing vs. Tie-Fighter runs very nicely on Windows XP (havent tried it with SP2 though), mouse, sound, everything
  20. Hello. Uh... hello :"> :"> :">
  21. War in Russia (1992/93) By far not the oldest game I play, but the oldest pc game :">
  22. The avatar sizes are pretty fine as is... now if they could just enforce a limit on the size of sigs, pics or no pics... :-"
  23. *mumbles somewhing about swedes and alcohol*... :D
  24. Yeah, first time playing, when Mira has to fight her way to the exit from the squids HQ. She would just use two dozens of all those mines collected previously and trick the guys (who would usually outgun her) to follow her through the new minefields (which didn't get triggered by Mira). Otherwise and overall, I liked K2 better in most regards up to the point where you return to Dantooine. From there the game went downhill. The ending in K1 was bad, but at least it made sense >_ As for the socalled plot twist in K1, saw it coming when your Jedi training started. Man was I pissed when I was forced to give up my scoundrel class. Lost my initial enthusiam for the game there.
