I've probably neglected my speech skill somewhat, as I put points in Energy Weapons. Sort of playing one of the characters I enjoyed in FO and FO2 (the "geek", focusing on energy weapons, science and doctor). I noticed when playing FO3 though, that Doctor is somewhat limited in its usefulness, so I didn't put anything in that and split it between lockpick and repair.

I actually find a couple of the guys (Nathaniel, Alvin and others) have been doing a decent job in keeping the "miscreants" company in the DSIII forum and J.E. Sawyer is still talking to people in the FO3:NV threads the last time I looked

So, pretty much the way I could fix the robot to become the new sheriff (either high skill or less skill and more spare parts) Might give that a try when I get home from work tonight.

I sort of have a "base" in my Novac motel room, but that is probably not the one you are referring to. The powers that be knows that the safe in there is filled up with my collected wasteland junk. Need more survival skill and exotic ingredients to use the bulk of it.

My repair skill is fairly decent now (a natural 55 I think). Where do you find ED-E in Primm? Edit to add: I've got Boone in my little party of two now, but i have a suspicion he is going to be trouble next time i visit a Legion outpost. Can you "park" companions or swap them out when taking new onboard?

No idea what the long term consequences are going to be, but I made the robot the new sheriff of Primm. The disappointment in "deputy" Beagle's voice was worth it. Saw the ghouls off into space (or wherever they are going to impact). Still to find anybody who wants to join my party (I've met Cass and Boone so far)

Yes, my character realized that he was hopelessly outclassed, Gorth was then enlightened. When facing an unsolvable problem, turn around and walk away rather than let it vex you needlessly. Then come back later with a rocket launcher

Lost two hours of my life to a "feature" in FO:NV Saw this innocent looking cave entrance in the distance. Saved my game (check), reloaded my gun (check), take a pair of Med-X for good measure (check) and stuck my head inside, to have it promptly ripped off in a spray of gore. Took the Deathclaw bouncer all of two face shredding moves to make mince of poor Gorth Reloading the auto save and retrying a few time gave the same result, Gorth was abstract wall paint in the time it took to make 180 degree turn and aim. Ah well, no big deal, load the save from a bit away from the entrance and save the cave for later, a level 6 Gorth was not meant to go all melee with a Deathclaw. Well, big surprise, every time I reload that save now, I start surrounded by no less than 4 Deathclaws. I know those buggers weren't there when I saved my game. Talk about a sucky situation My second newest save slot was a few hours old, I'll write it down as experience. Save often, save in many save slots.

Having dumped FO3 (after the lack of pleasure that was 'little lamplight'), I'm now putting in more time in FO:NV. I started a character a while ago and decided to stick with my current build (focus on energy weapons, science and lockpick). No idea if it is going to come back and bite me in the butt later. Started out by roaming around in the relative "safety" of Goodsprings, fighting coyotes and geckos and has since scouted out quite a part of the southwestern corner of the map. Had to backtrack at one point (loading an older save) after getting myself trapped in a hut surrounded by too much radiation and a pair of feral ghoul reavers (I had lured them away and sneaked my way into the hut) lurking outside the front door when exiting. I'll have to come back and rediscover later. Doing a bit of spelunking and walking about the area of Nipton (where I met the legion for the first time). Also found Beru and uncle Owen >_ Besides that, trying to make my mind up if I should start a new game of BG1 (to play a charater through both BG1 and BG2) or start a new game of EU III, conquering the world as the Timurids.

This. The majority of jerks who can't figure out how to switch off a phone at a conference/movie/theater whatever simply feels that rules are for everybody else. If you need to be available 24/7, then you wouldn't be in such a position in the first place (or put it on silent/vibrate).

I think people sometimes forget that there are different ways of being a "real gamer". There are the discerning (snobbish) audience that is enthusiastic about a subset of gaming, whether it be particular franchises, genres or brands. Then there are those who are avid consumers, considering themselves "cool" when they have play whatever is currently "hip" (I'm sure somebody can suggest a more contemporary word for what is currently fashionable, my slang vocabulary may be hopelessly outdated), which is what all their mates play. Preferably with as much gimmicks as possible that they can show off against their mates (achievements, online rankings, etc.). The latter group is where the money is. From the link:

Playing a bit of FO3 and FO3:NV. FO3 sort of went nicely for a while. I even enjoyed the DLC's. Then I ran into place called 'Little Lamplight' and all my positive thoughts about the game so far completely evaporated. I mean, seriously, even tossing a barrage of mini nukes at those little brats had no effect?!? Ah well, I had reached the level cap anyway and probably seen most of what the game had to offer. I'll just drop it and focus on FO:NV instead. Is it just my imagination or do the critters there sometimes run for help? I could have sworn that the geckos and the canines run away if shot at, just to return with their extended families.
