  1. You hear that guys? My excuse is, that English is only my third language, what's yours? Best romance mechanics in a game was KOEI's Djenghis Khan (sp?). If I remember correctly, you needed to court future wives/concubines (successfully) to secure offspring or the game would end at the natural lifespan of your current ruler.
  2. Come to think of it, it might have something to do with me preferring party based adventuring when it comes to crpgs. People gushing over me and telling me how chosen I am makes my tastebuds hurt
  3. Some of my favourite parts of Kotor2 was when I got rid of the exile and could lead parties with other team members Same thing goes for Jagged Alliance 2. I don't always need a "protagonist", just a good story.
  4. I probably did at some point. It was a general observation based on the last few thread pages. The mindset of people into those kind of things fills me with an equal mix of revulsion and fascination, not unlike watching some dead sea creature washed up on the beach. It really is very simple, yet people concoct all kinds of schemes trying to rationalise their actions, whether it be because they need to convince themselves or just feel defensive about it in general when not in the company of likeminded. Ideas range from advanced semanthic exercises to the outright pathetic whining, depending on who you ask, yet the one thing most people adamantly refuse to face is, that they are victims of a very base end primitive human trait: Greed We all have it in various degrees, some less, some more. It's the same thing that turns "nice" little old ladies taking their ugly doglings for a walk in the part into frothing killers in the warehouse, when there is a limited stock on a super sale, running over women and children with their trolleys and killing warehouse employees that aren't fast enough to dodge out of their way. People tend covet things they can't afford (imnsho), so we weigh our options and put the pros and contras of different approaches up against each other. Is there a way I can get what I want? Can I afford it? Whats the catch? When giving in to temptation, we try rationalise our weakness after the fact. Everybody does it, therefore it can't be bad. I didn't find anybody on my doorstep with a spraying arterial bleeding, therefore nobody that I know suffered any consequences. One self deceit more sad than the next. As if it was possible to master greed when we have no culture and no tradition for it in those areas of our lives. Strange that people put so little value on other peoples time and effort really, as I always thought time was indeed the most precious commodity that a human being had to offer and the use of which being one those things more deserving of respect than any simple tangible commodities, for what are those but things bought with the time invested in their procurement. Yet people gladly squander other peoples time, robbing them of the rewards of the time invested in something with barely a thought. Ah well, just a bit rambling in case people wondered what I thought about the subject (typos and all, it is late night here). A grumpy old man with days that have way less than the 32 hours needed to do all the things required of him
  5. And if you dont crash it you'll feel good about yourself. Which is why I'll start with my moms 04' Saturn. It's not like every new driver jumps in a car and crashes it 100% of the time. Not quite 100%, but the risk is highest for young male drivers (I wonder how I survived my own teen years on the road)... You have the odds stacked against you National Highway Traffic Safety Administration numbers A bit of research into the causes Washington Post If you survive your 16th birthday, survival chances starts improving, and after the 25th birthday, you should be about as safe as you can be. No matter what you may think of advice given, whether well meant or as fun, drive carefully
  6. I wonder if anybody actually read the Associated Press story or only see what they want to see? She wasn't being sued for for helping herself to stuff that didn't belong to her, she was being sued for distributing it. Even if it had "only" been for acquiring files that didn't belong to her, it would be ridiculous only sueing people for the actual value, as there is no deterrent in that. By comparison, if the worst that could possibly ever happen to you for shoplifting was that you were sentenced to pay the 0.50$ for the chewing gum or whatever, what would be the point? If they finally got around to sentence people to serve time, either behind bars or doing community service on a regular, frequent basis, would people still have the same cavalier attititude towards what is mine and yours if there was a visible risk involved?
  7. Sometimes you have to give in to indulgence and just chose based on aesthetics. I.e. it looks COOL, so who cares? I wonder if this game could be reskinned to make me look like a WH40k terminator and the necromorphs to look like tyranids/genestealers...
  8. Shipping the game in a little crate shaped box would be a nice touch
  9. ...is there such a thing as an adopted Christian? I'm a follower a Pragmatism. I believe in what gets the job done, hedonism, scepticispm, moral relativism and everything included. Unfortunately, roast boar and mead seems in short supply here Down Under Edit: Happy "summer" Solstice to those living up north.
  10. As MC said, it is not that it is particularly hard, it is just a surprise the first time those moving rings sneak up on you from behind and whack the living out of you. Poor Isaac suddenly becomes a 10 square meter rug on the floor My Second attempt ended with me starting a grappling contest with a necromorph before making it all the way into the wedge. My third attempt only succeeded because I had bought a supply of air cannisters, otherwise I would have suffocated on my way. Of course, I did take my time not wanting to rush headlong into an ignominous death again, hence a bit of waiting (and using precious oxygen) to get the timing right. I think I am falling in love with the Ripper. My tools of preference are the Line Gun, Ripper and Flamer in about that order
  11. Yes (on both accounts). I got caught by surprise the first time, walking cautiously from the elevator shaft to the exit. Nice death animations though Edit: The roguelike is Nethack. Life is short and brutal in Nethack. Poor Sir Gorth made it to dungeon level 4 and died from quaffing an unidentified potion while surrounded by enemies (a potion of paralysis as it turned out).
  12. This documentary continued here...
  13. Start of old thread End of old thread Out of money, my horse has run away and I am hungry. I hope those carrots in my baclpack taste as good as the look...
  14. I am normally a sucker for "unique" versions (i.e. LE, CE, etc.) unless they are outrageously overpriced. I fully expect a CE version to have a Mke Thorton action figure included. Additional wardrobes and companion figures sold separately from SEGA's online store
  15. Why did I have to read this thread?!?
  16. Finally got there and back again in Dead Space. Got outside the big asteroid, placed the stuff there that I was supposed to place there and rushed back inside. Simply "running" and dodging necromorphs instead of messing around with them. Just to be ganged up upon when back inside and killed by a mob that had superior numbers of heads, limbs and tentacles on their side. Where is my save anywhere feature dammit?
  17. Ask the designer of the forum game to include some proper choice and consequences?
  18. That would be cheating, wouldn't it? Sort of like looking up a walkthrough on the internet (no idea what the ranks are, really)
  19. Two months?!? Wedding rings... Had a few days off this week. Could feel my mind starting to crack on the surface, seeing little moving shadows on the walls etc. Got some much needed sleep and a break. Even got to post a little. I should do that more often
  20. I finished IWD not that long ago with a team that included a Fighter/Thief. He did a great job of scouting ahead and being an advanced observer for the fireball flinging mage. I never really used him for the backstabbing part though. There was indeed something about him occasionally being stuck with the hide button unselectable. Small nuisance, but didn't make the game "unplayable" (I wondered if it was a Vista/DirectX thing).
  21. Ford Nucleon
  22. I tried it for all of 30 minutes on a friends xbox, trying out a bit of conversation, fighting and the Mako... wasn't too impressed. It felt like Kotor rehashed, which would have made it a great game in 2003. It did manage to get me searching for classic arcade games, as I remember how fun the original Moon Buggy was
  23. I think that was his point. Those cars don't encourage responsible driving Way back in time, a friend of mines dad sold his Jaguar a few weeks before my friend got his drivers license and bought an "ordinary" car for the very same reason. I don't think my friend ever forgave his dad until several years after, but at least he lives to tell the tale.
  24. I've never seen a "lets play" thread before, so wasn't quite sure what to expect or do I did download and install the latest 1.13 mod though to try it out, so something did come out of it
