Thats free market ecenomy for you. Explain to him that too many teeth on the market lowers the price Dropped my old ISP for my home connection and ordered a package from a different ISP. They should change connections tomorrow (Monday), so lets see if everything goes smoothly. Since I am moving from ADSL to ADSL2, I needed to buy a new modem. Haven't configured one of those for 2 years.

You mean like playing a xylophone? Sounds interesting (I'm a history addict). Is it personal stories (letters from xyz war) or a historians account of event, or something completely third? Finishing my current batch of "junk food for the brain", paperback books in the Warhammer Fantasy and 40k setting.

Sounds like you are looking for a real world physics simulator Tried The Sims yet? Just kidding. I think what you are looking for is beyond the capabilities of most engines and way beyond what the dusty old Aurora engine can do.

Getting ready to make a dash for the end of Dead Space. I like the game. It isn't "horror" and it isn't a shooter either. I just enjoy running around in ruins and derelict space ships I suppose I hate the control schema though, nothing that any key remapping can fix. In sheer stubborness I bought a Microsoft XBox 360 controller for Windows. Time to fight the enemy on its own territory

Not really Seems like we are all non-native english speakers, something might have gotten lost somewhere in translation/re-translationt. At least, that is what I prefer to think. Otherwise, the screeching noises and clawing at eyes are a bit hard to explain As far as I've been able to pick up, art direction is about "style", whereas engines might put limits on how you can implement a style.

I used to play it on my Commodore Amiga. It was... *sigh* Now I feel like, my eyes get all moist A game I would love to see running on contemporary computers.

Most of my memories from reading The Silmarillion are a bit fuzzy, but it goes something like, Elves are "immortal", as in they are bound to the world until it ends. When that is, only Eru knows. They die and they get spit out again into Arda. When they get weary of the world, they go to Valinor, sort of a retirement home for old souls. Humans on the other hand? Nobody besides Eru knows what happens to them when they die. [geek]Elrond was a half-elf and had to chose his "doom" as did his brother Elros. Elrond chose the doom of the elves, Elros that of humans. For those who saw the movie and wondered what the heck Aragorn was doing in Rivendell and why he was so familiar with elves, he is Elronds nephew, descending from Elros.[/geek] That leaves the question of Hobbitses... are they a variant of humans? Dwarves? No idea, the books don't tell. I think most of my objections to the ending is not in the detail, but in the general "mood" of the story

That depends, though. If you consider that it isn't really three movies at all rather than one big, almost twelve hour long movie, a half hour ending doesn't seem that much of a stretch. Also, and I may lose my nerd credentials by even asking this question, but isn't sailing off the Valinor the same thing as dying? I was pretty convinced Frodo died in that sequence. If it had just been half an hour, it wouldn't be so bad. The ending was more like a couple of hours though. What the movie missed the most was "The Scouring of Shire". Saruman and Grima didn't die at Isengard. After all their heroic fights and deeds, their reward when returning home was a destroyed Shire, an industrial wasteland (like Saruman had done to Isengard previously), hobbits rising up in rebellion, fighting and dying, leaving no room for smiles, much less joy at the end. I think it's a safe to say, that the movie ending was changed a bit from that

I found the extended versions of all three to be an improvement Sure, there were silly things in The Two Towers, the one that springs to mind first and foremost being the "cheap theatricals" of Haldirs elves showing up. Pause... for... dramatic... effect... The scenes of the women and "cute little kids" refugees in the caves was like a badly produced Unicef ad too. The things that bugs me most about the third one (besides suffering from some of the things just mentioned) was the ending. The ending that lasted half the movie mind you, way too drawn out and and way too "Hollywoodesque" (used as a negative) with everybody happy and sailing towards the setting sun. Oscar Bait, I tell ya!

I thought The Two Towers was the best of the lot by far. The first is the best and the 2nd is the least I thought they followed the Star Wars movie patterns, the first was good and got me hooked, the second was awesome and I looked forward to more... then came the third movie and I was horribly disappointed. "Sell out" was the first two words that sprang to mind.

Been to The Glow much recently? Rad-X (two of them) are definitely a must before climbing down the first rope. A Radaway after finishing it is also a handy thing to have. If it isn't the glow... not sure where you can get lethal rad poisoning in Fallout 1?

Time to act completely undignified Wheee!

Which featured a succubus, a clockwork girl, a goat legged girl, a... whatever. A shame they never used the basement for anything. I don't get it why people get so upset over something, I doubt is more than a Tongue-in-cheek joke.

Favourite NWN2 character builds (excluding SoZ and MotB for now)
Gorth replied to Humodour's topic in Computer and Console
*Cough*Unreal 3 engine*Cough* I should play SoZ some day. It's been lying around on my shelf for a long time now. Need to beat Dead Space first though. -
Tsk, tsk, tsk... I don't know of such a virus, but considering that I can reprogram and reflash my bios from Windows without even rebooting it, I can't see why it shouldn't be possible to create virus that makes itself at home there. If your hardware supports overclocking through software, maybe excessive speed settings might hurt your hardware if cooling is insufficient? No idea. These days, I normally malicious web code the greatest threat. As for identifying your motherboard, I think most of them has the make and model number printed on the board itself, although it might be on the "other" side (i.e. taking it out physically might be necessary). Depending on what you have, you might be able to hard reset it or even reflash it from a usb stick. Documentation is usually available on the manufacturers website once you identify it. DN got the right idea about your HD, although you don't need a linux system for it, just make sure you attach it as a secondary drive to a system with an up to date virus/trojan scanner. If it finds nothing, odds are, it might be something else that is causing your system to malfunction. What are the symptoms? No post?

Spoken like a true Ogre Bull I'll defer to your superior experience and expertise on the subject I find a brothel no worse and no better than have, say an arena? People whacking or maiming each other to please the crowds... Gorths rule of thumb, if it feels natural that it is there for the story/setting, it's all good. If it feels artificial because somebody decided it had to be there, even if stuck to the rest of the game with blu-tac, not so good.

Arghh... spoiler tags! Yes, I really should go see the library. Maybe this weekend...

Just sitting and wondering about the etymology of the word handkerchief. The word "hand" sort of implies a smaller, can be operated by hand, version of a kerchief, whatever that is. I could of course look it up with the help of Google, but then again, I started thinking about what people did in the past when needing information. It struck me that I haven't visited a library for ages. I know they had libraries in New Zealand, I am sure this country has them too. Maybe I should look up one some day. I miss reading books (besides the usual paperback junkfood).

Are we talking about the same Witcher game? Can't really say I noticed the loading times

Well, just filling them up doesn't do it, so I guess I need to train them to a minimum level, say Veteran (blue) or something? Sounds like Hitman is going to work overtime in my next game

A question for the JA2 1.13 gurus out there. As far as I can see from the readme's and the configuration file in the 1.13 data folder, it looks like you, the player, should be able to train "roaming" patrols. Is that just me reading it wrong? If not, how do you do it?

Woooo, a convert! Well, this and War in Russia were both made by Gary Grisby (as well as the upcoming War in the East - 2010). I meant Pacific War of course Yeah, started out by playing the old "Flat Top" board game from Avalon Hill. It went downhill from there. As for War in the East... (need a drooling icon), one of my most anticipated games in a long time. Has anybody by any chance played "War plan Orange"? I could use a review (sounds like an interesting game focussing on ship vs. ship action without air forces playing a major role). Otherwise, I'll just sit here and lick the screen when Alan posts his AAR detail while trying to catch up with the game mechanics on my end
