  1. Geographically perhaps. But then Turkey can make a similar claim. After all it's armies has also reached far and wide into Europe. Nah, the presence of Turks in Europe is a historic novelty. When did their invasion start, early 1200-1300, reaching the western parts in early 1400? Even then, late 1400, the Ottomans had to contend with other Turkish tribes before establishing themselves as the dominant rulers in the former Byzantine provinces.
  2. Just speculation on my part, but I guess that with the resources and manpower that Russia has, they don't want to play second fiddle in world economics. Especially not with the potentially booming (and crashing?) economies in India and China. Putin isn't stupid, trade and modernisation of infrastructure is a priority.
  3. R00fles! I see it for me... Mass Effect Unleashed! *Groan*
  4. Historically, Russia has always been part of "Europe". A few decades of Iron Curtain will soon be forgotten and real-politics will reassert itself. Denmark has mostly had cordial relations with Russia, not at least during it's 12 major and 20 minor wars with Sweden (Denmark and Sweden holds the world record for most wars fought against each other). Personally I think the world outside Europe is viewing Russia with way more trepidation than Europeans themselves.
  5. Which one? Which Zork or which Mud? If the latter, it was called Deeper Trouble (incredibly, my 'Gorth' login still works after all those years), if the former, no Zork, just the style of text interface and area description.
  6. Hehe, big bad Jedi conned by a scammer. Just imagine a holocron with guy from planet something who used to be the treasurer for the now exiled planetary government, needing help to get a cargohold full of credits off-planet. We just need your account no.
  7. Thanks for the reminder... I bought Velvet Assassin on a sale a long time ago. Never got around to install it. Might give it a try some day. Since I bought the big box of GTA games, I think I'll start with GTA III (somebody shout 'stop' if I should try San Andreas or Vice City first). Hey, I resemble that remark Spent many years, many manhours (and many beers) being part of a team running MUD (before video games got graphics). Sort of MMO Zork Of course, I never had any ambitions of ever working in game development, but it was a fun experience. Ye gods, gamers are whiners when they are subjected to rebalancing and rule changes
  8. Blasto... the first Hanar Spectre!
  9. Hey, seems way better than shopbot Unfortunately the one I'm curious about (the gtx 590 hydro coppper) isn't there. Closest thing I got was Black Tea tech who had the 580 HC2... and the buggers at EVGA doesn't ship outside mainland North America. Been there tried that too.

I guess it's been a few pages since the regularly scheduled reminder to play nice, not unnecessarily aggravate each other, call each other names, goad each other into losing tempers etc? Be nice, it's just a game. Otherwise grab some hockey sticks and meet somewhere.
  11. A rather tangential question, but anyone have any idea where to shop higher end EVGA products on this side of the world?
  12. Gave up on The Witcher 2. Mass Effect 2 effectively killed my interest in corridor shooters and the prologue of TW2 plays like one Dug out Disciples II to supplement my current game of Fallout: New Vegas.
  13. Thread pruned of all unnecessary stuff and locked... Seems like our mrmurphy is either a pirate, a troll or a liar. None of which reflects particularly positively on the persona behind the keyboard. Just for good measure, the thread that this one was intended to be a carbon copy of Steam Forum. Feel free to continue conversation there.
  14. Hmm, isn't it a matter of Handmaiden or Disciple? I think you only get one of them. Do you have Disciple in your party? Edit: I seem to remember it being a gender thing, male exiles get handmaiden and female exiles get disciple. I would check a faq on the internet though and not take my word for it.
  15. I think most of it is in his very first post in this thread The only program I've ever bought that crashed right away because of sound issues was Cyberlink PowerDVD. I paid a fortune for it and was getting increasingly pissed off that it refused to run until I found a hint in a forum that it didn't like having two audio devices on the same computer. Disabling the onboard Realtek soundchip in the bios fixed the problem (since I only ever used my Creative card anyway). Tardis1701F, do you by any chance have other sound cards than the detected Realtek one?
  16. ...and people think DNF is bad
  17. Sounds like Daikatana all over again.
  18. Same here. We call it "winter" Doing the procrastinating part too, enjoying the long weekend (because it's the old lady's birthday tomorrow). It's a bit late in the day, but seriously considering opening up a bottle of red wine and find my painting gear. Still got a lot of Valhallan troopers that needs to get battle ready down at the local wargaming club.
  19. Sounds a bit like disgruntled Jagged Alliance fans, X-Com fans, Fallout fans, Thief fans, Master of Orion fans, etc. There may not be many of them, but they all remember the good old days when they were legion
  20. Empire magnitude is a hard one to convert between. Heck, even Fahrenheit and Celcius are easier. Empire size compared to "the known world", longevity comparison, impact on the modern "western" world, etc.? The Angevin empire caused most of the conflicts between England and France that shaped western Europe throughout the middle ages, the Mughal Empire influenced most of south Asia for several centuries, Alexanders empire brought Greek culture to most of the known world at its time (much of which was adapted by the Romans and passed on the the invading Germanic tribes) etc. As empires go, the English wasn't bad, but like most others it was better if you were English, rather than one of those people who used to live in the areas expanded into. Native Americans, the Gaelic people on the British isles (Welsh, Cornish, Irish and Scottish), the south African Boers, Aborigines, Maori and just about everybody else have different versions of how good it was to live there. The only legacy I've noticed so far is countries where people eat Vegemite and drive in the wrong side of the road
  21. What I want to know is how it took 14 years to squeeze it out. It should have one of the longest and most impressive campaigns of all time. Normally quality is time multiplied by money, but occasionally you run into projects that just seems cursed. No matter how much resources you throw at them, it feels like going in circles. Time and money is burning in a big bonfire, but the quality isn't visible anywhere because the project lacks vision and direction. Been there, felt it on my own body a decade ago
  22. If I should hazard a guess, I would say name recognition and established lore?
  23. Yeah, they never really showed any appreciation for all the good things the Nazis did in occupied Russian territories. Ungrateful bastards
  24. I liked the second video too. At 1:02 you see the same pass from the pilots perspective
  25. Edit: Replaced links with better versions (without horrible music)
